Rotary

Rotary is open to all professional persons.

Rotary is colour and gender

blind and is looking for open-minded caring

people to join. Why join Rotary?

Here are some of the reasons.

Page 5: Rotary Club of Helderberg PO Box 1226, Somerset West 7129 Republic of South Africa.

Friendship:

In an increasingly complex world, Rotary provides one of the

most basic human needs: the need for friendship and fellow-

ship. It is one of the two reasons why Rotary began.

Personal Growth & Development:

Membership in Rotary continues one’s growth and

education in human relations and personal

development.

Leadership Development:

Rotary is an organization of leaders and successful people.

Citizenship in the Community:

Membership in a Rotary club makes one a better

community citizen. The average Rotary club consists

of the most active citizens of any community.

Fun:

Rotary is fun, a lot of fun. Each meeting is fun. The

club projects are fun. Social activities are fun. The

service is fun.

Citizenship in the World:

Every Rotarian wears a pin that says “Rotary

International”. There are few places on the globe

that do not have a Rotary club. Every Rotarian is

welcome, even encouraged, to attend any of the

32.176 clubs in 168 nations worldwide. This means

instant friends in both one’s own community and in

the world community.

The Development of Social Skills:

Rotary develops one’s personality, social skills, and

people skills. Rotary is for people who like people.

The Development of Ethics:

Rotarians practice a 4-Way Test that governs one’s

ethical standards both at home and in the workplace.

Rotarians are expected to be ethical in business and

personal relationships.

The Four Way Test:

Of the things we think, say or do:

1.) Is it the truth? 2.) Is it fair

to all concerned? 3.) Will it build goodwill and better

friendship? 4.) Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

The Future of Rotary Is in Your Hands. In Rotary, each one of us has been assigned a job. Its title is Rotarian. Our duties are to offer relevant service locally and internationally, and to expand our club’s capacity for service by inviting professional and business leaders to become members and promoting a positive image locally. Our job description also calls for each of us to be an example of ethical behaviour in our professional and personal lives, to act as leaders in our club and community, and to fully support Rotary’s highest priority of polio eradication. The job of Rotarian brings immense benefits. We enjoy incomparable fellowship with one another and the great personal satisfaction that comes from serving others. If you believe in Rotary and its power to make a difference in the world, it is time to stand up and commit to doing the best job you can — with all of your mind, your heart, and your soul.

The Opportunity to Serve:

Rotary is a service club. Its business is mankind. Its product

is service. Rotarians provide community service to both local

and international communities. This is perhaps the best

reason for becoming a Rotarian: the chance to do something

for somebody else; to sense the self-fulfillment that comes in

the process. It is richly rewarding.

If you feel you are that kind of person, who enjoys

other people and who wants to improve the

quality of life in our community, why not join Rotary?
