We meet every Tuesday evening near the tip of the Cape Peninsula at The St James Hotel, Main Road, St James, Cape Town Time: 18:30 for 19:00 - Visitors are always most welcome
The 2016-2017 theme of RI President John F. Germ
Rotary Serving Humanity The Raid by Pres Hans Kuhn & the members of the RC of Hout Bay plus the farewell to PP &
PHF Derek Johnston, resulted in a bumper turnout of guests and Rotarians from both clubs, and a
fabulous meeting of
Rotary fellowship,
during which Don, from
the RC of Hout Bay and
Hans, from our own
Club, both gave
informative and
amusing recounts of
Derek and Alex’s
journeys, jobs, house
moves and Rotary
stories all spanning …
let’s just say… ‘A long
time’ & paid tribute to all that he achieved.
We presented a combined certificate to Derek as
he departs Rotary, & takes on his new adventure
into the Presidency of his Probus Club. Don also
presented Alex with dolls from the Carlisle ladies
as a gift to their new grandchild - see below

Just by the way….
Monday 14 thNOVEMBER …..
Get ready for the biggest ‘supermoon’ in nearly six
decades - The biggest “supermoon” since 1948 will
grace the sky on November 14. But what makes it
so super? Well, not much more than the fact that
it’ll be a bit bigger than normal, but that’s
absolutely no reason not to go outside and look at it
anyway. If you miss it, you’ll have to wait to around
November 25, 2034 for another chance.

November 12th has been designated UN Rotary Day Because many Rotary clubs played an essential role in building support for the UN, and in selecting New York City for its Permanent HQ. 70 years later, RI still maintains the highest consultative status with the UN of any NGO. In this capacity, RI and the UN has built a strong and productive partnership including the global eradication of Polio, cultural exchanges, literacy, education, water/sanitation projects, and promotion of peace conferences around the world. By late 1940's, RI was one of the largest "international" organizations in the world and Rotary was already working to diminish the causes of war and aggression. Several delegates at the 1945 San Francisco Conference were also Rotarians and utilized their clubs to develop support for the establishment of the UN: the list included amongst others Jan Smuts and Jan Masaryk the Czech hero. Rotarians contributed to the drafting of the UN Charter, its Preamble and several of its Articles. UNESCO was established in 1946: Rotarians were actively involved and helped write its constitution.

Is this a Joke?? A teacher asked her class how many of them were Donald Trump fans. Not really knowing what a
‘Donald Trump fan’ is, but wanting to be liked by the teacher, all the children raised their hands - except Johnny.
The teacher asked Johnny why he had decided to be different. Johnny said, “Cos I`m not a Donald Trump fan”
The teacher asked, `Why aren`t you a Donald Trump fan Johnny?’ Johnny said, “Because I`m a Democrat” `
The teacher asked him why he`s a Democrat, and Johnny answered “Well, my Mum`s a Democrat and my Dad`s a
Democrat, so I`m a Democrat”. Annoyed by this answer, the teacher asked:
`If your Mum was a moron and your Dad was an idiot, what would that make you?
Johnny replied “A Donald Trump fan”
