Transcript of Ronald Charles Chapman Oils/Pastels Demonstration · Membership Barbara Boswell...
Ron Chapman’s work has been described
as a lyrical or a romantic approach to real-
ism. His favorite media are oil paints and
soft pastels for creating portraits, figures
and western landscapes. In his painting
he strives for a strong light source, some-
times with high value contrasts to project
a special mood or drama into his art. His
purpose is to convey the beauty in every-
day scenes or to capture some of a sitter’s
personality. He wants to show there is
much more in creation than what appears on the surface.
Mr. Chapman studied Design and Fine Arts at Southern Illinois Univer-
sity. After college, he worked for the United States Air Force as an
illustrator and muralist. He became Graphic Services Director for the
Oklahoma State Health Department, supervising the art department and
print shop employees and gradually began doing fine art portraits of
physicians, medical professionals and businessmen in the Oklahoma
City area. About 1985, he opened his own studio/ gallery in northwest
Oklahoma. He is currently President of the Lone Star Pastel Society,
headquartered at the Sunset Art Center in Amarillo, Texas.
Among many awards, Mr. Chapman won the In-
ternational Gold Medal for Master Pastel Artists.
This prestigious award is
given for having won
awards in five or more in-
ternational exhibitions.

At long last, we now have a Hospitality Chair!! Brand-new member, Vanessa Pettit, jumped right in
and we put her to work being in charge of refreshments for our Spring Show reception, as well as
being hostess for our February meeting - which was the first one she attended! Thank you, Vanessa!
The dates for our Studio Tour are Saturday, March 31st & Sunday, April 1st. This year we have 13
artists at 10 different locations. Some of our artists will only be open on Saturday (the maps will
indicate this.) The hours for both days are 1:00-6:00 pm (except for one artist who will close at 5:00.)
We hope to have tickets (maps) available for purchase at our demonstration. As soon as the maps
arrive they will also be available at Multi-Arts Center and Flourishes downtown. I will email Art
Guild members to let you know when the maps arrive. You may also purchase your tickets on the day
of the Tour at Multi-Arts. Plan to make them your first stop on the Tour. Stillwater Art Guild member
and new Director of the Multi-Arts Center, Bill Miller, will be giving tours of the Center, and several
other Art Guild members will have their “studios” set up there. We are excited about having Multi-
Arts participate and work with us on our Studio Tour this year. Also, many thanks to Jason Wallace
for the design and printing of our postcards and maps for the Tour.
If you would be interested in helping Bill Miller with the selling of the tickets to the Tour either the
Saturday or Sunday of the Tour for a few hours between 1:00-6:00, please let me know. My contact
information is on the next page.
We still have the Jerry Yarnell painting available for purchase. Please contact me if you are interested.
See you on the 26th!
