FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Thanks to Jane Fagan and her Outreach
volunteers for giving out over 37 Christmas
Baskets of gifts to those less fortunate. Thanks
to you for your generosity.
Bob Sullivan, our Finance chair, made a
suggestion to me about a month ago. He said,
“Why don’t we put our weekly expenses in the
bulletin?” I said, “Sounds like a good idea to
me!” Starting in January, in Susan’s Financial
Corner, we will have our weekly expenses.
Thank you for your continued support.
Don’t forget our wonderful website for more
information about the Christmas schedule and
the parish: stmarksrcc-shoreham.org
On behalf of Fr. Tom, Deacon Pat, Deacon
Gino, our staff, and myself, I would like to wish
you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and
Blessed New Year.

Thought for the Week
The Eucharist
Babies are alive in their mothers’ wombs from the moment of conception—fully human.
Jesus was alive in the womb of Mary from the moment of her “Fiat”—fully human and fully
divine. Today Jesus is alive in the ‘womb’ of the Church from each moment of Consecration—
truly, bodily and personally Present and alive in the Most Blessed Sacrament; with His Body,
His Blood, His Soul, and His Divinity. (Catholic Online)
Respect Life Prayer
Words from Pope Francis
“Today, then, let us together rejoice in the day of our salvation. As we contemplate the Crib, let us gaze
upon the open arms of Jesus, which show us the merciful embrace of God, as we hear the cries of the
Child who whispers to us: “for family and friends I say,
‘May peace be yours’
(Psalm 122:8)
A Scripture to Ponder..
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son,
that whoever believed in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
(John 3:16)

Just a Christmas Thought…
(These words are from a song from a long time ago from a TV show,
“Christmas Eve on Sesame Street”.
The sentiment is always so appropriate for each of us.)
A Little Christmas Humor
Question: “Mom, can I have a cat for Christmas?
Answer: “No, you’ll have turkey, just like the rest of us.”
Outreach Christmas Thanks
A very heartfelt, “Thank You” to all of our Outreach volunteers who spent so much time sorting and organizing
your gifts, making sure that each gift made it to its destination. In addition, these little” St. Marks Elves” were at the
Parish Center from 7:30 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon to make it a festive day.
And thank you to our parishioners who came to pack the bags after the 9 am Mass. It was amazing how you
moved that, “sea of gifts” on the tables into bags for each family. All the Moms and Dads who came to receive their
gifts were so appreciative of the caring and generous spirit of our St. Mark’s family.
Thanks to the St. Jude Knights of Columbus!
The Knights of Columbus of Rocky Point surprised us with a donation of 16 brand new ski jackets! Thank you so much
to these wonderful men and women for this kind gesture!
“Keep Christmas with you all through the year.
When Christmas is over, save some Christmas cheer.
These precious moments, hold them very dear,
and keep Christmas with— you all through the year.
Christmas means the spirit of giving, peace and joy to you.
The goodness of loving, the gladness of living,
These are Christmas, too.
So, keep Christmas with you all through the year,
When Christmas is over, save some Christmas cheer.
These precious moments, hold them very dear,
And keep Christmas with you all through the year!”

MUSIC NOTES
Happy Fourth Sunday of Advent and Merry Christmas to you all!
Two weeks ago, we had our Christmas Pageant and Concert, presented by a combined number of over 100 members of our Music Ministry, Parish Children, Teen Helpers, and Adults of our parish community. My thanks to Lauren Asmus and Caroline Fellrath for their immense help for always keeping things running smoothly, and most deeply, to Pat Fellrath, our Pageant Director who tirelessly directs and creatively produces our pageant year over year. And our gratitude also goes to Santa for making time in his busy schedule for paying the children a visit!
This weekend is liturgically jam-packed, a liturgical double-header, so to speak. It begins with the 5pm Saturday Mass and Sunday morning Masses as a celebration of the fourth and final Sunday in Advent. Then, later on Sunday evening, it ends with Christmas Eve Masses. This is because, this year, they both fall on the same weekend! Of course, this has kept our Music Ministry even busier than ever. But our members have been very dedicated and, with the exception of the 8:00am, music will be provided by music groups and Cantors at the Masses. What a wonderful gift they are to St. Mark’s – their faithful service to our parish community is incalculable and truly appreciated. I am continually humbled by the generosity of their time, talent, and treasure. As we near the year’s end and, on behalf of Fr. Jeff, Fr. Tom, Deacon Pat, and the entire St. Mark’s staff, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all of our Music Ministry – Children’s Choir, Teen Choir, Contemporary Ensemble, Adult Choir, Cantors, and Vilma Barsauskiene, our accompa-nist. As we continue to celebrate Christmas, I ponder over the Three Wise Men. According to biblical history, these three men held esteemed positions in their communities. They were of noble heritage, and very learned, most especially in the study of heavenly stars. There could have been more than three of such men who visited the newborn Jesus, but, from the amount of gifts - gold, frankincense, and myrrh - mentioned in the Gospel of St. Matthew, the number has been handed down as three. However, regardless the number, they came bearing gifts of such great value to show their profound homage to the newly born King of all Kings. Amidst all those opulent gifts, a reflection came to mind - what can we bring to Jesus? And this song took hold, “In The Bleak Midwinter”, written in 1872 by Christina Rosetti and composed by Gustav Holst in 1906. Another musical rendition was composed by Harold Darke in 1909.
In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan, earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone; Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow; in the bleak midwinter, long ago.
Our God, heaven cannot hold him, nor earth sustain; heaven and earth shall flee away when he comes to reign. In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed, the Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.
Angels and archangels may have gathered there; cherubim and seraphim thronged the air; But his mother only, in her maiden bliss, worshiped the beloved with a kiss.
What can I give him, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb; if I were a Wise Man, I would do my part; Yet what I can, I give him: give my heart. This Christmas and every Christmas, let us bring Jesus the gift of our hearts. A blessed Christmas, a Peaceful New Year, and God’s blessings to you and your family.
Till next time, keep singing,
Carrie Logan
