A Message From Fr. Len
Last Sunday the Diocese of Rockville
Centre stated in the directive that “During
these challenging times, we encourage
everyone to turn to our Lord Jesus Christ
and Blessed Mother in prayer... As individ-
ual and community, it is important that we
act prudently and without panic.”
We indeed pray for Wisdom and Fortitude
to enlighten our mind and heart so that we
act responsibly to prevent the spread of
Corona Virus. It pains you and me to know
that Mass schedules in our Church are
suspended or postponed and other related
activities through Tuesday April 14. As I
mentioned in my homilies last Sunday, I am
saying private Mass to fulfill the Mass
intention obligations daily and praying for
all of you at this time of crisis. Make use
of the Catholic Faith Network (CFN) as
they provide televised and online daily
Masses, let us remain united spiritually. Let
us keep praying for one another and God
bless!
We will keep ourselves updated through the
online bulletin.

Environmental Initiative:
Reverence Life
What can I do to answer the call of Pope Francis to cherish the environment and to
become a better steward of creation?
Establish a Saint Kateri Habitat at home. Three elements are needed from the following
list:
1. food, water, cover, and space for wildlife
2. native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers (such as milkweed and goldenrods for monarch butterflies)
3. vegetable garden or flower gardens
4. clean energy and sustainable practices of
gardening
5. space for prayer
And then a Catholic religious expression such as a statue, cross, or Saint Kateri
Habitat Sign.
To register your Saint Kateri Habitat and to obtain a Saint Kateri Habitat Sign contact the
Saint Kateri Conservation Center at kateri.org and for more information you can contact:
or
Mr. McNamara at: [email protected].

Thought for the Week
In these troubled times, we have to remember that Jesus is in charge of everything,
and He loves to hear the prayers of His children.
We can all benefit from this exercise:
Sit quietly, or go for a walk..
Breathe in Jesus—
Breathe out all our cares, concerns, and worries—one by one.
Fill ourselves with Him, and He will take care of everything else!
The Eucharist
"The Holy Eucharist is like a divine Storehouse filled with every virtue;
God has placed It in the world so that everyone one may draw from It."
(Peter Julian Eymard)
Words from Pope Francis
There is never a reason to lose hope. Jesus says:
“I am with you until the end of the world.”
Respect Life Prayer
Lord Jesus, we are a people of hope.
Help us to persevere in the battle to protect all life from the womb to the tomb.
A Scripture to Ponder……
“God is our refuge and our strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.”
(Psalm 46:1)

A Little Smile…
Heloooo, “Cut-ups”!
(And Super Sewers!)
Our Cut-ups have continued to gather to cut
out patterns, and what is so amazing is that there are
always new ideas about how to make the process
more efficient.
Thanks to all who come together to share
their talents and enthusiasm! These are all simple
tasks, but together they make a difference in the lives
of little boys and girls in Haiti.
We will not be meeting until after April
14th. Keep an eye on the bulletin for when we
resume.
“We can’t all do great things, but we can do small
things with great love.”
(Mother Teresa)
A Little Smile
Just a Thought
“Happiness is having a hand to hold,
finding a heart to heal,
and leaning into tomorrow with love.”

We are always happy to hear from any families concerning the faith formation of
their children and teens Please call, e-mail or visit the Faith Formation Office to
discuss how to begin. Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist oc-
curs over two years, beginning when the children are in first grade. Young people
seeking to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation are invited to join us for their
two years of preparation. We are always happy to welcome back our returning families and to welcome
any newcomers. Upon registering, families will be provided with details concerning our online registra-
tion fee payment. Children continue with each level, growing in their faith and love of the Lord. The
schedule for our Faith Formation classes is very family friendly, offering both afternoon and evening
times for each level. We are always happy to hear from any families who would like to find out more
about our parish offerings which enable the children, teens, parents and grandparents opportunities
to increase their faith and grow closer to the Lord. We offer weekly formation for children and teens,
a Liturgy of the Word for children at our 9:30 Sunday Mass year round, preparation for the sacra-
ments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation, a summer Vacation Bible
Camp, a Youth Group and Youth Masses followed by get-togethers for seventh through twelfth graders,
service opportunities for our young people, discussion and sharing for parents and grandparents and
seasonal events for the entire parish. If your child has any special needs at all we will work with you to
provide the very best learning environment. We are also happy to welcome any families with children
who may have been delayed in receiving the sacraments. You are invited to call or e-mail the Faith For-
mation Office to discover the many ways your family can be involved, or to register your children for
our classes.
We continually seek new volunteers to assist us in doing so. If you feel you may be called to be a Cate-
chist for the children and teens, would like to assist in a class or would be willing to be a door moni-
tor, please contact the Faith Formation Office to discuss the possibility. To keep our building secure
during class times, we especially seek those who may be willing to be door monitors. Another current
need is for volunteers to assist any children with special needs, as they participate in our classes. As-
sistance to Catechists who teach one of our Monday classes would be very much appreciated. We will
keep in our prayers all those who may be considering this opportunity to truly make a difference in
our young people’s lives. We welcome parishioners of every age group to the catechetical ministry. Ini-
tial and ongoing formation, as well as continued support, is provided. All volunteers in any ministries
in our parish must take the VIRTUS training provided throughout the diocese, complete an application,
submit to a background check and when ministering to children or teens remain updated with child
protection bulletins.
With directives from the diocese, and out of concern for all with the current health situation, we are
cancelling our Faith Formation classes until after Easter, as well as any gatherings or meetings. We
will also not be having the Liturgy of the Word for Children at our 9:30 Mass for now. All families
whose children and teens are registered for Faith Formation have received e-mails regarding these
changes.
We thank all who had planned to come to our Lenten Gathering and also the teens who volunteered to
assist. However, we have decided not to have it this year. We look forward to everyone’s participation
next year.

MUSIC NOTES
As I write this article, we are in the grips of the coronavirus. This is indeed a very challenging and trying time and I know everyone is, in varying degrees, rightfully concerned. Our faith teaches us to turn to God when we feel anxious and afraid, so please allow me to share with you this beautiful message from Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles, current president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. He includes a comforting prayer that I ask you to join me in praying.
With the worldwide outbreak of the coronavirus, we are confronted once more with the fragility of our lives, and again we are reminded of our common humanity — that the peoples of this world are our brothers and sisters, that we are all one family under God.
God does not abandon us, he goes with us even now in this time of trial and testing. In this moment, it is important for us to
anchor our hearts in the hope that we have in Jesus Christ. Now is the time to intensify our prayers and sacrifices for the love of God and the love of our neighbor. Let us draw closer to one another in our love for him, and rediscover the things that truly matter in our lives.
United with our Holy Father Pope Francis, let us pray in solidarity for our brothers and sisters here and around the world who
are sick. Let us pray for those who have lost loved ones to this virus. May God console them and grant them peace. We pray also for doctors, nurses, and caregivers, for public health officials and all civic leaders. May God grant them cour-
age and prudence as they seek to respond to this emergency with compassion and in service to the common good. In this time of need, I invite all the faithful to seek together the maternal intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and I share
this prayer with you:
Holy Virgin of Guadalupe,
Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas.
We fly to you today as your beloved children.
We ask you to intercede for us with your Son,
as you did at the wedding in Cana.
Pray for us, loving Mother,
and gain for our nation and world,
and for all our families and loved ones,
the protection of your holy angels,
that we may be spared the worst of this illness.
For those already afflicted,
we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance.
Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful,
wipe away their tears and help them to trust.
In this time of trial and testing,
teach all of us in the Church to love one another and to be patient and kind.
Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.
We come to you with confidence,
knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother,
health of the sick and cause of our joy.
Shelter us under the mantle of your protection,
keep us in the embrace of your arms,
help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen.
March 22, 2020 The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Mark Page 13
(continued from Page 12) In this uncertain time, may the refrain of the song, The Lord Is My Hope, by M.D. Ridge, be a musical backdrop to this fervent prayer:
The Lord is my hope and my glory.
The Lord is the song that I sing: so tender and loving a shepherd, so rooted in justice, a King.
When shadow confuses my vision, when sorrow lays claim to my heart,
God is my refuge, my rock and my shield.
I will rely on the Lord.
Stay safe, stay healthy, and may God’ peace and blessings be with us all.
Till next time, please keep singing,
Carrie Logan

MEDIA STATEMENT
DATE: March 16, 2020 – 1PM EDT
RE: Announcement
FROM: Sean P. Dolan, Director of Communications
Note: This information was sent to all priests by the Offices of the Vicar General and Chancellor.
As of March 15, 2020, the Centers for Disease Control announced that it is recommended that all events involving
50 people or more be suspended or postponed. In an effort to promote health and safety of all people, the Diocese
of Rockville Centre announces the following measures:
1. Beginning Monday, March 16, 2020 at 3:00 PM, all Masses (weekday and weekend), meetings, and non-
essential activities in our parishes are suspended or postponed through Tuesday, April 14, 2020. This will include
all Holy Week and Easter Liturgies. However, these will be televised and available online (see below).
This includes all Confirmations, First Communions, First Confessions, etc. When these events are rescheduled, they
will be announced by local parishes. Funerals and weddings may be permitted if necessary, but should be limited
to immediate family and remain under 50 people in attendance. Baptisms should be postponed unless absolutely
necessary and should observe the same limits.
2. The Catholic Faith Network (CFN) will provide televised and online daily Masses, including Holy Week and Easter
Liturgies, as well as other devotional and spiritual programs. (Optimum channel 29/137, Verizon FiOS TV channel
296, and Spectrum channel 162/471.) CFN is also available on selected cable and satellite systems and through
24/7 live stream at CFNtv.org. You can also watch CFN on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android, or by
downloading the CFN iOS mobile app at the app store by searching “Catholic Faith Network” or “CFN”.
3. Your local parish may also offer live streaming of liturgies. Please check your parish web site for availability.
4. Currently, our Catholic Schools are closed through March 20, 2020, following the measures taken by Nassau
and Suffolk public schools. However, we continue to monitor the situation and will adapt and update as needed.
Our parish Religious Education programs will remain suspended until Tuesday, April 14, 2020. Again, we continue
to monitor the situation and will adapt and update as needed.
5. In an effort to participate in the statewide efforts to halt the spread of the COVID-19 virus, effective on Wednes-
day, March 18, 2020, the administrative offices of the Diocese of Rockville Centre located in Rockville Centre and
Massapequa Park will be closed through Monday, April 13, 2020. Offices are scheduled to reopen on Tuesday,
April 14, 2020, at 8:30 am. These locations will be thoroughly cleaned during closure. All employees will be working
remotely, with business being conducted by email, telephonically or electronically, as best as possible. For the
latest information visit www.drvc.org.
