You hide in the nearest ally where the worst stench you have ever smelled fills your nose The Police canrsquot find you but the stench is too horrible for you to bare You have to come out because you could die from the smell

When you come out the Police catch you

You stand face to face with the Judge in the courtroom scared of the punishment you will face

The Judge looks fiercely at you and sentences you to transportation to Australia

the First Fleet It has 9 ships with 759 convicts and guards some with their families

The conditions are terrible The boats are cramped and filled with rats and cockroaches roaming around There is very little food or water

It takes 6 months to get to Australia but you finally arrive You reach Botany Bay Sydney Australia

Bindi Forde

FIVE MINUTES WITH MRS OrsquoNEILL AKA MISS HAILSTONEhellip

This week I was super excited to head off in the direction of our Early Childhood Area in search of Kindy teacher extraordinaire Mrs OrsquoNeill I donrsquot get down there very often but when I do I am always super jealous that I donrsquot get to teach all of the amazingly smart Kindy and Pre-Primary students that reside in early childhood

Most of us know Mrs OrsquoNeill as Miss Hailstone but she recently married the love of her life James hence the name change to Mrs OrsquoNeill Itrsquos taking me a while to get used to ithellip but it definitely suits her Mrs OrsquoNeill has been teaching at Roebuck Primary School for 8 years in between starting her own family She has spent time teaching Pre-Primary Year 1 was the Maths guru for a while and is now working tirelessly with our first time school attendershellip THE KINDYrsquoS

Mrs OrsquoNeill grew up in Rockingham just south of Perth and in her spare time enjoys sewing cooking and burlesque dancing Sounds like a perfect wife to me

She has wanted to become a teacher from the day her mum went to an interview to become an education assistant Mrs OrsquoNeill told me that she can still see her walking down the hallway with all her display work Mrs OrsquoNeill enjoyed watching her mum prepare exciting things for the students and create awesome environments and that was when she

was in Year 4 When she finished high school Mrs OrsquoNeill nearly did business administration instead but knew her passion was for teaching and nearly 10 years later she is still doing what she LOVES

She believes that the ldquothe best reward of being a teacher is when the student finally lsquogets itrsquo and they have that feeling of accomplishment and successrdquo

Mrs OrsquoNeill has been teaching here for A LONG time and when I asked her why she LOVES working at Roebuck Primary School she said lsquoThe supportive colleagues I am surrounded byrsquo

Mrs OrsquoNeill is not just your average Kindy teacher though I found out so much cool stuff about her that I would never have dreamed

Did you know that she is a bit of a sports person getting in and trying any sport she can

She hashellip

played basketball from the age of 4 playing State basketball for Rockingham until she was about 15 She also played ball for her high school and uni and helped her dad coach junior basketball teams too Not surprising given she is a lovely TALL lady

She is a gun water skier

She represented her high school in discus hurdles high jump and cross country at interschool and at high school won bronze and silver medals for athletics

When Mrs OrsquoNeill lived in Tom Price she played softball netball and basketball

She played softball for Broome at the North West Champs in 2013

Some of Mrs OrsquoNeillrsquos achievements includehellip

She once rolled a car on the road to Karijini National Park in her first year away from home but luckily enough

everyone was okay although the car was totally a write off Wear your seatbelts people

Mrs OrsquoNeill is a daredevil and has tried skydiving She did enjoy it but would never do it again and it made her realise that she would NEVER bungy jump

Mrs OrsquoNeillrsquos greatest accomplishments are having her GORGEOUS boy Travis and marrying her wonderful and supportive partner Ohhhhhhhh HOW SWEET

In the future Mrs OrsquoNeill would like to hellip

Travel Australia more and plans to do more travelling in the NT and Cape York area next year with her soon to be family of 4 and one day would like to make it to Tasmania

To find a good work life balance

Although Mrs OrsquoNeill is famous for her AMAZING costumes during school dress ups carnival days and events and you may think she is super confident she actually struggles with public speaking I know I was shocked too So she would like to gain more confidence whilst speaking in front of large crowds Irsquom sure I could help you with that Mrs OrsquoNeill if you help me with my costumes

Thanks so much for giving us 5 minutes of your time Mrs OrsquoNEILL

Your name is Fred you are a young boy You are poor dirty and pale You are also very hungry so you set off through the dirty streets of London in 1788

You leave London on the 13th May 1788 for new South Wales on

the First Fleet It has 9 ships with 759 convicts and guards some with their families

The conditions are terrible The boats are cramped and filled with rats and cockroaches roaming around There is very little food or water
