Fill in the column as follows: Column Title - March; Decorations - 74.43; Postage - 40.19; Computer Supplies - 72.50; Paper Supplies - 38.82; Food/Beverages - 55.43; Hall Rental- 120.00; Total- 401.37. 7. Apply Your Knowledge--Working with Tabs and a Table

Instructions: Start Word. Open the document, Apply 3-1 Expenses Table Draft, from the Data Files for Students. See the inside back cover of this book for instructions on downloading the Data Files for Students, or contact your instructor for information about accessing the required files. The document is a Word table that you are to edit and format. The revised table is shown in Figure 3-86.

8. Make all columns as wide as their contents (AutoFit Contents). 9. Center the table between the left and right margins of the page. 10. Change the document properties, as specified by your instructor. 11. Click the Office Button and then click Save As. Save the document using the file name, Apply 3-1 Expenses

Extend Your Knowledge--Working with Pictures, Symbols, Borders, and Tables

Instructions: Start Word. Open the document, Extend 3 -1 Club Letter Draft, from the Data Files for Students. See the inside back cover of this book for instructions on downloading the Data Files for Students, or contact your instructor for information on accessing the required files. You will flip the clip art, insert symbols, add a decorative border, add totals to the table, modify the table style, and print mailing labels.

Perform the following tasks:1. Use Help to learn about rotating objects, inserting symbols, working with borders, entering formulas, and

printing mailing labels. 2. Flip the image in the letterhead horizontally so that the fruit faces toward the middle of the letter instead of

toward the margin. 3. In the letterhead, replace the

asterisk characters that separate the address, phone, and e-mail information with a symbol in one of the Wingdings fonts (Figure 3-87).

4. Remove the bottom border in the letterhead. Add a new bottom border that has a color and style different from the default Word border.

5. Add a row to the bottom of the table with a label indicating it contains totals. For each of the columns, use the Formula button on the Layout tab to sum the contents of the column. Write down the formula that Word uses to sum the contents of a column. Add a column to the right of the table with a label indicating it contains totals. For each of the rows, use a formula to sum the row. Write down the formula that Word uses to sum the contents of a row.

6. Change the table style. One at a time, select and deselect each check box in the Table Style Options group. Write down the function of each check box: Header Row, Total Row, Banded Rows, First Column, Last Column, and Banded Columns. Select the check boxes you prefer for the table.

7. Change the document properties, as specified by your instructor. Save the revised document using a new file name and then submit it in the format specified by your instructor.

8. Print a single mailing label for the letter. 9. Print a full page of mailing labels, each containing the address shown in Figure 3-87.

Make It Right--Formatting a Business Letter

Instructions: Start Word. Open the document, Make It Right 3-1 Cover Letter Draft, from the Data Files for Students. See the inside back cover of this book for instructions on downloading the Data Files for Students, or contact your instructor for information on accessing the required files.

The document is a cover letter that is missing elements and formatted incorrectly (Figure 3-88). You are to insert and format clip art in the letterhead, change the color of the text and graphic, change the letter style from block to modified block, and format the table. 1. Locate and insert an appropriate clip art image. If you have access to the Internet, use one from the Web.

Resize the graphic, if necessary. 2. Change the color of

the text in the letterhead. Recolor the graphic to match the color of the text. Format one color in the graphic as transparent.

3. The letter currently is the block letter style. It should be the modified block letter style. Format the appropriate paragraphs by setting custom tab stops and then positioning those paragraphs at the tab stops. Be sure to position the insertion point in the paragraph before setting the tab stop.

4. Center the table. Apply a table style of your choice. Resize the table columns to fit the contents of the cells.

5. Change the document properties, as specified by your instructor. Save the revised document using a new file name and then submit it in the format specified by your instructor.

Lab 1: Creating a Cover Letter with a Table

Problem: You are a student at Norson Central College. Graduation is approaching quickly and you would like a part-time job while furthering your studies. Thus, you prepare the cover letter shown in Figure 3-89.

Perform the following tasks:1. Create the letterhead shown at the top of Figure 3-89 on the previous page. Remove the hyperlink format

from the e-mail address. Save the letterhead with the file name, Lab 3-1 Owens Letterhead. 2. Create the letter shown in Figure 3-89. Set a tab stop at the 3.5" mark on the ruler for the date line,

complimentary close, and signature block. Insert the current date. After entering the inside address, create a building block for Pinehurst Athletic Center and insert the building block whenever you have to enter the company name. Insert non breaking space characters in the newspaper name. Insert and center the table. Format the table using the Medium Grid 3 - Accent 1 table style. Select only the First Column check box in the Table Style Options group. Adjust the column widths so that they are as wide as the contents of the cells. Bullet the list as you type it.

3. Check the spelling of the letter. Change the document properties, as specified by your instructor. Save the letter with Lab 3-1 Owens Cover Letter as the file name.

4. View and print the cover letter from within print preview. 5. Address and print an envelope and a mailing label using the inside and return addresses in the cover letter.

Lab 2: Creating a Resume from a Template

Problem: You are a nursing student at Ferrell College. As graduation is approaching quickly, you prepare the resume shown in Figure 3-90 using one of Word's resume templates.

Perform the following tasks:1. Use the Equity Resume template to create a resume. 2. Personalize the resume as shown in Figure 3-90. Use your own name and address information when you

personalize the resume. If necessary, drag the blue-dotted column border to the right of the name to the right, to make room for a name with a larger font size. Insert the Experience Subsection building block, so that you can enter the second job. Indent the text in the Experience section as shown. Enter line break characters between the job responsibility lines. Adjust line spacing in the Experience section, so that it matches Figure 3-90. Change the title, Skills, to the word, Activities.

3. Change the theme fonts to Aspect.

4. Check the spelling of the resume. Change the document properties, as specified by your instructor. Save the resume with Lab 3-2 Marsh Resume as the file name.

5. View and print the resume from within print preview.

Lab 3: Creating a Letter

Problem: You are a president of the Parents Educational Organization for the local high school. The organization currently is taking nominations for outstanding teacher award and you write thank-you letters to nominators, also asking them for donations.

Instructions: Prepare the letter shown in Figure 3-91. Follow the guidelines in the modified semi-block letter style. Use proper spacing between elements of the letter. Check the spelling of the letter. Change the document properties, as specified by your instructor. Save the letter with Lab 3 - 3 Ling Letter as the file name.
