Get actively involved in RICS matrics as much as you like.

When you become a member of RICS matrics it’s up to you how involved you want to become. Some members come occasionally to some of the many social events organised every year. Others get very involved and become committee members, network with others, become mentors to students and organise many of the various initiatives that RICS matrics plays a part in. There’s no pressure either way. RICS matrics membership can mean whatever you want it to mean to you i.e participating locally, regionally, nationally and/or internationally.

Being part of a larger global organisation can seriously improve your career prospects.

Karen Wilson, 28, Consultancy Surveyor, Transport for London

“RICS matrics provided a wonderful opportunity for me to network with other surveyors of varying ages and experience, and develop new friendships in the area.

Through RICS matrics I have travelled to various places including, Vienna, New York, Brighton, Harrogate, Bristol and Oxford to name but a few.”

Justin Armstrong, 30, Director Envoy Property Management in Cornwall

“RICS matrics has given me the opportunity to lead a valuable and funorganisation. It has also made me a wealth of lifelong friends, found me a ‘Best man’ at my wedding and given me a lot of personal development -believe it or not!” Fiona Irving, 26, Final Year Student in

Property Management and Valuation

“RICS matrics members visit students at university, including Glasgow Caledonian to talk to students about the benefits of RICS membership and careers in surveying. This allows students like myself to ask them questions and get advice on how to find graduate jobs and get the best possible start to our careers.”

The Role of RICS matricsAs an integrated part of the organisation RICS matrics exists to provide an environment in which young chartered surveyors, trainees and students can network and enjoy the benefits of belonging to the full.

Involvement with RICS matrics gives the opportunity to undertake new challenges, meet new people and make a positive contribution to an active organisation in the following ways:

• Promote the RICS and its activities, thereby raising the profile of the organisation and encouraging more young chartered surveyors, trainees and students to get involved. RICS matrics members are best placed as grass roots volunteers to support careers activities.

• Provide a respected and active platform for younger members to voice their professional concerns, to progress their initiatives and to keep members informed about business and professional issues.

• Create effective networking opportunities.

It is key for career development to swap information, ideas and experiences mainly within a social setting but also across businesses and professions.

• Nurture and mentor those new to the profession, APC and ATC candidates through local APC Doctor scheme, self-help groups and training events.

RICS matrics is about shaping the future of the profession providing support and career development opportunities in a fun proactive way.

RICS matrics is there to help you realise your true potential – throughout the formative years of your career.

You automatically become a member of RICS matrics at the same time you obtain RICS membership. When you become an RICS matrics member you’ll quickly discover that we provide an incomparable level of support. We help members not just throughout their early career – but right up until the age of 35. We help, support, advise and bring together students who are studying to become surveyors, graduates who are seeking employment, trainee surveyors in full time employment and fully qualified surveyors – some of whom are already partners in a practice. Inside is a simple diagram to demonstrate the depth and length of our support throughout your career.

“A flexible, responsive, network for students and trainee surveyors (regardless of age) and chartered surveyors under 35”

RICS matrics was created to look after the interests of members entering or not long in the profession of surveying.

John Williams, 37, Director Aston Rose in London

“What did RICS matrics ever do for me? Well, apart from setting up Aston Rose with three other RICS matrics members; providing an invaluable network of contacts around the world; making firm and lasting friendships, which now mean major ski trips each year; and, having fun, absolutely nothing!”
