NEW AND ADAPTED FUNDING SCHEMES UNDERPIN FCT’S RESEARCH AND INNOVATION STRATEGY

Tailor funding schemes to the current status of Portugal’s research base

Boost quality and international competitiveness(as measured by scientific, economic and social impact (quality) rather than quantitative indicators)

Balance funding across the different strands of FCT activity, in order to ensure the harmonious growth of the Portuguese research base

Invest in talented researchers, in breakthrough research projects, in well-equipped and forward-looking research units, in strong international relations, while boosting knowledge transfer (to the economy and society).

TRAINEESHIPS AT CERN, ESA AND ESO (MÁX. 2 YEARS)

Goal of the programme*: to develop an on-the-job training plan in strategic technological domains that will lead to the increase in the competitiveness of Portuguese companies;

Since its creation, more than 250 engineers participated.

50/50 (statistically) return to Portugal, versus those that stay in the European market, in academia and as staff members at the organizations.

*The evaluation board is composed by senior researchers and senior representatives of referenced multinational Portuguese companies
