INDIA’S SINGING STAR – LV REVANTH

For someone who has had no formal training in music and faces the linguistic barrier of not knowing Hindi, winning the Indian Idol title on national television is proof that passion and hard work can achieve just about anything. LV Revanth Kumar, the Vizag boy who was crowned the Indian Idol shares his story with Yo! Vizag.

Driven by PassionBorn and brought up in Srikakulam, Revnath’s family shifted to Vizag when he was still studying in school. Growing up in a typical traditional joint family, LV Revanth Kumar was driven by music. In spite of having no formal training as a child or no musical background in his family, he took part in singing competitions right since his fourth form.

“I do not have a musical background, and am not a trained classical singer. In primary school, we were taught the Vedas and the Bhagavat Gita. In my opinion, the advantages in my favour were my voice, family backing, good fortune, and, I believe, chanting of the Vedas that I did in my early school days. My ‘music school’ was the many competitions that I took part in. Irrespective of whether I won a prize or not, I always participated.”

“Wherever I went, I let my singing and my voice prove my worth.”

Keen to prove his mettle, he took part in television reality shows like Sapta Swaralu and Super Singer. Being the winner of Super Singer opened avenues for him in the southern cine world. “The first song I sang as a playback singer was for the movie Maryada Ramana which was followed by Badrinath, Rajanna and many more. MM Keervani Garu offered me many opportunities.”

He attended Intermediate at the Dr VS Krishna College. That is when he seriously committed himself to making a career in music; he took part in many competitions including State-level singing contests. Acknowledging that his family was his strength he says, “Throughout, my family was very supportive. They had once asked me whether I wanted to sing or study; ‘sing’ I had answered. And accordingly, they encouraged me to pursue my dream. In fact, when the dates of an intermediate exam paper to be written in Vizag clashed with a singing competition in Chennai, the elders in my family advised me to sing rather than write the exam. Their view was that exams could be written even next year. If I am a singing success today, it is all thanks to the support I received from them.”

But childhood was not a cakewalk for the young singer, “I lost my father even before I was born”, he reveals. Though he never knew his father, he was brought up in a large joint family of six maternal uncles, maternal grandparents, his mother and elder brother. “No matter what I achieve, I can never forget my roots. I know the value of money, I know the value of a person and I know the value of hard-work”, says the National-level winner.

The Rockstar TagEven before he wowed the audiences on the show, LV Revanth had garnered quite a fan-base as a singer and performer. Impressed by his style on stage, he was often called a ‘Rockstar’. Explaining the tag he says, “Singing and performing are two different aspects. And, singing and performing at the same time during live shows, is quite difficult. I took it up as a challenge; as I concentrated on singing well, I also worked on my presentation, and developed my own style of performing on stage.”

“My performance style was so well received, that people started calling me a Rockstar.”

The Indian Idol GambitCiting his reasons for entering the Indian Idol competition he says, “After a lot of struggle and requests to dozens of people, I managed to get singing gigs in Hyderabad and south cinema, but I was frustrated by the lack of opportunities in the South.”

“I realised if I wanted to make it big, I needed to make my voice heard in Bollywood.”

Page 4: Revanth Article 02 · mother and elder brother. “No matter what I achieve, I can never forget my roots. I know the value of money, I know the value of a person and I know the value

Hence, I resolved to learn singing equally well in Hindi, and make a mark on the National stage. That’s when I decided to participate in the Indian Idol competition.”

His main drawback was his lack of fluency in Hindi, but he was determined to at least give it a shot. “My reasoning was that if I succeed, then there would be no turning back. And if I did not win, at least I would have reached a certain level which would open more opportunities for me. Ironically, when people tried to dissuade me saying that I couldn’t even understand Hindi, I became all the more determined; it was that anger which actually propelled me forward and prove all my detractors wrong. I wanted to gain a foothold in Bollywood, even if it meant risking it all”, he says describing the turmoil he felt before he flew to Mumbai.

Truly accepting that music transcends all, he says, “Since childhood I have always believed that for music there is no language; for language, there is no barrier. You do not need to know the language to sing in that language. In fact, during the auditions itself I announced that I do not know Hindi, but I was aiming for Bollywood! It was that positivity which impressed the selection team. I did have doubts about my ability to sing in Hindi, but once I would take the mike in my hand, all those doubts would just melt away and my voice would take over.”

The ExperienceBefore leaving for Mumbai he candidly says that his mother advised him to be unassuming. “Do not go there as a mini-celebrity, a south-Indian playback singer or a Rockstar; leave all your attitudes in Hyderabad and leave for Mumbai as a simple contestant, you will definitely get selected, she had advised me. Accordingly, only after I passed the selection stage did I reveal that I was a playback singer. Even then, the whole team there gave me a lot of support and help. The music masters, Anant and Anand Sharma too were very helpful and taught me very well, they even helped me with diction, ensuring that every song was perfect. As I crossed each stage and rose to the next level, I always wondered, was my singing really good or was it my performance style that was helping me advance? I was assailed with doubts regarding my singing at every stage, and tried to improve my singing with each song.”

“In fact, the supposed ‘style’ that many people appreciated was never an act; it’s the way I am. It is my identity and the way I perform.”

He goes on to describe the apprehension he had before the competition; “As a south-based singer taking part in a national level singing competition, I made sure not to miss any opportunity to develop myself right from day one. Before every song, I would tell myself that ‘This was my first and last performance, I have to rock!’ and after every round, I would target just the next level. Anu Malik and Farah Khan gave me a lot of moral support and encouraged me throughout the competition. Just as Lord Hanuman, my favourite deity, becomes better every time he is encouraged, I believe I could also do better every time they boosted my morale. But what I truly cherished about the show, was the fact that since the first day till the finals, I had the opportunity to dance and interact with every celebrity that came on the show.”

The winStill getting used to being the National-level Indian Idol, LV Revanth confesses that the highpoint was when his mother and brother were recognised and acknowledged. Attributing his win to many factors he articulates, “I believe it was my apprehension, humility and sincerity that kept me grounded, and helped me in the end. Armed with my faulty language skills, my style of presentation, my performance and my singing, I am happy that I could win over the judges and the audience alike. Though in my personal opinion, all those who reached the finals were winners. If I won today, it is all thanks to the votes I received, my hard work, the support and blessings I received from my family… and above all, the media.”

Grateful to Many!Messages from the many celebrities, politicians and dignitaries, both from Andhra and Telangana was very gratifying for the Telugu lad. Expressing his gratitude, he says, “People from different aspects of society encouraged me. I am very grateful to each and every one who supported me, and specially I want to express my gratitude to the many music directors from the Telugu cine industry, who gave me opportunities and helped me improve my singing. I owe a lot to Shri M. M. Keeravani as he moulded me and taught me a great deal. I am also thankful to Ashirwad Luke from Vizag for his tips and advice whenever I visited his studios for recordings.”

Page 5: Revanth Article 02 · mother and elder brother. “No matter what I achieve, I can never forget my roots. I know the value of money, I know the value of a person and I know the value

Nostalgic about VizagWhen asked about Vizag, his voice raised a notch higher with excitement, “I love Visakhapatnam, I love my Vizag. Presently my mother and brother are living with me in Hyderabad, but all my relatives and grandparents are still in Vizag, so I do keep visiting the city. The city is full of sweet memories; it is where my singing actually took off. I also sang in many temples in the city,” he professed. Calling the city an artist’s haven, he says that the people in Vizag are very encouraging. His future plans regarding the city include starting a musical school here.

Bollywood and future aspirationsCurrently inundated with offers, even from Bollywood, he says that even during the show he was invited to sing for television show, ‘Sabse Bada Kalakar’. Keeping in mind the struggles he faced, he intends to assist others achieve their musical dreams via an easier path. Towards this, he plans to set up something along the lines of a music academy in the future. He strongly believes in returning to society, and confesses that he has always donated to charities, and that is something he would always continue to do. For instance, 10% of the prize money that he received is earmarked for charity, he reveals. Speaking about the future he simply says, “My only hope after all this is that I do not ever forget my roots, my struggles and my hard work. I want to remain grounded.”

“My only desire now is to be the same Rockstar Revanth till my last breath. This is just the beginning.”

HYDERABAD: They say successful people are those who build their houses with the stones thrown towards him. And the story of LV Revanth, who has won the ninth season of the Indian Idol, probably the most coveted title every budding singer of this country aspire for.

Having won million hearts in both the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana through his song Manohari in the Baahubali: The Beginning, the 26-year-old from Mehdipatnam in Hyderabad had hatched a dream of rocking the Bollywood. “What could have been a better platform than the Indian Idol? Language barrier was the biggest challenge for me,” says Revanth.

The journey was not easy. “Ahead of the competition, many people discouraged me saying that grasping Hindi in a short time was a hard nut to crack. Even I was taunted by many. They found it funny when I spoke in Hindi. Now, I am thankful to the ones who had discouraged me. Otherwise, I would have never come stronger,” says Revanth.

Asked when he realised that music was his passion, Revanth smiles. “I have been singing since I was in Class III. During my school and college, I do not remember giving any competition a miss. I lost my father at a very early age. During my intermediate, I felt guilty to ask pocket money from my mother. I then started working with catering companies,” reminisces Revanth.

A native of Srikakulam district, Revanth studied intermediate in VS Krishna College in Vizag. He was brought up by his mother and grandparents. Despite having a strong inclination for music, financial constraints never allowed him take a formal training in music.

“I am not a trained singer. I have learnt from my life experiences. I was never regular to music classes, as I couldn’t afford the fee. One day, I decided to discontinue my Intermediate studies and take a train to Hyderabad. I struggled hard to get a chance to sing in Telugu movies. I participated in various competitions and simultaneously tried to project myself in television.

Finally, my toil for 10 years has paid off,” says Revanth. Before entering the Indian Idol, Revanth was already famous in the Telugu land. He sang in many films including Maryada Ramanna, Badrinath, Mukunda, Prema Katha Chitram. His song in Baahubali evoked a rave response.

“Competing for Indian Idol title was tough. But, I have always a believer of hard work. When the jury members compared me with Arijit Singh, it gave me a lot of confidence,” says Revanth who also lent his voice for the title track for the reality show ‘Sabse Bada Kalakar’.

But, the Indian Idol considers him a Vizagite. “I can proudly say I am from Vizag. My musical journey started here, being a student of the Veda Pathsala. If the Tollywood comes to the city, I will be the first to settle down here. Many Bollywood singers sing for Tollywood, but a few from here go to Mumbai. I want to break the jinx. Given a chance, I wish to compete for American Idol,” Revanth signs off.

INDIAN IDOL WINNER REVANTH HAS BOLLYWOOD DREAMSSinger talks about his early struggles and what it took to win the music competition

Published: 13:20, April 11, 2017

“I will rock Bollywood very soon,” Indian Idol 9 winner Revanth says.

That may sound pompous, but the confidence seems genuine for a singer who has had to struggle through many adversities.

When he was trying to find a foothold as a singer in the Telugu film industry, he realised music directors in South India were more interested in hiring people who sang in other languages, especially those from Bollywood, the Mumbai-based Hindi film industry.

This “envy, pain and bitterness” put him on a path seeking instant recognition, Revanth tells Gulf News tabloid! in an exclusive interview.

“When someone says I cannot do something, I take it as a challenge at least to try it. So these four months of risk [at Indian Idol] has borne fruit,” the singer says.

He says he got a mixed response for his decision to try his luck on the Indian reality show. “While my mother and other family members supported me, some in the singing fraternity ridiculed and derided me saying I would come back insulted,” he adds.“I went ahead, but was a bit apprehensive. Thought I would feel myself lucky even if I made it to the Top 14 so... I would still get singing offers down South,” Revanth says.

He has lent his voice to about 200 songs, mainly in the chorus and by playing second fiddle. However, he was noticed for his songs in Baahubali: The Beginning, he says.

“As I don’t have a music background, I grabbed whatever offer came my way, without giving it a thought whether it was small or big. I dedicated all my time to music,” Revanth says recounting his days of struggle.

“Since I had been through worse during my growing up years, not being able to do what I wanted to due to financial constraints, I persisted amid rejection by several music directors,” he reminisces.

He got his first break in the film Vesavi Selavulu, but he considers Maryada Ramanna to be his first film as a singer. But Baahubali, which released in 2015, proved a turning point for him. “The following year I sang Andam Hindolam along with Chitra madam in Supreme,” he says proudly of the opportunity to sing with the multi-lingual star.

Revanth’s talent was recognised with his songs in several movies including Badrinath, Rajanna, Dammu, Premakatha Chitram, Shirdi Saibaba, Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayy and Mukund, some of which were duets with Shreya Ghoshal.

“I will always be grateful to music directors MM Keeravani, Mani Sharma, Chakri, Tamann, Devisri Prasad, RP Patnaik, Anup Rubens and Ramachari. I got a chance to work with all of them either by way of recordings or on live shows,” Revanth says.

Revanth, who hails from Srikakulam and grew up in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, lost his father even before he was born. “My mother was eight months pregnant when my dad died in an accident,” he says.

He says he liked to listen to songs from his childhood and sing. “My mother always supported me in pursuing my passion,” Revanth says.

The singer participated in school competitions where he was encouraged by his teachers. “I was not particular about winning, I was more enthusiastic about participating,” he adds.

Revanth moved to Hyderabad after school to pursue his interest in music. He regrets not having learnt any classical music due to his circumstances.

He tried his luck in Telugu reality shows Saptaswaralu, Super Singer 5 and Super Singer 7 without much success. But the team he mentored won the Super Singer 8 award.

“After making a mark for myself on Super Singer I have performed extensively overseas, including the Gulf [countries], Australia and UK. I may have performed more than 25 times in the US alone,” he says.

Page 9: Revanth Article 02 · mother and elder brother. “No matter what I achieve, I can never forget my roots. I know the value of money, I know the value of a person and I know the value

“At this point I was reflecting on what I was doing as it is said a singer’s career span is just five or six years these days as new singers keep joining the industry. Though everyone started praising me as a rock star, I didn’t let that go to my head and wanted to do something which would give me a firm foothold as a playback singer. That’s when I decided to give it a try at Indian Idol 9,” Revanth says.

In Mumbai, he was able to taste the success that had eluded him in the Telugu industry. Despite not knowing Hindi well, he sang Bollywood songs with ease throughout the season. “Though I don’t speak or understand much Hindi, I was confident that I had the skill and courage to perform on any platform. At the back of my mind I had a fear that what would happen to my career in the Telugu film industry if I failed at [the] Indian Idol competition.”

But his performance ensured success, defeating Hyderabad-based Rohit and Punjab’s Khusa Baksh in the finale.

Asked about how he felt after reaching the final round, Revanth said: “I thought I had never won any singing contest, what if I win Indian Idol? I was also weighing what others with training in music have and what I lack, but my voice is my advantage. I have the confidence of performing anywhere. I may be scared of going on stage, but once I am in here nobody can stop me. I always go ahead thinking this is my first and last performance and through God’s grace I could move on.”

“In the beginning, the judges thought my lack of Hindi is a disadvantage. On the contrary, I thought not knowing the language was my strength.

“But later, I started getting super support from the judges Anu Malik, Farah [Khan], Sonu Nigam, anchors and the crew members.

“They egged me on saying language shouldn’t [be] a barrier and that since I took the bold step of competing in Indian Idol I should not look back. I started getting compliments... but I [kept] cool and worked my way through winning the hearts of all,” he says.

“Winning such a competition is quite tough because up to Top 8 it is in judges’ hand, after that it is 50:50 and after Top 3 it entirely depends on viewers’ voting. I thought I would have a slim chance with North Indians’ vote for Hindi-speaking contestants. Of course, I thought Telugu people would vote for me. But I got tremendous support from all over the country and not just from the South,” he adds.

“What gave me hope was that Arjit Singh got eliminated at the Top 8 or Top 6 round yet he has become popular as a playback singer. On the contrary, many winners have failed to make it big as singers. That gave me hope that exposure as an Indian Idol contestant is enough if one had talent.”On receiving the trophy from Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Revant said: “More than winning the title, I was thrilled to have received it from Sachin because I have only seen him play on TV. Here I was seeing him [in the] flesh handing over the trophy to me. My mother who has not gone beyond the borders of the Telugu states has for the first time stepped onto the stage as I was being honoured.”

“My mother always advises me not to forget my roots and to stay grounded if I have to succeed in life. Coincidentally Sachin also advised me the same, which he himself got from his father.”

Revanth says he doesn’t want to rest on his laurels. “I sincerely believe this is my beginning to do much better as a singer, and I want to make a mark myself in Bollywood as well with better grip on [Hindi] language.”

He has already landed a singing assignment for the reality show Sabse Bada Kalakar and Anu Malik, Farah Khan and Vishal Dadlani have offered to work with him.

He says he received encouragement from all the actors who came on the show. “Alia Bhatt, Kangana Raut, Shahid Kapur, Varun Dhavan, Sonakshi Sinha, Kapil Sharma, Shilpa Shetty, Vidya Balan and Vishal Shekar all encouraged me saying I have a good voice which is suitable for all leading heroes.”

“Singing on the stage itself is difficult but here I was also dancing with the stars,” he said about the celebrities

“People ask me where I would settle down after winning Indian Idol. To them I would like to say I will settle down where ever there is music,” he says.

With titles of ‘rock star’ and ‘hero’ thrown at him, does he nurse an ambition to become an actor?

“I got some acting offers in the past, too. But I want to become a hero in singing and not in acting, as there’s so much to achieve as a singer,” Revanth says.

Indian Idol 9: LV Revanth is the winner of the reality show

Sony Entertainment Television's singing reality show Indian Idol 9 had its grand finale tonight (April 2) with some spectacular performances. After giving tough competition to others for three long months, LV Revanth emerged as the winner of the show. The singer was pitted against PVNS Rohit and Khuda Baksh, but Revanth managed to walk away with the trophy and a prize money of Rs 25 lakh. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar handed over the trophy to Revanth. Judges Anu Malik, Farah Khan and Sonu Nigam were also present on the finale night.

Revanth has had a terrific journey on the show. He thrived through the semi final, when he was put to test against Malavika Sundar, and emerged victorious. He sung 'Moh Moh Ke Dhaage' from "Dum Laga Ke Haisha" for the semi finals, and his soothing voice helped him win accolades from the judges, hence, saving him from being eliminated.

Revanth, who hails from Visakhapatanam, is not a new comer to the world of singing as he has lent his voice to some of the biggest projects including Baahubali. His song Manohari also made him win the IIFA Utsavam award. Giving up on many Telugu projects, the singer participated in the reality show apprehensive of his Hindi diction. He took the biggest risk of his life and put his career at stake for this show. Nevertheless, his hard work and perseverance paid off as he became Anu Malik's favourite contestant, who had declared him his Indian Idol.

Born in Vizag, Revanth lost his father before his birth and was raised by his mother. He shared his story on the show and revealed how he pursued his dream by taking up a job at PCO booths and catering companies. All this helped him fund his education in music.

His performance has also brought him recognition among Bollywood stars. Anushka Sharma and Sonakshi Sinha consider him a star and are in awe of his singing. After making a mark in the South film industry, he now wants to earn fame in Bollywood as playback singer. Though he cannot speak Hindi, he didn't let this become a hindrance in his performances.

Revanth's dressing sense and style makes him look no less than a South Indian star. His gelled hair tied up in a pony tail, leather jacket and funky shoes are a few things that are always intact.

Some of the songs sung by Revanth on the show were Malhari, Aadat Se Majboor, Masakali, Sultan and Jeena Jeena

Baahubali Fame Singer LV Revanth Wins Indian Idol 9

Hyderabad-based LV Revanth -- a popular name in the southern entertainment industry -- overcame the language barrier to emerge the winner of popular singing reality show

Mumbai: Hyderabad-based LV Revanth -- a popular name in the southern entertainment industry -- overcame the language barrier to emerge the winner of popular singing reality show Indian Idol 9 on Sunday in a musical finale filled with various melodious as well as humourous motifs.

Revanth, who has lent his voice for around 200 songs in southern films including Baahubali: The Beginning, became known for his soulful voice right from the start when he auditioned for the show. Despite not knowing Hindi, he sang Bollywood songs effortlessly throughout the season and defeated Hyderabad-based P.V.N.S. Rohit and Punjab's Khuda Baksh in the finale to clinch the Indian Idoltrophy along with a contract with Universal Music and Rs 25 lakh.

"Right now I am on cloud nine. I am very happy for winning the show. I would say that my life has just began right now. It's not easy to win that title being a south Indian singer. I saw this show as a big opportunity. The four-month journey in this show has completely changed my life," Revanth told IANS

Ace choreographer-filmmaker Farah Khan, renowned singer Sonu Nigam and music composer Annu Malik, who kick-started the Indian Idol journey as judges in the first two editions, returned on the panel for the ninth season of the Sony Entertainment Television show, which was hosted by Karan Wahi and Paritosh Tripathi.

Being a known singer in Telugu and Kannada film industry, Revanth was the judges' and audience's favourite. As he said on the premiere episode itself, he joined Indian Idol to get recognition nationwide and debut in Bollywood.

Besides the outstanding and foot-tapping performances by the three finalists and the judges, the big highlight of the show was when legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar appeared for the world television premiere of his debut track "Cricket waali beat", on which he has collaborated with Sonu Nigam.

Another interesting element on the show was when comedian Sunil Grover appeared in the avatars of Dr. Mashoor Gulati and Rinku Bhabhi and took viewers on a laughter ride. He has been in news for a while now after having a fight with ace comedian Kapil Sharma in a flight while returning from an event for The Kapil Sharma Show. Sunil was joined by comedienne Sugandha Mishra

Earlier, Indian Idol worked as a platform for singers Abhijeet Sawant, Prashant Tamang, Sreeram Chandra and late Sandeep Acharya, who won the show in previous seasons and went on the make a name for themselves in the Indian music industry.

LV Revanth Wins Indian Idol 9: All That You Need to About the Young SingerAs 27 year old LV Revanth lifted the coveted trophy on the Indian Idol stage on Sunday night, he paved way for many aspiring singers from down south to participate in reality shows in Mumbai. Revanth, a well known name in Telugu and Kannada cinema for his playback singing, faced a language barrier when he set foot on the Indian Idol stage in its ninth season. But sheer hardwork, talent and immense popularity ensured he won ninth season. Revanth is only the second Telugu singer to have won the Indian Idol. In 2005, Telugu singer Sreeram Chandra had won the competition.

Born in 1990, Revanth’s full name is Lolla Venkata Revanth Kumar Sharma. Revanth studied in in Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam before moving to Hyderabad to pursue a career in playback singing. Having sung in nearly 200 Telugu and Kannada films, Revanth was a known name down south when he participated in Indian Idol.

The singer, who rose to popularity after singing Manohari in Baahubali: The Beginning, now wants to learn Hindi and pursue a career in Bollywood. “I have big dreams and I have to make it big in Bollywood. I have one eye set on Bollywood and the other on Tollywood, but I want to work on my Hindi first,” he told Hindustan Times soon after winning the reality show

Revanth’s father passed away before he was born and young singer is known to be close to his mother and elder brother. In 2008, he sang his first film song, Jhalak Diklaja in Maha Yagnam, composed by Vandemataram Srinivas.

The Indian Idol win is not his first though. In the past. He has, in the past, participated in several other reality shows on various Telugu television channels and emerged as a winner in all of them. Interestingly, Revanth has not been trained formally in music. ““Family situations never allowed me to do anything big. I came to Indian Idol not to win or lose, but only to sing. The best part about the show is the learning I got. I will go back home and visit a temple to offer my prayers to God,” said the singer.

New Delhi: Baahubali: The Beginning fame singer LV Revanth does not know Hindi, but he sang a number of Hindi chartbusters to win the ninth season of reality TV show Indian Idol. He says there are no language barriers in singing, and he now plans to make a mark for himself in Bollywood.

Revanth, who belongs to Visakhapatnam, in Andra Pradesh, and currently resides in Hyderabad, has lent his voice for more than 200 songs in southern films. He defeated Hyderabad-based P.V.N.S. Rohit and Punjab's Khuda Baksh on Sunday night to clinch the Indian Idol trophy.

Talking to IANS over phone from Mumbai after his victory, Revanth told IANS: "With this win, I have proved that language is not a barrier when it comes to singing. Now I am 80 to 90 per cent fine singing Hindi songs. But sometimes that south Indian diction comes in between as I am not a trained singer."

He said that when it came to song selection, he had problems with diction.

"There were so many people, including my friends, who made fun of me. But I took it as a challenge. I want to make my market value," said the singer, who lost his father even before he was born.

"Then me and my brother worked hard to get a livelihood. I want to have two voices now -- one for Tollywood (Telugu film industry) and the other for Bollywood," added the 26-year-old.

Revanth, who considers legendary singer Kishore Kumar as his idol, says his life has completely changed after appearing on the Sony Entertainment Television show, judged by Sonu Nigam, Annu Malik and Farah Khan.

He now wants to be known as a melodious singer."I have worked with various music directors down south, especially MM Keeravani. Keeravani is the person who groomed me. He told me, ‘Revanth try to sing melody songs rather than fast beat and party numbers'," Revanth said.

"He said to me that melody is timeless and can do wonders. But fast beat songs come on daily basis. So people forget them easily after a certain time. In southern industry, more than half of songs released are melody tracks only," he added.

Revanth says he will now learn Hindi in the "next few months".

"I wish to sing for all the actors like Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan," he said.

Revanth, who sang the song Manohari in the southern magnum opus Baahubali: The Beginning, is also excited about the release of its second part, "Baahubali: The Conclusion" on April 28.

"I feel lucky to be part of Baahubali: The Beginning. That film completely changed my life. Sometimes I felt bad as I missed being in Baahubali: The Conclusion. If I had sung another song for the second part, that would have been great," Revanth said.

"But I chose to be part of Indian Idol. So, it's fine now. I feel Indian Idol was my Baahubali 2. I am excited about the release of the second part," he concluded.

LV Revanth, the South Indian playback singer, has reached a major milestone — he has bagged the trophy of Indian Idol Season 9. What’s next? He wants to prove those who mocked his Hindi wrong by learning the language and making a mark in Bollywood. But before that, it’s time for celebration. “I will go back home and celebrate with my friends and family who supported me, but I will come back to Bollywood and settle here,” says 26-year-old Revanth, who has won prize money of Rs 25 lakh and a contract with Universal Music. “I want to thank all the people who have supported me in my journey to win the first ever show of my life.”

Revanth, who’s from Hyderabad and is already an established singer in the Telugu film industry, aka Tollywood, sang the song Manohari in Baahubali: The Beginning. Determined to make it big in Bollywood, he says, “I have big dreams and I have to make it big in Bollywood. I have one eye set on Bollywood and the other on Tollywood, but I want to work on my Hindi first.”

Revanth, whose original name is Lolla Venkata Revanth Kumar Sharma, is the second Telugu singer to win the Indian Idol title, the first one being Sreeram Chandra who bagged the title in the Season 5 of the Indian Idol.

Born on February 10, 1990 in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh state, Revanth had his education in Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam. He moved to Hyderabad to pursue his career in playback singing. He lost his father, just before he was born. He has an elder brother and he was brought up by his mother.

Revanth’s career took a turn with the encouragement given by popular Telugu music composer MM Keeravani. In 2008, he sang his first film song, Jhalak Diklaja in Maha Yagnam, composed by Vandemataram Srinivas. He won several awards including the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) award for the best playback singing. He participated in several reality shows on Telugu television channels and emerged as title winner.

The winner recalls the time he drew mockery for his poor Hindi on the show: “When I started my journey in Indian Idol, a lot of people laughed at me for not knowing Hindi very well. I did feel bad about it, initially, but I did not let anything negative affect me and kept my willpower strong.”

Revanth is ready to repeat the struggle in Bollywood, as he’s sure that he will rise. “I know the value of money, opportunity and hard work,” he says. “I know that Bollywood is a huge industry and the number of artists is huge as well. But I want its people to listen to my songs and recognise my talent.”

What makes him proudest? The fact that he achieved all this success without any formal training in music. Revanth says, “Family situations never allowed me to do anything big. I came to Indian Idol not to win or lose, but only to sing. The best part about the show is the learning I got. I will go back home and visit a temple to offer my prayers to God.”

These 5 things helped Baahubali Singer LV Revanth win Indian IdolBaahubali singer LV Revanth has won Indian Idol and we feel these 5 things worked to his advantage.

The success of Indian Idol winner Lolla Venkata Revanth Kumar Sharma, popularly known as LV Revanth, cannot be attributed just to his talent and good looks, he surely cracked the formula of winning a reality TV show, without even realising that everything he did on the show was just perfect.

At the glittering grand finale ceremony that aired on Sony Entertainment Television last night, Revanth was crowned the winner by none other than the God of cricket--Sachin Tendulkar, who also made his television debut with the singing reality show. The first runners-up was Khuda Baksh while PVNS Rohit was the second runners-up.

Here are 5 reasons the Baahubali singer went on to win the show

1. He is a trained classical singer: Revanth is a trained classical singer and is popular among the viewers because of his career down south. No wonder, apart from his performance, large number of votes made him the winner. The fact that he forgot the lines in his last performance and still went on to win the show proves that audiences had already in their heads had decided to make him the winner

2. He had an interesting back story: We all know how reality shows these days are more about emotions than talent. The Vishakhapatnam-based bearded Telugu singer beat Khuda Baksh and PVNS Rohit because fans and voters had made Revanth a clear winner a day before (as apparent from social media) and here is why. Revanth has an interesting back story of a perfect underdog that gained him public sympathy. He has had his share of struggles in life. His father died before he was born and was brought up by his mother. He worked at PCO booths and catering companies to fund his education in music

3. He is already a star down south: Revanth has come a long way in southern music industry and apart from singing in Telugu films, he has also performed in shows worldwide. Besides, this is not the first time Revanth has won a reality show. Down south, he has won the reality show Super singer 8.

4. His looks: The intense and cute-looking Revanth has been trained by Telugu legendary composer M M Keeravani. He has also sung for many Telugu films, noteworthy of them being Bahubali (he sand Mahohari). Down south, he is very popular and his fans call him Rocking Revanth. No wonder girls swoon over him and vote, and he gets youth support needed for any performer to succeed.

5. He overcame his limitations with flying colours: When Revanth started off in Indian Idol, he was not comfortable with Hindi but he gradually overcame this and gained confidence. Though Khuda Baksh from Punjab and Rohit were talented and versatile, it's Revanth's popularity that proved to the game changer for him.He has around 1.8 lakh followers on Facebook and more than 80 thousand followers on Instagram.

Recently, he also lent his voice to the title track of Sabse Bada Kalakar, the show that will replace Indian Idol next week onwards.

Indian Idol has given great singers like Monali Thakur, Abhijeet Sawant, Meiyang Chang to the Indian music industry. Revanth definitely has a bright future now. Coming from a non-Hindi speaking background, he surely has come a long way

The winner of Indian Idol 9 now sets sights on Bollywood Vizag boy L.V. Revanth, the winner of Indian Idol 9 of Sony Entertainment Television, is on cloud nine. After he was announced the winner of the show on Sunday night, his phone did not stop ringing.

It is not the first time the talented singer had tasted success. Revanth is already an established singer in the Telugu and the Kannada film industry. But this success is particularly special for him.

In an exclusive interview with The Hindu, the singer said people mocked his poor Hindi pronunciation and humiliated him for dreaming to be a playback singer in Bollywood without knowing the language. “Every time I went for the auditions, people made fun of my Hindi. I took each and every positive and negative comment as a feedback, but never let them pull me down. Winning this title is like a dream and a great achievement for me. For the next three months, my whole focus will be to learn Hindi language. My ultimate goal is to rock Bollywood,” said the ecstatic singer.

Savouring success, Revanth on cloud nine Language barrierBecause of the language barrier, he had to put in much greater effort in not only his singing but also understand the meaning of each and every Hindi word before every performance. He would first write the lyrics of the songs in English, understand the meaning of each and every word to portray the right emotion and then memorise the song thoroughly.

“The competition was very tough. The other contestants were trained classical singers and had a solid foundation in Hindi. I had to put in a lot more effort to match up to it,” Revanth said.

Born in Srikakulam, Revanth completed his schooling from Visakhapatnam before shifting base to Hyderabad to pursue his passion for music which has been on rise every since. In Srikakulam, he had studied in Bala Bhanu Vidyalayam and mastered ‘veda parayanam’, which he feels helped him to pick up the nuances of music from an early age. He had lost his father even before he was born and worked at PCO booths and catering companies. Having sung over 200 songs in Telugu and Kannada films, Revanth’s rendition of ‘Manohari...’ in Baahubali made a big impact.

Love for VizagRecalling his days in Visakhapatnam, the young singer said: “The city is very special for me. All my relatives live in Visakhapatnam and I have some great memories of the city. We are a big joint family. I used to participate in district and State-level competitions during my stay in the city.” Revanth had earlier performed on many occasions in the city.

Having set his eyes on Bollywood now, Revanth is ready for all the challenges. “I know the value of money and hard work. There are no shortcuts in the film industry. The talent pool is huge in Bollywood, but I am here to make a name and Indian Idol is a big platform towards that direction,” he said. Revanth also lent his voice to the title track of Sabse Bada Kalakar, the show that will replace Indian Idol next week onwards.

As the Indian Idol inches towards the finale, L V Revanth keeps his fingers crossed

LV Revanth is a mix of tradition and modernity. With a gold chain which has a pendant of goddess Lakshmi around his neck, his gelled hair and a small ponytail exudes style. As one among the top five contestants of The Indian Idol 2017, the pressure is building up on the participants. A calm and composed Revanth observes he is enjoying the phase. “Chala super ga undi andi,” he says excitedly. “Everything has gone well till now. I am in top 5 and quite happy with that; I am taking each day as it comes.” In fact, he has been following the same mantra when it comes to reality shows as he has participated earlier too in shows like Super Singer

Positive attitudeYou will be surprised to know that Revanth does not know Hindi. But watch him on the show, and he is crooning different kinds of Hindi numbers. He shares not knowing the language was reflected on. “I was hesitant because I didn’t know Hindi and wondered whether I should participate or not. I was apprehensive about leaving my Telugu film career for Indian Idol and If I get rejected there, I have a lot to lose,” he recalls. He maintains it has been his positive attitude and his belief to elevate his plus points which helped him through.

Born and brought up in Srikakulam, the family shifted to Visakhapatnam. His music career has brought him to Hyderabad and has been on a rise. He has sung around 200 songs and undoubtedly his number Manohari... in Baahubali, made a big impact.

He shares the mood among contestants is stressful during an Indian Idol episode. “The tension is 100 per cent and we all wait and watch how the judges respond. There is competition among us but we are all like a family. Everyone comes from a different region and miss our families. We make it up by cracking jokes, eating together and easing the mental state of mind. We have created a bond among ourselves,” he smiles.

An opportunityWe give the example of previous Indian Idol winners, who have not been able to shine in their careers. He shares the show is an opportunity and one has to cash in on it in a right way. “It all depends how one is able to carry the fame and popularity,” he states and stresses the family support makes all the difference. “At my home, they are happy with my participation and enjoy seeing me sing on television. It doesn’t matter if I win or lose,” he shares. One also saw how originally on Indian Idol, he was being identified as a singer from Hyderabad but now he is called as a singer from Visakhapatnam. He observes it has changed because he had applied for auditions from Hyderabad. “There were no auditions in Visakhapatnam so I applied from here. Also, since there is another singer Rohit from Hyderabad, the city has been changed so that the voting does not clash,” he explains.

As he keeps his fingers crossed for the big day on April 2 when the finals will be held, we ask about the small kumkum on his forehead which has become his trademark style. “I am a devout and studied in a vedic school. It is a practice started by my mother and I never go out without a kumkum.”

LV Revanth wins Indian Idol title Hyderabad-based playback singer L.V. Revanth talks about winning the show and reveals that he now wants to become the next B’wood sensation.

After weeks of hard work and multiple rounds of competition, Hyderabad lad L.V. Revanth was crowned the winner of Indian Idol 9 on Sunday. The glittering grand finale also had Masterblaster Sachin Tendulkar in attendance. We caught up with the winner soon after for a quick chat. Excerpts from the interview: Q. Has the feeling sunk in or are you still pinching yourself hard to believe you are indeed holding the prestigious Indian Idol trophy? Honestly, it’s so surreal. I have never won any competition before even though I have participated in a lot of reality shows down South. I am an untrained singer, but I trusted my passion and the hard work I invested paid off. I felt so happy receiving the trophy from Sachin Tendulkar. I thank everyone with all my heart for making me their Indian Idol. I cannot ask for anything more. Right from day one, the journey has been filled with varied emotions like joy, anxiety, fun and nervousness. But holding this glorious trophy in my hand gives me a feeling that it was all worth it!

Q. Your language barrier is a well-known fact. What gave you an edge over contenders like Khuda Baksh and Rohit? It was the toughest competition for me because of the language issue. I could not express myself well because I am not fluent in Hindi and many even made fun of me because my Hindi was weak. That fear somehow always stayed with me but never did it hinder my confidence or focus (during singing). Indian Idol has been a boon in many ways. They (the judges) worked hard on my diction and language and groomed me pretty well. It gave me a scope to perform exceptionally well, even more than I could imagine. I always trusted myself and the power of my voice. Sonu (Nigam) always complimented me on using my voice well.

Q. You were not just the judges’ favourite but also had a strong connect with viewers, who pretty much predicted your win. Farah (Khan) said ‘Welcome to Bollywood’ and Anu Malik has assured me that he will use my voice in one of his films. In fact, Anu sir is my idol. Whenever I would feel low, he would encourage me with his words of support. I lost my father at a young age, so I saw him in Anu Malik. I am very grateful to all the judges for their unconditional support. I would also like to thank all the people who believed in me and voted for me. Even though I am a South Indian boy, I got a tremendous response from the North as well. Today, all of India knows who Revanth is. I want to become a Bollywood sensation next!

Q. Hyderabad is proud of their boy and is celebrating your win. Any message for fans back home? This victory belongs to the whole of South and North India. Since I stay in Hyderabad, a special thanks to the people who voted for me from there.

Q. What are you going to do with all that prize money? I have a lot of responsibilities and commitments but I will give 10 per cent to a charity.

Indian Idol 9 winner LV Revanth: I want to sing for Akshay Kumar, AR RahmanIndian Idol 9 winner LV Revanth said he has already started his Bollywood career.

Baahubali singer and a fan favourite, LV Revanth was praised for his work week after week in Indian Idol 9 but the singer himself was wary and worried. Despite singing over 200 songs in his career, Revanth was low on confidence as he wasn’t fluent in Hindi. Revanth was always deemed as one of the strongest performers on the singing reality show, and hence his win didn’t come as a surprise for the viewers but for the artiste himself, it will take some time before it sinks in.

Talking to indianexpress.com a few hours after his win, an overwhelmed Revanth shared his journey on the show, his Bollywood aspirations and the biggest task at hand — learning Hindi. “I was a little confident about winning but honestly, I used to feel very bad at times because I didn’t know the language. I wanted to express myself and talk but I couldn’t. Indian Idol 9 was a dream. So, I used to be unhappy that I couldn’t express myself on such a big platform because of the language barrier. Learning Hindi is my utmost priority now. I am staying in Mumbai now and will make sure I get a grip on the language,” Revanth said as he talks about his three-month sojourn on one of the most popular reality shows.

It’s because of the talent that I am here, as Indian Idol winner. I have realised that North India likes me, the people here like my voice. I have got a tremendous response here. So, that makes me very happy. I am grateful to the audience for voting for me in large numbers,” he said, adding Mumbai is going to be his abode from now.

SMALL TALK: SURVIVING THE IDOL LIFEThe Telugu playback singer and reality show winner on his struggle with Hindi and how featuring in back-to-back reality shows has kept him from learning music.

Lolla Venkata Revanth or L V Revanth, who recently won Indian Idol 9, barely fits the mould of a Hindi reality show contestant. Struggling to construct a sentence in Hindi, the playback singer popularly known as ‘Rockstar’ in Tollywood, has sung over 200 songs in Telugu and Kannada movies, including the blockbuster Baahubali: The Beginning. The one question he’s asked several times a day, he shares, is why he opted for this platform despite being an established playback singer. “I’ve done well in the south but no one knows me here. So, I want to rock Bollywood too,” says Revanth, who wants to begin by “learning proper Hindi” because “to become a Bollywood playback singer, it is essential”. The 26-year-old lost out on various projects including singing for one of his favourite actors Akshay Kumar in Special 26 due to his inability to speak fluently in Hindi. When Revanth first came to Mumbai in November last year to audition for the reality show, he knew that language would be a barrier. But having won the competition now, he credits his peers, mentors and judges on the show for helping him overcome his impediment. “They all constantly worked on my diction. They would keep saying ‘Hain’ not ‘Hey’,” says Revanth, who downloaded videos of Hindi film numbers to understand the mood of the songs, even though he couldn’t make sense of the lyrics. “I’ve studied in a Telugu-medium school in Visakhapatnam and belong to a middle-class Brahmin family. My family taught me to value money and people,” says the singer who lost his father in a road accident and was raised in a joint family comprising 30 members. Having dropped out in the final year of college, Revanth moved to Hyderabad to try his luck in singing. “My family always told me to participate in every competition and it didn’t

matter if I didn’t win,” says the singer who participated in three seasons of Maa TV’s Super Singer and a few other reality shows down south. “I was a runner up twice but never won.” What kept Revanth from giving up was the belief his family had in him. “My uncle who works in SBI and my sister who works in Oracle, shifted to Hyderabad so that they could be with me and support my singing.”The singer remembers lapping up every job he could bag in his initial days. Prior to playback, he worked for a catering company and also delivered newspapers. His first time behind the microphone was as a composing singer where he assisted various music directors, recorded scratches and even lent his voice to chorus parts of numerous tracks. “I would go to each and every recording, even if I was called in the middle of the night. Once I was 20 km away from the recording studio and a music director asked me to get there in 10 minutes. I just jumped on my bike and made it there because if I didn’t, I would lose that assignment,” says the singer who remembers packing an extra pair of clothes to sleep over at the studio, just in case a recording job came up.

Revanth’s efforts paid off when he got his solo break in S S Rajamouli’s Maryada Ramanna (2010). For him, this break is particularly memorable as he got to sing for his mentor and music composer M M Keeravani, who also gave him his biggest hit, Manohari from Baahubali: The Beginning. “M M Keeravani Sir taught me everything, including how to conduct myself in the industry. I was brash but he always told me to be polite and grounded and that songs will come and go,” says the singer who wants to now invest time in polishing his craft. “I am not a trained singer, so I want to learn music. I have been to Vedic school but academically, I was poor. Then, I started doing reality shows and my schedule required me to report to shoots at 8 am and I would get done by 2 am. So there was no time to learn anything,” shares Revanth. He now plans to take a break from reality TV to reinvent himself. “Given a chance, I’d like to participate in American Idol, no problem if I don’t win,” he signs off.

Revanth Returns to Hyderabad as Indian Idol 2017!

The first homecoming of LV Revanth as winner of Indian Idol Season 9 was a jouyous affair. The 27-year-old arrived to milling crowds holding placards and posters welcoming him back home in Hyderabad! The singer had to struggle to make his way, amid fans, who surrounded him for photo-ops. Some even followed his car with banners, creating a buzz on the road.

And this wasn't all. At his Mehdipatnam residence in Hyderabad, there was more celebration waiting. Friends and family gathered with dhols, garlands and sweets, even as his mother Sita Subbalakshmi embraced Revanth and welcomed him with a tilak. We caught up with Revanth's brother Santhosh, who said, "Revanth wasn't supposed to come today but he gave all of us a big surprise. One of his close friends called us on Tuesday night and informed that he's coming this morning (Wednesday) leaving us with no time to prepare. But my mom has already made his favourite food — fried potatoes, gulab jamun and chutney. In the evening, we plan to go out for family dinner."

The Indian Idol had a pretty packed day ahead with meetings with bigwigs like IT minister KTR, music composer MM Keeravani and director SS Rajamouli.

Indian Idol LV Revanth: I am already having a ‘celebrity wala’ feeling

All of Hyderabad cheered on as city boy, LV Revanth was adjudged Indian Idol on Sunday night. And what made it extra special was the fact that his "all-time hero", cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, handed him the Indian Idol trophy. "It's a dream come true to win the title and it could not have been better than getting it from the legend himself," said the 27-year-old, adding, "I finally got my girlfriend..." referring to an earlier interview where he told Hyderabad Times, "Abhi ke liye Indian Idol he meri girlfriend hain..." Revanth, who rocked the finale, with his electrifying performance of Ude Dil Befikre, said he is overwhelmed by the support that poured in for him. "I thank everybody who voted for me, especially the people of Hyderabad. I can't wait to be in Hyderabad and meet everyone," added the singer, as he took time out from all the celebrations in Mumbai for a telecon. Excerpts.

So, has the feeling sunk in yet...? I am already having a 'celebrity wala' feeling... I partied till 2 am with other participants and crew members of the show. We danced like there's no tomorrow. But then I had to get up early in the morning as I had promotional activities and interviews lined-up. It's all pretty crazy!

You got pretty emotional on stage when you were declared Indian Idol 2017...Tears rolled down my mother's eyes when I won the title; that got me emotional. When I hugged her, the first thing she told me was 'Revanth, I know you are good, but always be humble'. Sachin sir also said the same thing and asked me to not let success get to my head. I had lost my father before I was born, so I know the importance of family. I have been brought up in a humble environment and I'll never forget my roots.

What was the toughest part of this three-month journey to the title? Being away from my home had to be the toughest bit; but then I found another family here —- the Indian Idol family. It was a tough test. Before participating in the show, people's opinions and criticism took a toll on me. A lot of people used to say things such as 'Isko toh Hindi nahi ati, yeh toh already playback singer hain, kyun aya hain participate karne,' and all that. Initially, that hurt. but I took the criticism in my stride and went out to prove my worth. I took it as a challenge and I won.

Like I've said before, I'm an untrained singer and I have worked really hard to win this title. But there were people on the show, like my teachers Anand and Arun sir, who would constantly encouraged me and boost my confidence. So yes, it's been a great journey and I think all three of us — Rohit, Khuda Baksh and me — are winners.

Was Anu Malik your favourite judge? You even gifted him a collage of your selfies with him...To tell you the truth, Sonu Nigam sir was like a 'raakshas'. He's so good, he'd pick on every line we sang and correct us. I salute his commitment to perfection. Farah Khan was sweet; like a mother — she made sure we didn't miss our family. but Anu malik sir was the one who first believed in me. from day one, he would say, 'Revanth, you're my Indian Idol.' I remember my first gala round performance was not so good as I was suffering from a throat infection, but Anu sir pulled me up. He always taught me like a teacher and supported me like a family member. So yes, I have a soft corner for him.

You've already sung the title track for the upcoming reality show Sabse Bada Kalakar. And this win will open more avenues for you. Are you planning to shift your base from Hyderabad to Mumbai?

I am not shifting from Hyderabad. It's my hometown and I love being there. I will travel to Mumbai for whatever projects I get, but my base will always be Hyderabad. I've got a few offers, so I'm hoping for the best. I will rock Bollywood soon.

I want to become Indian Idol, not just for me, but for Hyderabad too

If the ticker-tape parade put up by his friends and fans during his recent visit to Hyderabad is anything to go by, then it's safe to assume that LV Revanth is a big contender for this season Indian Idol title. And why not? The 25-year-old Mehdipatnam boy has got the voice, the looks and the chutzpah! And what's more, he even has 200-odd songs in Tollywood and Sandalwood, to his credit, despite the fact that he's not even a trained singer. In a chat Hyderabad Times, Revanth takes us through his journey so far and tells why he believes he is Indian Idol material.

A cliched question — how does it feel to be among the top three finalists in Indian Idol 9?It feels great of course! I am grateful for to all those who have been supporting and voting for me till date. I hope people continue to vote for me, 'cos I promise to keep singing well and hope to win the title, not just for me, but for Hyderabad as well.

So where did it all begin? In Vizag. That's where I was born. Even before I was born though, I lost my father. I grew up with my mother and elder brother, Santhosh.

As a kid, I used to participate in local singing competitions in Vizag, and that's how my passion for singing began. I started doing well and so we moved to Hyderabad in 2008 so that I can pursue a career in singing. I studied B.Com at AV College, and while in college too, I used to take part in many reality shows in Hyderabad. In fact, I won one of them and was adjudged runner-up in a couple of others. MM Keeravani garu spotted me and introduced me to Telugu films. That's how my singing career kick-started. I have lent my voice for films such as Badrinath, Dhammu, Rajanna, Ee Rojullo, Naa Ishtam, Shirdi Sai, Sudigadu, Supreme, Thikka among others.

But why participate in a reality show after having 200 songs to your credit in Telugu and Kannada? I want to make a mark in Bollywood as well; I want to be known nationally like Sonu Nigam sir. it was my uncle Srinivas who encouraged me to participate in the show. He loves Hindi songs and would always tell me, 'if Karunya or Sreeramachandra can participate and do well, why can't you?' It's because of him I am where I am now.

Your Hindi isn't so good though, is it? even the judges, Sonu Nigam, Farah Khan and Anu Malik, have pointed that out...That's also another reason why I chose to participate in the show! I wanted to brush up my Hindi and ab mujhe thoda thoda Hindi aata hai (laughs). I got offers to sing for Hindi films in the past too, but things didn't materialise because of my diction. My Hindi has a huge Telugu influence. but I'm working on it and trying to converse in Hindi with people.

when it comes to singing though, I think I'm pretty good at learning the lyrics by heart; it's about time before I master the language.

But you seem to have impressed celebrity judges with your showmanship... Anushka Sharma even said that you are 'hero material'...

It was nice to hear that from her. (grins) Such comments do make me happy. But I don't take them too seriously; I don't want it to get to my head, you see. as far as being "hero material" is concerned, I've have had a lot of offers from South films, including one Tamil film, but I didn't take up. I want to focus solely on my singing career and carve out a distinct identity for myself. I hope this platform will open new avenues for me.

You tend to flirt with every actress who comes on the show. So, doesn't the girlfriend mind?

(Laughs) Abhi toh Indian idol hi meri girlfriend hai. I'm single. But, it's just healthy flirting, you know. I am a little mischievous I guess and that's what you get to see on TV.

Indian Idol Season 9: Contestant L V Reyvanth sings title track of Sabse Bada Kalakar

Indian Idol Season 9 has given the audience some really great talent, they have entertained everybody with their top notch singing and performances. Therefore it did not come as a surprise when L V Revanth who is currently in the top Four was approached to sing the Title track for Sony Entertainment Television’s kids reality show, Sabse Bada Kalakar.

LV Revanth is known for his resonating strong voice. Vibrant and full of energy Revanth has a childlike joy in him which makes him perfect for the rendition of this song.

All the three judges Boman Irani, Raveena Tandon and Arshad Warsi were very impressed by the song and took to the platform of Sabse Bada Kalakar to express their appreciation.

Not only did they congratulate L V Revanth of being able to bag a place in the top 4 of Indian Idol 9 but also conveyed to him the fact that they loved the way that he has sung the title track

Revanth, who lends voice for more than 135

songs, will soon be trying his luck in acting

When singer Revanth sings, his bassy voice gets intense and

for the listener the rest of the world becomes unimportant.

Like a fairy waving the magic wand, his voice keeps echoing

in the ears even after he stops humming the tunes.

Perhaps, that’s how he was able to grab runner-up titles

both in Super Singer-5 and Super Singer-7 and make a

mark in the film world by getting selected for the best

upcoming playback singer in the film Badrinath and Maa

Cinema award in Rajanna within a span of four years.

Revanth was able to carve a niche in the highly competitive

world of playback singing, lending his voice for more than

135 songs and working with popular music directors like

Koti, M.M. Keeravani, Chakri, Thaman, and Mani Sharma.

When he was here in the city to take part in a cultural show,

he spoke about his musical journey. “My success mantra is

very simple. I never say no to any offer that comes my way.

The first break in tinsel town was in the film ‘Maryada

Ramanna’ in which I sang for Ennalaku pedda panduga

vachche,” he says.

After that Dammu, Prema Katha Chitram, Kotha Janta,

Badrinath, and Bus Stop followed. With no formal training in

classical music, what is the secret behind Revanth’s success

in the field? “When I was studying in Bala Bhanu Vidyalayam

in Srikakulam, I was adept at veda parayanam. This made

me to pick up the nuances of music ever since my

childhood,” the singer says.

Born in Srikakulam and brought up in Vizag, the 24-year-old

singer says that music is the only field he is passionate

about. “I lost my father when I was very young. My only

ambition in life is to make my mother, ammamma

(grandma), uncles and aunts feel proud of my talent in

music,” he says. The singer will soon be trying his luck in

acting as well.

SINGING THEIR

WAY TO SUCCESSWatch Hyderabadi lads Revanth and Rohit take on other contestants at Indian Idol tonight.

After many years of hard work and patience, two

Hyderabadi boys are finally set to shine again on a national

platform. Baahubali fame singer Revanth and Rohit Paritala

will soon be seen in the popular singing reality show

Indian Idol Season 9. If all goes well, the duo may follow in

the footsteps of their predecessors Sreerama Chandra

Mynampati and NC Karunya who made it big on the

singing talent show. While NC Karunya got placed as first

runner-up in season 2, it was only in season 5 that

Sreerama Chandra Mynampati from Hyderabad stood

winner.

Following five gruelling rounds, Revanth and Rohit Paritala

have finally made it to the Top 14 round of the show. With

nearly 150-180 songs in Telugu cinema under his belt,

Revanth is already a well-known singer down south, but

says he now wants to try his luck in B-Town. “I sang Janam

Janam Saath Chalna from Dilwale, which was liked by the

judges. But they weren’t aware that I had sung in

Baahubali. When I told them, Farah Khan asked me why I

was participating in the show when I’m already working in

the field. I told her I want to rock Bollywood,” recalls

Revanth who proceeded to sing Manohari from Baahubali,

much to the delight of the judges Sonu Nigam and Anu

Malik.

While the stylish Revanth remains tight-lipped about his

preparations, Rohith Paritala is a little more forthcoming

on his expectations from the show. The talented singer is

not new to the reality singing show format, having

participated and won in many Telugu TV reality shows.

Adept in both classical Carnatic and light music, Rohith is

among the select few who can carry a gamak without

breaking a sweat.

“I have always wanted to take part in Indian Idol but was

waiting for the right time to do it. I wanted to be well

prepared with Hindi songs so I could compete with other

singers there. Also I’m a big fan of Sonu Nigam sir and was

very happy to sing in front of him,” shares Rohith. Luck

seems to be on his side, as he made it directly to Top 25

out of 150 contestants.

“Usually after the first audition, one has to clear two

theatre rounds. But the judges liked my rendition of Badal

Ghumad Badh Aaye from the 1997 film Saaz so much that I

was given a Golden Mike for the Best Performance and

promoted directly without having to attend the first

theatre round. I really thank God for that!” laughs Rohith.

His winning streak continued with the second theatre

round which helped him clinch the final spot in Top 14. “I

sang Ay Hairathe from the film Guru for which I received

the Golden Mike for the second time and landed in Top

14”.

After the initial euphoria, both contestants are now busy

learning new songs and honing their singing skills in

various genres of Hindi film songs. However, Revanth and

Rohith haven’t interacted much outside of the rehearsals

which are more than 10 hours long. That’s partly due to

the reason that each room has two contestants from

different cities. With the current crop of singers doubling

up as performers too, Season 5 winner Sreerama Chandra

feels contestants have to put in effort on both counts.

“Competition is getting tougher by the day. The pressure is

high and should be balanced.” On the bright side, he says

they are luckier compared to those from the previous

seasons, since contestants are allowed to use mobile

phones and social media. “Earlier, the contestants were

allowed to speak only for three minutes in a week with

their families and no other communication was allowed.

It’s much better now,” says Sreerama Chandra.

INDIAN IDOL 9

JUDGE ANU MALIK

EXPLAINS WHY IT’S JUSTIFIED

TO TAKE BAAHUBALI SINGER

LV REVANTH IN THE TALENT SHOW

LV Revanth is one of the 14 contestants who

has been shortlisted in Indian Idol 9

Post the success of Super Dancer, Sony

Entertainment Television is all set to entertain us

with Indian Idol. The 9th season of the popular

singing reality show, which is going to premiere on

24th December 2016, marks the comeback of its

original trio of judges, Farah Khan, Sonu Nigam

and Anu Malik, who have come together on the

platform after 12 years! The channel launched the

show in a grand ceremony in Mumbai last night in

the attendance were all the three judges.

They introduced the media to four of their final

contestants, of which one was LV Revanth. He

performed on Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’s song Bulleya.

Seeing him perform, anyone could have make out

that he is a seasoned singer who knows how to

perform in front of a live audience. Soon Karan

Wahi, who will be hosting this season, announced

that he is the same guy who sung Manohari in

Baahubali. He then asked him to hum some lines

from that song. He sung the song and the entire

audience started hooting and clapping.

There is no doubt that he is a complete performer

and has the potential to go way ahead in the show,

but how justified is it to pick an established singer

in a talent show in place of someone who is in dire

need of a platform. What was the rationale behind

it ?

Anu said “We have picked up them also. And the

rationale is that yeh manch nahi yeh rishta hai jo

bharat ko bharat se jodta hai, you would have

heard these lines. Till date, we have never got any

South Indian singer Go back to Indian Idol’s

previous seasons, we never got. This season, if we

would have want, we could have avoided because

they don’t speak our language. The unique part of

this boy was he couldn’t speak Hindi but when he

started singing in Hindi, I, Sonu and Farah looked

at each other. We weren’t told earlier that he is

from South, he came and told us that he has

already sung. Personally as a judge and even for

Sonu and Farah, we didn’t want to miss this singer

because he hasn’t sung any Hindi song, he doesn’t

know Hindi language, he can’t speak it but he

sings well. If he would have sung Hindi songs

earlier then maybe I would have said that you have

got the experience.”

INDIAN IDOL: REVANTH AND KHUDABAKSH’S

ELECTRIFYING PERFORMANCE SET THE STAGE ON FIRE

Revanth and Khudabaksh's performance is best that you have seen in Indian Idol ever.

It was all about Andaz in this episode of Indian Idol and all

the singers have put their best foot forward. There were

some awesome performances that will go down in the

history of this show. And it all began with the master

himself – Sonu Nigam. The singer paid tribute to India by

singing a medley of patriotic songs. Man what a voice! He

is simply brilliant. He can make any song sound so

beautiful and heart touching. Bollywood should be glad a

singer like Sonu Nigam sings for the films. Since it was an

Andaz round, Farah Khan too showed a different style. She

wore a saree and looked stunning! In fact, she has

groomed these singers for this episode so that they can

show some swag too. After watching the episode, I can say

she did a fab job.

The first performance was of Tejendar and Shravan who

sang Gulaabo from Shaandar. The start was a bit shaky but

they picked up rather well and ended it on a high.

Everyone was ecstatic and Farah even called them

rockstars. Shravan credited it to the director saying that he

never thought classical songs can be sung differently as

well. Sonu and Anu were pleased too.

Malvika and Hardeep sang Ainvaye Ainvaye from Band

Bajaa Baaraat and it was just spectacular. They not only

sang well but got the nok-jhok right too. Farah was

pleasantly surprised while Sonu applauded Malvika more

because she actually set the stage on fire.

Khudabaksh and Reyanth’s Dhan te nan from Kamineey

was simply mindblowing. I have never heard a rendition so

powerful and strong. It was sheer magic. Even the judges

felt they were awesome. Revanth even walked away with

the Golden Mike for the same and became the first

contestant to reach the Top 8 category. Khudabaksh

however will have to prove his mettle again to get a spot in

Top 8. Their moms paid them a surprise visit on the show

and they sang too.

Mansi-Jelly’s Aunty ji from Ekk Main Aur Ekk Tu was the

most underperfoming team in the show. They went

haywire and just couldn’t keep up.

At last, four of the top 8 contestants were announced.

Apart from Revansh, there are Mohit, Malvika, Shravan and

Hardeep. Rest will have to contest again to get a spot in

top 8.
