When we’re reeling from shock, we can either fall into despair or we can recover with resurrection power. Jesus has been there. Just look at the week before his crucification. It starts out with a throng of followers singing his praises as he enters Jerusalem. In a matter of days, the crowd’s cheers turn to jeers. An associate sells him out for a few coins. Other supposedly loyal friends can’t even stay awake when he needs their support. And his prized disciple says, “I don’t know him” - not once but three times. Like Jesus, we’ve been through the wringer. We’ve walked through fire. We’ve experienced hurt-breaks. But through the pain, something good has happened. Jesus has fine-tuned us with resurrection power, able to ascend from shocks and unanswered questions, able to look hurt in the face, turn it inside out, and learn from it. We make the adjustments needed and move on. We are changed. Our hurt-breaks make us more compassionate, more caring, more loving, and more aware of another’s pain. HAND WORK Give erasers to people who are in the midst of a hurt- break. It’s to remind them Jesus will erase what has happened, slowly and gently. Resurrection recovery “We have been condemned justly…. but this man has done nothing criminal.” Lk 23:41

Why did God let this happen? When is enough going to be enough? How much more do I have to take? I’m often asked these questions, and I

wish I had the answers. When we’re reeling from shock, we can either

fall into despair or we can recover with resurrection power. Jesus has been there. Just look at the week before his crucification.

It starts out with a throng of followers singing his praises as he enters

Jerusalem. In a matter of days, the crowd’s cheers turn to jeers. An

associate sells him out for a few coins. Other supposedly loyal friends

can’t even stay awake when he needs their support. And his prized disciple says, “I don’t know him” - not once but three times.

Like Jesus, we’ve been through the wringer. We’ve walked through

fire. We’ve experienced hurt-breaks. But through the pain, something

good has happened. Jesus has fine-tuned us with resurrection power,

able to ascend from shocks and unanswered questions, able to look hurt in the face, turn it inside out, and learn from it. We make the adjustments needed and move on. We are changed. Our hurt-breaks make us more compassionate, more caring, more loving, and more

aware of another’s pain.

HAND WORK Give erasers to people who are in the midst of a hurt-break. It’s to remind them Jesus will erase what has happened, slowly

and gently.

HEART WORDS Jesus, help me to recover with the resurrection power when life knocks me down, and to help others do the same. Amen

Palm Sunday of the Passion of Our Lord Our Lenten journey climaxes in this celebration of Holy Week. Throughout these days we are called to experience with Christ a journey of unselfish love; to die to all that is sinful in us and to rise to new and renewed life. Will justice and charity be renewed in us through this journey? Will we make room for those in need as we let selfishness die in us?
