THIS WEEK’S CALENDAR

Through the Lord’s Supper, Jesus comes to us and grants us His eternal gifts! As we prepare to receive the Lord’s Supper, God’s Word encourages us to examine ourselves. The following questions can help you as you prepare to receive the Lord and His gifts: 1) Do you believe that you are a sinner whose hope for eternal life comes from

Christ alone? Romans 3:23-24 2) Do you believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son and your Savior? Matt. 16:15-17 3) Do you believe that Jesus is present in this sacred meal to grant His forgiveness?

Matthew 26:26-28 4) Do you, by the power of the Holy Spirit, desire to live a godly life in response to

the Lord’s grace and goodness? Romans 12:1-2

Prepare for the Lord’s Supper

Driving the Word Home

April 29 and April 30, 2017

Dr. Steve Buuck

Monday What effect did God’s Word (the Scriptures) have on Cleopas and his companion in Luke 24? Has God’s word ever had a similar effect on you? Tuesday Have you ever lost hope? Was your faith in God able to help you restore your hope? Wednesday Why do you suppose God kept the Cleopas and his companion from recognizing Jesus as they walked along in Luke 24? Thursday Using any resource (including the internet), find at least five prophecies in the Old Testament about Jesus that came true with His life, death, and/or resurrection. Friday What did the Cleopas and his companion do as soon as they realized Jesus had risen from the dead? How can they inspire us to share that good news with others? Saturday Take some time today to read God’s word so that your “heart will burn within you.”

“Holy Heartburn!”

Luke 8:26-39 1 Kings 19:19-21 Luke 9:57-62

Leviticus 19:1-2, 9-18 1Corintians 3:10-23 Matthew 5:38-48

For on-going application of today’s message, please consider using the following questions throughout the week.

Luke 24:13-35

Just as Cleopas and his companion learned as they walked along the Road to Emmaus,

God’s word points to the truth of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

And just as He did for those two, Jesus

assures us of always being by our side even in the midst of doubt, despair, and

discouragement.

Luke 24:13-35
