Republic:The word originates from the Latin term respublica, which literally translates as "public

thing" or "public matter".

A republic is a government administered bythe people. One of the key principals is free

and open debate prior to casting a vote.(Recent: Barack Obama vs. John McCain)

1) Head of Stateknown as: President, Consul, Doge & Archon.

2) Role of religion (diminish the role of religion :basis of free culture, no uniform religion).Republics that are fiercely anti-religious: China,

North Korea, Soviet Republic & Vietnam.Some republics promote religion: Netherlands,Iran & monarchs in England (Henry VIII).

A republic in the modern understanding is anation or state where the people are

sovereign. It is not a monarchy, where the

king or queen is the head of state. By thisdefinition there are abundant examples of

states that are republics but not democracies,

and of states that are democracies but notrepublics.

Another characterization of a republic is itsemphasis on law and rule of the people

through elected representatives. In this senseit refers to the notion representativedemocracy, as one meaning of republic is asystem of restricted democracy.

Capitalist Republic

A capitalist republic is a concept of government completely thereverse of Marxist thought. National freedom and socialism weretreated as distinct stages in the goals that Republicans sought toachieve.

Constitutional Republic

A constitutional republic is a state where the head of state and

other officials are elected as representatives of the people. In aconstitutional republic, executive, legislative, and judicial powers areseparated into distinct branches and the will of the majority of thepopulation is tempered by protections for individual rights so that noindividual or group has absolute power.
