Elephant Talk

ELEPHANT TALK

September 2, 2016

Thank you for the wonderful opportunity

to represent the Oregon Federation of

Republican Women at our NFRW Annu-

al Board of Directors Meeting and the

opportunity to attend the RNC Biennial

National Convention. Without the con-

nections of OFRW, NFRW, ORP, RNC

and MCRCC I would have never been in

the position to take advantage of this opportunity. This was a

Wonderful and Fun Experience.

I wasn’t sure I even wanted to go – Cleveland? Hadn’t heard

much good about it. Our son lived there for a few years and he

didn’t have positive things to say. Old, hot, dark, dirty, run down,

crime – that’s all gone. They have done a major overhaul of this

town, torn buildings down and built a new refreshing modern look-

ing city with plenty to do. The City of Cleveland and the RNC put

together a program that was absolutely amazing. They had thou-

sands of police; from each of about thirty agencies around the

country. We had Birds in the air, Coast Guard in the water, Home-

land Security, ATS, TSA, dogs, horses, you name it. Armed

guards on every GOP Bus, day and night! I never felt safer.

After signing in and having breakfast every morning, the day’s

schedule was laid out. We made our way to the numbered and

color coded GOP buses for the 37-mile trip down town to the

Quicken Loan Arena where the convention meetings were held. Or

to one of the extracurricular activities the ORP had planned for us.

We could explore on our own or go to the Greater Cleveland

Aquarium on the shore of Lake Erie, the beautiful Stan Hywet Hall

and the Gardens Estate (Butterfly Habitat) The Habitat was fasci-

nating for those who have never seen all stages of Butterfly devel-

opment and actually get to feed them. You could go on a train ride

through Ohio’s only National Park on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic

Railroad. On all of these trips, lunches and admissions were host-

ed by the Oregon Republican Party.

The first night before the convention began, the ORP/RNC/CLE

hosted a night of museums, dining and music. The Rock and Roll

Hall of Fame & Museum is where I spent most of my time that

evening. The Great Lakes Science Center and Cleveland Metro

parks Zoo were all free for convention goers. Plus, they had a row

of food carts stretching for almost two blocks. There were all kinds

of food that was free for the attendees.

On Tuesday, NFRW women attending the convention, were invit-

ed to a lovely Welcome Tea hosted by the Ohio FRW at Play-

house Square. Congresswoman Michelle Bachman was one of the

attendees.

By OFRW President—Jan Williamson

The NFRW Annual Board of Directors Meeting started at the

same location. Highlighted here was a choreographed video

of President Carrie Almond and Reagan’s highlights on the

campaign trail. Many happy faces and lots of red, white and

blue. Becky Johnson said, “Never in her 61 years has she

been more proud!” They passed out a report on ‘Rosie’s Jour-

ney. She had at that time Traveled 11,000 miles; Visited 23

states; Attended 82 events, Seen 76 towns; Had $8,000 of

free media coverage; Received pledges of $12,500, and Tre-

mendous Attendance. We’ve added twenty new clubs this

year and a number of new Regents and Capitol Regents. We

have received for 2016, a new set of Standing rules of Order

& Special Rules of Order. There are a total of 5 New Resolu-

tions this year at the Spring Board Meeting. There were no

resolutions at the Meeting in Cleveland. You may read the 5

new Resolutions on the OFRW web site. The Oregon Federa-

tion had at least ten members attending or seated at the con-

vention

The Convention was fantastic!! It was all color and energy,

enthusiasm and exuberance. My traveling companion and

roommate, Ande Hoffman on Sunday evening, got herself

elected as the last seated Alternate Delegate due to someone

not attending. We were so happy for her and I am so glad I

got to be at this Historic Convention.

I have found it difficult to walk and get around and so many

people were my Angels and I would like to thank Ande Hoff-

man, Carl Thatcher, Kevin Moss, Rep. Bill Post, Margie and

Mickey Hughes, and Mark Callahan for coming to my aid.

Bless them all.

The convention, the speakers were all great. Just being in

that building at such a time was terrific… People passing me

in the hall were smiling at me – maybe because I had a big

smile on my face. The balloon drop was spectacular!! You

all made it great. Special Thanks to my husband for letting

me go; knowing I would have a hard time…

All the Best,

Jan

What the Left doesn't know— WOMEN’S SUFFRAGE Editor’s Note—A young Woman Democrat thought she knew everything about Women Getting the Vote, Until she read this…...Our Kids are not being taught properly...It is up to us to teach or Children and Grand-children. President Wilson was not for Suffrage until he had a Republican Majority in his Second Term.

The Republican Party pioneered the right of women to vote and was consistent in its support throughout the long campaign for acceptance. It was the first major party to advocate equal rights for women and the prin-ciple of equal pay for equal work. The Women’s Rights Convention held in Seneca Falls, N.Y., in 1848 marked the beginning of the women’s suf-frage movement in the United States. Two years later there was a nationwide meeting in Worcester, Mass. By 1870, the Massachusetts Republican State Convention had already seated two suffragettes, Lucy Stone and Mary A. Livermore, as delegates. In addition, the National Repub-lican Convention of 1872 approved a resolution favoring the admission of women to “wider fields of usefulness” and added that “the honest demand of this class of citizens for additional rights … should be treated with respectful consid-eration.” Wyoming, the state that pioneered women’s suffrage, sent two women, Therese A. Jenkins and Cora G. Carleton, to the 1892 Republican Convention in Minneapolis as alter-nate delegates. This was the first time women were seated at a Republican National Convention. This convention was also the first to be addressed by a woman, J. Ellen Foster, chairman of the Women’s Republi-can Association of the United States. A strong believer in organization, Foster said her association had prepared work plans for women’s involvement in national politics. Copies were given to each delegate and alternate. “We are here to help you,” she declared, “and we are here to stay.” At the request of Susan B. Anthony, Sen. A.A. Sargent, a Republican from California, introduced the 19th Amend-ment in 1878. Sargent’s amendment (also known as the Susan B. Anthony Amendment) was defeated four times by a Democrat-controlled Senate. When the Republican Party regained control of Congress in 1919, the Equal Suffrage Amendment finally passed the House in May of that year and in the Senate in June. When the Amendment was submitted to the states, 26 of the 36 states that ratified it had Republican legislatures. Of the nine states that voted against ratification, eight were Democratic. Twelve states, all Republican, had given wom-en full suffrage before the federal amendment was ratified. On August 18, 1920, Tennessee became the 36th and final state needed to ratify the amendment. The U.S. Secretary of State certified the amendment on Aug. 26, 1920.

CARING FOR AMERICA…...

OFRW President Jan Williamson has Designated the Louisiana Flood as the OFRW Caring for America Program for 2016.

LOUISIANA FLOOD—As Reported in the Washington Post….

BATON ROUGE — Five days into this disaster, adrenaline is giving

way to exhaustion and — for many of those who left their homes

amid rising water — a constant, churning anxiety about the future.

Thousands are still holed up in shelters or at friends’ houses on high

ground, relying on Facebook videos and word-of-mouth for an an-

swer to the question on everyone’s tongues: How bad is the dam-

age?

“We still don’t know the state of our house,” said Justin Sylvest, 21,

who lives with his girlfriend and their 11-month-old in Denham

Springs, a town east of Baton Rouge that was among the hardest

hit.

The three of them had been staying since Sunday at an emergency

shelter on the vast grounds of the Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gon-

zales, southeast of Baton Rouge. Sylvest said the shelter had pro-

vided everything his family needed, starting with formula for the baby

and clean clothes.

But a shelter’s still a shelter, a gymnasium lined with cots with no

personal space or guaranteed quiet — all the more difficult for a

young father who isn’t sure whether his family has a place to live or a

way to pay the bills. He said he hadn’t slept much.

“I don’t even know when I’ll be able to go to work,” Sylvest said, tak-

ing a drag on a cigarette. “It’s going to be a lot getting back to nor-

mal.”

NFRW President Carrie Almond sent out an SOS this week, urg-

ing NFRW members pull together to aid members in Louisiana

impacted by the floods that have devastated major parts of the

state. Approximately one-third of the members of the Louisiana Fed-

eration live in flooded areas. "Right now we have sisters and their

families who are in need of shelter, food, medicine and clothing.

Take a minute to make a difference," Almond urged.

For the Washington Post editorial board, nothing about Donald

Trump's immigration positions—his determination to enforce

United States immigration laws, his focus on American workers,

his commitment to stopping President Obama's unconstitutional

executive actions—makes much sense. (Amusingly, the Post

calls such positions "un-American.") But one thing that really seems to confound the paper is why

Trump would choose to prioritize the deportations of those who

overstay their visas. The Post writes, "Just why Mr. Trump would prioritize visa-over

stayers for deportation, and not those who entered the country

illegally in the first place, is unexplained. Logic is hardly the point

of his policy." (The actual point of his policy, as the Post helpfully

explains with both reasonableness and nuance, is to throw "red

meat to the xenophobes in [the GOP] base" and "whip his sup-

porters into a froth of nativist agitation" by launching "a crusade

of mass deportations" while "playing on hatred.") In truth, Trump's immigration proposals are quite logical and sen-

sible. What's more, his emphasis on those who overstay their

visas is subtly shrewd. So long as the discussion is focused on

those who came across the border illegally, the point at which

the laws were broken was at the border, and the clear fix is to

secure the border going forward (which almost all politicians say

they are committed to doing but few actually are). One can plau-

sibly (or almost plausibly) claim to be for enforcing the law—by

securing the border—without being in favor of deporting those

who are already here. Trump: There Will Be No Amnesty

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is reaffirming

that people in the U.S. illegally cannot receive legal status, de-

spite recently suggesting he might be softening his stance on

immigration. (Aug. 31) Associated Press By shifting the discussion to visa-overstays, however, Trump and

his team are making the question of interior law enforcement

unavoidable. When the discussion turns to those who overstay

their visas, liberals and libertarians either have to admit that inte-

rior law enforcement is necessary, or else they have to admit that

they view the expiration dates on visas as mere recommenda-

tions—which means admitting that these visas are really lifelong

passes.

After all, such visa-holders came here legally. The problem of

their having overstayed their visas can't be fixed by securing the

border. Interior law enforcement is required as well.

Emphasizing those who overstayed their visas highlights the

need for interior law enforcement in a way—or to a degree—that

emphasizing those who came here illegally does not. In doing so,

it puts the open-borders crowd on the defensive—and the Post

isn't pleased about that.

A subversive political movement has been quietly

teaching their beliefs in many of our schools for

years.

This movement is now taking steps to expand their reach by establishing a national political indoctrination program to impose their political agenda on students throughout the school system. This indoctrination pro-gram would reach children wherever they live and would include charter, private and home school situations.

History reminds us of what can happen when a political movement is allowed to use education as a tool to politically indoctrinate (brainwash) innocent chil-dren. Hindsight is 20/20. We have the choice, the power and the opportunity to learn, to take action and to stop the political indoctrination of our children. The idea of No Child Left Inside is one of the main tools this movement is using to slip their agenda into our schools. Current steps to impose this agen-da begin with the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. The Elementary and Secondary Education Act is the federal legis-lation that directs the course of elementary and secondary education in America. This legislation was recently reauthorized and the new version, the Every Student Succeeds Act (S.1177), was signed into law by President Obama on December 10, 2015. During the reauthorization process, goals from another piece of legislation, the proposed No Child Left Inside Act of 2015, were inserted into the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) due to the efforts of this political movement. Congressman John Sarbanes, author of the No Child Left Inside Act, released a victory statement regarding the pas-sage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) which included the following: “The environmental education provision contained in ESSA comes from the No Child Left Inside Act (NCLI), a bipartisan bill authored by Con-gressman Sarbanes that is designed to enhance American students’ environmental literacy.” Inserting No Child Left Inside goals for environmental education and environ-mental literacy into the ESSA enables this movement to create the false im-pression that 1) they have a federal mandate for states to teach this curricu-lum and, 2) the curriculum attached to teaching these subjects has been ap-proved by Democrats and Republicans at the federal level. Curriculum Not Scrutinized: In the rush to pass the ESSA, the curricu-lum attached to teaching No Child Left Inside goals was not thoroughly scruti-nized to ensure the intended outcomes were understood and the content would not unfairly influence the education of America’s children. No Child Left Inside: Imposing Goals of a Political Movement Congress-man John Sarbanes has stated the No Child Left Inside Act “is the arm of an advocacy movement”. In other words, the No Child Left Inside Act is the arm of a political movement. The purpose of this legislation and this curriculum is to impose the agenda of that movement on our children. The following state-ment from the No Child Left Inside Act reveals how this movement is infusing their agenda into our schools: “Forty-eight States have developed, or are in the process of developing, environmental literacy plans to effectively integrate environmental edu-cation into the prekindergarten through grade 12 curriculum and ensure that students graduate from high school environmentally literate.” How many people in those 48 states realize No Child Left Inside is “the arm” of a political movement and environmental literacy plans are being used to integrate the goals of that movement into our schools? Take away the envi-ronmental language and the political goals come to light: 1) target children in prekindergarten. Start molding the behavior of

children attending preschool by using simple messages that align their little hearts and minds with this movement’s beliefs.

2) integrate the political goals of this movement into the curriculum as

the way to a) teach the political beliefs of this movement as part of factu-al learning in multiple subject areas, b) require students to study those political beliefs from prekindergarten all the way through the 12th grade, c) pressure students to apply those political beliefs in school and in their personal lives, d) change the purpose of education to brainwash-ing and train students to adopt one political mindset.

STOP THE POLITICAL INDOCTRINATION OF AMERICA'S CHILDREN by Holly Swanson

3) ensure students graduate with this movement’s mindset by a) pass laws that force schools to teach this movement’s mind-set as curriculum and, b) create a new sub-ject area and a new graduation requirement based on this movement’s mindset. This would force students to demonstrate profi-ciency in this mindset in order to graduate. This camouflages steps to politically indoctri-nate our children, America’s future voters, to support the revolutionary goals of this move-ment. This plan to target children, politicize the curriculum and brainwash students to adopt one political mindset, is how communist countries impose their agenda and train students to submit to their one-way of thinking. Many Americans, including supporters of environmental education, do not realize that this political movement has changed the meaning and the purpose of environmental education to advance a political agenda. What is the End Game? Extensive documentation in the book Training for Treason confirms the beliefs and goals attached to environmental education and envi-ronmental literacy are directly aligned with the political agenda of the Education for Sustainability movement and that agenda mirrors Green Party goals and communism. This is the political agenda of the movement behind environmental education. This movement is on a fast track to slip their communist model of education into place by making their political agenda, their definition of environmental literacy and environmental education, the new foundation of all learning and practice in America’s schools. Is this the purpose of American education? We Have a Choice: Environmental literacy plans (developed or being developed in 48 states) are a key part of this movement’s strategy to establish a na-tional political indoctrination program in short order. The Oregon Envi-ronmental Literacy Plan is a good example of how the political beliefs of this movement are presented. It is vitally important to understand, as Congressman Greg Walden points out in the following statement, we have a choice: “Oregon’s classrooms are no place for politicized instruction of our children mandated by the federal government. Congress recently passed a new law, the Every Student Succeeds Act, to explicitly pre-vent the federal government from mandating or coercing states into adopting any standards or curriculum, including ‘environmental litera-cy.’ I will continue working to reduce the federal footprint in our schools and keep politically motivated teaching out of the classroom.” Congressman Greg Walden (R-OR) “Politicized instruction” and “politically motivated teaching” do not belong in our schools. We have the choice, power and oppor-tunity to stop the political indoctrination of our children and re-turn our schools to safe havens of learning. A Presidential Issue: Addressing the issue of political indoctrination in America’s schools ought to be one of the top issues in the Presidential race based on the revolutionary agenda of this political movement and, because the current administration and the US Department of Education are pro-moting ideas and curriculum that align with the agenda of this political movement. We need to know where the candidates running for nation-al, state and local office stand on this issue. Preserving free thought, individual freedom and the democratic pro-cess requires immediate and responsible steps to suspend, scrutinize and remove this movement’s politicized curriculum from our schools. If we are not FOR political indoctrination then we need to work together and stop political indoctrination. This is a call to action. To learn more read Training for Treason. To order call: 1-877-715-5481. To find out what you can do to help stop the indoctrination of America’s children, email We Choose Freedom <[email protected] © 2016 Holly Swanson - All Rights Reserved The above is a condensed version of Holly Swanson’s latest article. THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

IS A FEDERAL REPUBLIC….

We are not a DEMOCRACY.

BELOW IS A SHORT VERSION OF THE

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TRUE

DEMOCRACY AND A REPUBLIC

Both a Democracy and a Republic use representa-

tional forms of government. In a pure democracy,

the majority vote decides the outcome of laws and

initiatives. In a republic, the government is con-

strained by the limitations placed on it through a

constitution or charter. The term democracy is of-

ten confused with the representative democracy

used in the United States. The United States is a

republic, and its elected officials are bound by the

protections of the constitution.

They vote "democratically" to create laws, but no

matter how great the majority, they still must up-

hold constitutionally protected rights. Changing the

constitution is difficult and can only be done

through amendments to the constitution. To further

protect against the threat of tyranny, the govern-

mental powers are divided into separate branches.

In direct democracies, there is no constitutional

protection in place, and the majority vote can over-

ride any law.

Editor’s note: You would be surprised how many

of our own do not know the difference and call

America a Democracy…..
