Sex Cells To reproduce, living things

make special sex cells. In the male these sex cells are called sperm cells or sperms and in the female they are called egg cells or eggs.

Egg cells are produced by female in special organs called ovaries (ovary).

People reproduce by giving birth to their offspring alive   Reproduction requires two sexes, the male and the female, to produce

special sex cells. The sex cell of the male is the sperm and the sex cell of the female is the

egg. Those cells can be produced when people have been matured in sexual hormonal called puberty

Sperm cells are microscopic. Sperm cells are made by the organ called the

testis in the male.

The egg cells are larger than the sperm cells, they do not have a tail and they are not usually produced in large numbers.

The egg cells are made by the organ called the ovary in the female.

Mating and Fertilization

When the male and female come together to reproduce this is called mating.

The egg cell of the female is fertilized by fusing with a sperm cell from the male.

External and internal Fertilization

The egg cells and sperm cells may meet outside the body of the female in water - this is called external fertilization – or

the sex cells may meet inside the female - this is called internal fertilization.  How about human?

OK, so it's a funny word — but what is puberty, anyway? Puberty (say: pyoo-ber-tee) is the name for the time when your body begins to develop and change as you move from kid to adult. We're talking about stuff like girls developing breasts and boys starting to look more like men. During puberty, your body will grow faster than at any other time in your life, except for when you were a baby.

Think!

Why do we have to study puberty? Is it something scary to be understood?Do all people recognize their puberty

phase?

What is Puberty?

Puberty is….

This process can take a year or even six years.

This time period is when a child's body takes on those characteristics that define it sexually.

Both males and females bodies will each take on a different shape.

As emotionally side, you are no longer a child, but you are not an adult yet either.

What Causes All These Changes?

Hormones cause these changes. These hormones stimulate the ovaries of girls to

produce other hormones called estrogen and progesterone, and the testes of boys to produce testosterone.

Growth hormones are also stimulated—they make the body grow larger; sometimes very quickly. Arms and legs get longer and internal body organs get larger. Your body is experiencing a major growth surge. This surge lasts about two to three years.
