Report to the Community 2016-17

Clatsop Community College Commencement 2017

Message from the President

Good things are happening across our campuses! Perhaps the most visible is the opening of Patriot

Hall. Your support of the bond measure that helped to complete Patriot Hall is paying dividends

already. This facility is a state of the art building that provides a space our community can use for all

kinds of learning opportunities from traditional classes to meetings and conferences as well as the

option to take a community fitness class. Patriot Hall is a place to strengthen the mind and body.

Less visible, but equally important has been the development of the Clatsop Community College

strategic plan. This past year the CCC team focused intensely on improving what we do and how we

do it.

We adopted a new mission that succinctly and eloquently defines our purpose. “Enriching Lives, Inspiring Learning, Creating Opportunities” these six words will guide us as we continue to serve you, the citizens of Clatsop county.

Our new vision statement “As a leader in education, CCC will partner with the community in creating gateways for transformation” reflects our desire to be force for change within our community.

The new mission and vision has been the driving force behind our strategic planning process. As we near the end of this work we can visualize the path to success over the next five years.

In addition to our strategic planning work, preparations are underway for our accreditation visit in

2019. Accreditation is important process where we reflect on our policies, procedures, and

practices and demonstrate that we are effective in meeting our community’s educational needs. We

are looking forward to this process and the positive change that will result from it.

There are so many more things to share with you. As you read through the report I am sure you will

see many more examples of the positive impact that Clatsop Community College has on our home,

here on the North Coast. Please enjoy the report and let me know if you have questions.

Sincerely,

Chris Breitmeyer

Senator Betsy Johnson helps with the cutting of the caution tape at the grand opening.

Clatsop Community College held the grand opening for Patriot Hall September 19, 2017. The

community was invited to an opening ceremony that consisted of speakers including Senator

Betsy Johnson, Board Chair Karen Burke, and President Breitmeyer, followed by the official

first lap of the indoor running track and open house with games, a barbeque dinner, and

tours of the facility.

Students, employees, and community members all have access to utilize the fitness facilities

in the newly redeveloped building by registering through community education. The Bandit

Community Fitness Plan was created to allow community members to sign up to use the

facility while being respectful to area businesses that may offer similar fitness options.

Thanks to many generous donors, guests and volunteers the Clatsop Community College Foundation raised over $123,000 at its annual Arts & Experiences Dinner and Auction on Saturday, May 6. Approximately 200 patrons including community leaders, college representatives, artists and arts supporters from around the area joined the festivities at the Astoria Golf & Country Club to raise money for CCC student scholarships and equipment needs. The event featured silent and live auctions showcasing works of art provided by local and regional artists as well as multiple experience packages up for bid. The Special Appeal, an opportunity during the live auction for guests to make a 100% tax-deductible donation, was dedicated to student scholarships and generated over $37,000.
