Carrot River Economic Development

Executive Committee Meeting January 2018

2019 begins with the exit of 1 Board member and the introduction of 2. - Rob Shmyr made the decision to step down after serving since the inception of Carrot River

Economic Development when CRED began as a Committee in the fall of 2007. It then went on to become a working Board approved and funded by the Town of Carrot River and the RM of Moose Range #486 in January 2009. In Chairman Kevin Mazurek’s words, “Rob brought a ‘grand’ outlook on Carrot River and area. His effervescence and enthusiastic views were contagious and helped us achieve and maintain momentum behind some of the main goals we have accomplished.” Rob’s full-time position on the Board will be greatly missed. However, he has agreed to remain as an ad hoc member, so we will continue to benefit from his input in future planning and his ability to see the vast potential in our community.

- Marcy Friesen is a local resident who joined CRED as of January 2019. She began a home-based business she was passionate about in November 2015 as a sideline income to her position as Executive Superintendant for KidsFirst in Nipawin SK. With the growth of her entrepreneurial success, she made the decision to go full time in November 2017 with Trapline Creations, handmade fur and leather product. Marcy has many certificates to her name, many of them relating to her previous employment in regards to suicide and FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder). Her background and experience are a strong backbone for family support and growth which in turn is crucial to community support and growth.

- Evan Wolowski joined the Board as of January 2019. Evan grew up on a farm in the RM of

Moose Range. He is currently employed as Maintenance Planner at Edgewood Forest Products (sawmill) and he farms as well. As forestry and agriculture are two of the major industries and supporters of our local economy, his perspective on economic development for the community and region will be a definite asset. Evan is an EIT, Engineer in Training, for agricultural and bio resource engineering with the University of Saskatchewan. As well to note, he holds a design patent for his work on an air drill by name of Aircart Seed Meter.

- Marcy and Evan have already attended their first meeting, and it is immediately obvious

they are a good fit and will be a valuable asset to the CRED Board.

With the new year just underway, and further to approval of their proposed 2019 budget submitted to the Town of Carrot River for approval, CRED will continue to roll out future planning objectives.
