Outback clubs and outings have been taking shape since winter as informal initiatives by & for locals to get out and experience ‘that’s life here’ for ourselves; activities such as cross country skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, boating & fishing, and back country hiking & camping.

Community Square: Wiebe Construction was chosen from tender applications for the pavilion and progress is complete other than the addition of a wheelchair-accessible ramp or lift which is still under research; the project was completed just prior to the Family Festival which was the first event to utilize the pavilion; this amenity completes Phase III of the project and is already seen to be the focal point of the Square and will be the hub for outdoor downtown entertainment.

Administrator’s Report Thursday, June 21, 2018

Kevin Trew Human Resources:

Administrator Sick/Vacation/TIL report – I took 0 days medical/sick leave and 2 days vacation since the last meeting, I will be taking a week off in July

Pat Flegg is back at work, summer vacation calendar is not up yet, but will be shortly

We are recommending the hiring of 2 summer students – 1 for Public Works – Kyle Blaber and .53 position Office – Tianna Schmaltz

Fire Chief – The ad has been out for some time and we have 4 applications so far – the deadline for applications is the end of June

Ongoing Projects: Subdivision – Information Services has now approved the certificate and the subdivision of properties along with Town ownership of all

lots is now complete, I am awaiting Brennen’s word regarding the next step

PDAP – We received approximately $17,000 from PDAP for the 2016 flood. There were almost $50,000 in approved expenditures, the deductible was subtracted prior to payment

Community Square Stage Roof – I am very pleased with the roof and the use of it at the Family Festival – once all invoices are in, we will be able to see how much money is left over to install steps, a landing and possibly a lift

Overnight RV Park – The power and water as well as sewer are now in place, we have landscaping left to do – the sites will be useable next week, however they are not complete. Once work is complete I will discuss with Council rates for the new sites. With this, do I now have permission to advertise the property at the former campground for sale for residential development?

Community Hall Kitchen Renovation – I have met with Regan Livermore to put together a design for the kitchen area, so that we can look at and then make modifications to – I would like to put together a hall committee of local residents to go over these plans and give some feedback – hoping to have one member of each Council on this committee as well

Capital Items – We are working on a plan to move the power line away from the west side of the Community Centre along with moving the line from the north side. This would facilitate getting water and snow away from the building and creating a grade for better drainage. This also would work great with the land tile project at the ball diamonds that should take place in August. Milton, Pat and I are working on this.

The calls for tender for the Third Avenue sewer and water project and the Railway Storm Sewer project are out now and the deadline for submission is June 27. There has been a lot of interest in both projects

Asset Management – I have presented a draft policy and strategy for your approval, we are involved in a pilot project with Marmak from Ontario regarding software – the student and I will be using this shortly

Special Meeting of Council – Review of Mid Year State of Finances (capital and operational) as well as discussion regarding loan needed for Capital Projects, I would like to schedule this for the week of July 23 - 27

Land purchase – Enns – We have received the signed memorandum of agreement and are now submitting the application for subdivision to Community Planning.

Snow Dump – I have discussed this with Orin Gaja and sent an email to the RM of Moose Range and Moose Range C and D for their input

Crosswalk – The Ministry of Highways has contracted this with Isles Electric Company and they will be completing the project shortly, including trimming some of Vicki McShannock’s tree

New Projects: 2018 Tax Collection is coming along as per normal – a few of the arrears from 2017 paid both years’ taxes at once, but there are still a

number in arrears

Permit Applications (Approved denotes both Administrator and Building Official Approval)

2018-02 Garage at 528 Parkdale Street – Approved
