Dr. Linda Abriola - United States Science Envoy visited Kathmandu University (KU) on 19th

August 2016, Friday with the delegation team from United States Department and AmericanEmbassy, Kathmandu. The visiting delegation comprised of;

As per the February 26,2016 Media Note from Office of the Spokesperson - Washington DC, Prof.Dr Linda Abriola is one of the five eminent scientists commencing service as United States ScienceEnvoys from February 2016. Dr. Abriola is a professor at Tufts University and former dean of theTufts University School of Engineering. She is a fellow of the American Geophysical Union and amember of both the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy ofEngineering. As a Science Envoy, Dr. Abriola will focus on science, technology, engineering, andmathematics (STEM) education and engineering in the Middle East and North Africa and South andCentral Asia.

During the visit, Dr. Abriola and team of delegates held interaction meetings with senior officials,women faculty members and presentation to faculty and staffs of KU.

Meeting at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Kathmandu University

The visiting delegate held its first meeting with high level officials of Kathmandu University. Themeeting was attended by the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Controller of Examination and Deans fromSchool of Science and Engineering and senior faculty members from KU. The meeting mainlyshared the U.S Science Envoy mission in South Asia and academic activities at KU.

The visiting delegate team conducted special meeting with women faculties of KU. The meeting wasmainly focused to discuss opportunities and challenges for women faculty working in the sector ofscience and technology.

Presentation to staff and faculty by Dr. Abriola

Dr. Abriola delivered a presentation to faculty and students of KU at Senate Hall. The presentationtopic was ‘Attracting and Retaining Women in Engineering and Physical Sciences’ The presentationshared key information on women working in science and technology in US, K-12 partnershipinitiated by Tuft University and retaining strategies of women academician.

Later, the delegation team visited laboratories at School of Engineering, Science and MedicalSciences.
