Cutting Instructions

Fabric Fabric

Some of the fabrics are directional. In order for the prints on each set of 4 geese to face in the same direction, you are being instructed to cut twice as many of those fabrics and their pairing. The number in parenthesis is the amount you need to cut if you do not mind the direction of your fabric, or you are not working with directional fabric.

Step 1: Make the Geese Units

Match up your fabrics based on the pattern illustration on page 1.

Each set of 4 geese will needone 7 1/4” square (for the center of the geese) and four 3 7/8” squares (for the sides).

For directional fabrics you will have a second set of one large square and four small squares.

Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of all 4 smaller squares using a pencil.

Pin 2 small squares to the large square, right sides together, as pictured in photo.

Sew along either side of the pencil line, using a scant 1/4” seam allowance.

Cut along the pencil line.

Press flat, with seam allowance towards the smaller triangles.

Pin your remaining 3 7/8” squares, right sides together, to each sewn unit as pictured (note position of pencil line).

Sew along either side of the pencil line using a scant 1/4” seam allowance.

Cut along pencil line.

Press flat and square to 3 1/2” x 6 1/2” by using a Bloc Loc Ruler or Quilter’s ruler.

You will now have 4 flying geese units.

Repeat Step 1 on all remaining squares.

Step 2: Piecing the Quilt Top

Sew two matching geese units together as pictured. Press seam allownce in the direction of arrow.

Repeat for all geese units.

Sew together into rows, pressing seams open, and then sew rows together to complete your top.

Baste, quilt, bind and enjoy.

Use your leftover flying geese units on the back, or for matching pillows!
