There were some bullying cases especially in Sec ones. We wanted to create a lesson whereby students are made aware of bullying and the effects and consequences of bullying. We wanted students to know that bullying is no fun and is a painful feeling to be bullied.

1. To set up a booth in the canteen and have some articles and brochures on bullying and distribute to students.

2. To create a worksheet on bullying and to distribute to all secondary one classes and get them to do and discuss the worksheet with their teachers.

Our final decision was to come up with a worksheet that reflects the different forms of bullying and also have some reflection questions. This will allow the students to talk and be aware of the harmful effects of bullying and even the different forms of bullying. We printed the worksheets for 8 Secondary One classes, which is for about 320 students. The best reflection entries were chosen and given some little chocolates for their involvement. Basically the students wrote that they are more aware of bullying and will try to stop bullying their classmates in school. Based on the teachers, there were about 3 students from each class who shared that they have bullied or have been bullied. They were then asked about whether what they did was right? Some of the quotes from students who have been involved in bullying incidents were”Now I understand I was in the wrong when I threw someone’s bag into the bin to disturb him” from JunTing class 1-4. Another student, James, said that he is “now better aware of the different forms of bullying” and how “it is painful for the person being bullied”. How it impacted myself is that it allowed me to feel proud of myself as we came up with an activity to educate the secondary one students.
