How to use Config 3900 software

After double clicking the REGARD 3900 icon on the desktop the opening (default) screen is shown below.

Screen shot 1. The left window box shows the default setting of a control panel having four 4..20mA modules. The first module has its channels (CH1 to CH4) expanded. The right window box shows the details for channel one. At this stage the configuration PC is standalone and is not connected to an operational REGARD 3900.

Along the top of the tool bar we see the four words File, Configure , Language and Help. These are explained as follows File – (see screen shot 2)

• Open – allows a preconfigured file to be opened from a storage device i.e. hard drive

• Save – allows the opened configuration to be saved but with the option to give a new file name, location etc

• Save As – allows the opened configuration file to be saved, but with the option to give a new file name, location etc

• Print – prints the configuration even if ‘cancel’ is selected • Print Setup – allows the printer options to be selected without printing • Exit – closes the program, but first prompts to Save if not already Saved. If no

alterations have been made then ‘Exit’ will not prompt ‘Save’.

Configure – (see screen shots 3, 4, 5 and 6) Note 1: A RS232 CAN interface cable (4208785) is required to connect the PC with the REGARD 3900

• Send PC configuration to REGARD 3900 – this function uploads the entire configuration from the PC to the REGARD 3900 control unit (see Note 1 above).

• Receive configuration from REGARD 3900 – this function downloads the entire configuration of the REGARD 3900 into the PC (see Note 1 above).

• Compare system configuration to program – this function allows a comparison between the PC configuration file and that of the installed REGARD 3900. The differences will toggle; Blue bold text indicates system configuration whereas Black bold text indicates PC configuration.

• New configuration – this function allows a new configuration to begin. A second pop-up window (see screen shot 4) will allow the choice of modules before configuration commences. No connection to a REGARD 3900 is required.

• Copy Gas Channels – this function allows any configured channel to be copied and pasted into another channel allocation (see screen shot 5). No connection to a REGARD 3900 is required.

• Add New Board – this function allows new modules to be configured and the configuration stored ready for uploading into a REGARD 3900 (see screen shot 6).

From the drop down menu select the channel which is to be copied.

Screen shot 5. Select which channels the copied configuration is to be pasted. More than one channel can be selected at any one time. The RED square indicates where it is not possible to copy channel configuration too.

Screen shot 6. When this function is chosen there must be a spare capacity within the configuration file or REGARD 3900. Otherwise the drop down menus will be ‘greyed out’ to represent no further configuration possible. If spare capacity exists within the configuration file then refer to screen shot 4 above and follow the instruction given there.

Adding into the system two relay boards (using the ‘New Configuration’ function) the following pages explain the function and configuration of each relay parameter.

Screen shot 14. The Explorer menu now shows two relay modules. Each relay module is expanded to show relays 1 to 16. Relay 1 has been selected. The first relay of each relay module is not configurable, therefore remains as a fail-safe, energised relay.

No configuration allowed for the first relay of each relay module.
