Glensilva is located towards the very end of a no-through road in an exclusive and tranquil setting directly fronting Falmouth’s outer harbour. Flushing is a very attractive and unspoilt waterside village, its fishing quays fronting the eastern side of Falmouth’s inner harbour, one of the deepest natural harbours in the world. Local facilities include a sub post office/general store, two public houses, a popular restaurant on the quay, junior school, church and chapel. There is also a regular passenger ferry service providing direct and easy access to Falmouth, landing at the Prince of Wales pier. Sailing enthusiasts are well catered for with an active and popular local sailing club literally a few minutes’ walk from the property and there are neighbouring sailing clubs and associated facilities at Mylor, Restronguet and the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, across the water at Greenbank in Falmouth. The Fal estuary is justifiably renowned as a sailing centre and there are many miles of beautiful water within the estuary, including the creeks of the Truro, Fal and Percuil Rivers, providing some of the finest day sailing waters in the country. The house is approached through a gated entrance with the driveway providing parking for numerous cars and giving access to the detached garage block and workshop, which is to the rear of the house. Glensilva was, we understand, originally constructed in 1894 and has been in our clients’ ownership since 1997. The house is principally of stone construction under a slated roof with granite mullions and tall chimneys and of particular note is the tall stained glass window dominating the northern elevation and allowing plenty of light for the magnificent galleried dining hall. Spanning the entire width of the harbourside elevation is a huge raised paved terrace, facing out over the garden from which steps descend to the beautifully maintained established and mature gardens which again enjoy the captivating views. It is only upon entering the house that the style and character of the beautifully proportioned rooms can be fully appreciated. From the entrance vestibule, with cloak room off, double doors open into a spectacular 24’8” x 18’ galleried dining hall with 25’ high ceiling and attractive turning staircase ascending to the first floor.
