As part of your personalised learning plan, you have the option to take one-to-one lessons. These can include work on vocabulary, idioms or pronunciation and can be ideal before exams, job interviews or university interviews. (Please note, one-to-one lessons may not be available during high season)

Your own progress will depend on the length and intensity of your course, the level at which you are currently studying, as well as your own personal ability and motivation.

3Checking

your progress

Placement test on your first day, using our system of 8 fluency bands (see below).

We’ll help you plan how long you need to study to reach the level you’re aiming for — typically, students progress one Kings level every 8 – 12 weeks.

You’ll have a weekly test as well as formal progress tests every 6 weeks. We’ll give you assignments and projects to help you keep learning outside of class. There will be close interaction with your teachers at all times.

Core English developmentAll our courses are based on development of core English skills. This is the foundation on which you can build your own unique outcome. Whichever course you take, you will develop fluency and understanding across the four main areas of English:

Once you’ve mastered these skills, you can use them to develop specialist knowledge for professional success, exam success or university success.

We offer two ways to achieve your own outcome.

Reading

Speaking

Listening

Writing

1. Custom-builtBook a “core” Intensive Course or Diploma of English and then add your choice of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to customise your outcome. These are individual subject modules which are divided into the four main outcome pathways. Once your course starts you can decide your SIGs from the selection available at your chosen location. See pages 64 – 65

2. Ready-madeBook a specialist “ready-made” course which has been pre-designed to focus on your intended outcome — whether professional, exam, or university success. See pages 68 – 87

Intensive Course

Intensive 25+

Diploma of English

Maximise your fluency and experience: Study long-term As well as the extra benefits you get by booking longer, you will also gain much more with a long-term Intensive Course or the Diploma of English.

1. Greater fluency in English: You’ll develop much broader and deeper skills in all the main areas of the language — speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

2. More cost-effective: The longer you study, the cheaper your weekly course price becomes.

3. Complete cultural immersion: You’ll have the time to feel completely at home in the UK or USA, getting an inside view of the language and culture.

4. Follow special interest subjects: You’ll be able to extend your learning with a choice of Specialist Interest Groups (see pages 64 – 65).

5. Study in more than one location: You could study at more than one Kings location, giving you the chance to live in two different cities.
