Barracuda showcases latest offerings at GISEC The firm is well-positioned to provide necessary protections through its portfolio of security products.

With the Middle East market focused on cybersecurity and web security, Barracuda participated at GISEC this year as it is a platform focused on cyber threats and IOTx. The company showcased Barracuda Web application firewall, which helps users to secure apps on-premise and in the cloud, next-gen firewalls and Barracuda Essentials for Office 365.

Cyber threats are constantly evolving, which requires consumers to be especially

vigilant in preventing such attacks. Security analysts predict an average of 200 new variants of ransomware per quarter with no signs of slowing well into 2023.

Husni Hammoud, GM, Barracuda Networks Middle East and Turkey, said, “Protecting yourself from a vulnerability through one of these vectors is a good start, but without a comprehensive security strategy that secures all vectors, from all the advanced threats, you are almost certain to fall victim.”

According to an Osterman Research sponsored by Barracuda Networks, Phishing and ransomware are serious threats that can cause enormous damage to an organisation’s finances, data assets and reputation. Both phishing and ransomware are increasing at the rate of several hundred percent per quarter, a trend that will continue for at least the next 18 to 24 months.

“Barracuda is well-positioned to provide the necessary protection with its portfolio of security products, that are all protected with ‘Advanced Threat Protection’ technologies, that will remove all known and unknown threats. We provide a complete portfolio of solutions that work together to help you detect, prevent, and recover from ransomware attacks,” he added.

IoT Technology Advisory Service is a new consulting offer from Dell EMC Services to help organisations determine the key capabilities and architecture required to leverage IoT data.

The Linux Foundation recently launched EdgeX Foundry, an open source software project chartered to build a common framework and surrounding reference platform for edge computing. It will drive interoperability between proprietary value-added applications and existing connectivity standards.

Dell has carefully curated a group of IoT software and services partners through the

Dell IoT Solutions Partner and Dell EMC Partner Programmes. Many partners have deep, proven expertise in industry-specific IoT challenges, and can help with everything from managing multiprotocol data sources to security to analytics. New partners recently added to the programme include Analog Devices, Atos, Bosch, ForgeRock, IOTech, Mocana and Modius.

Dell Technologies offers a complete edge-to-core-to-cloud portfolio of infrastructure for IoT solutions that includes everything from infrastructure, embedded PCs, IoT gateways, security and manageability solutions and more.

Globally, the software-defined data centre (SDDC) market is expected to grow from $25 billion in 2016 to over $80 billion by 2021. With the Middle East and Africa market size expected to be around $5 billion plus, there is no doubt about the opportunity present for the regional players.

In order to seize the market prospects, partners have to make investments in the right areas. Customers are moving from siloes and embracing an architecture, which is primarily software-defined on commoditised hardware. Accordingly, partners need to develop competencies across the different blocks of SDDC, namely software-defined compute (SDC), software-defined networking (SDN), software-defined storage (SDS) and so on. Partners should especially gear their business and equip themselves with the expertise to sell SDN solutions, as it is expected to be the highest growth category within SDDC. In fact, SDN as a category is expected to grow even faster than the rate at which the server virtualisation market grew during its early adoption days as a technology.

Redington has developed competencies in-house in each of these areas. We have also made significant investment in building a state of the art solution centre with entire stack deployed in the data centre. Although there will be a massive growth in the SDDC space over the coming years, the challenge is the lack of sufficient skillsets to leverage these opportunities. This might create a supply side gap and a capacity issue.

Partners must look at strengthening their portfolio in this space and develop skills with immediate effect, as early investors in this area will reap tremendous benefits over time.

event was to communicate to the partner base about the firm’s new ICT solutions. With digital transformation becoming the key priority for enterprises across the region, it is paramount for channel partners to be able to support their customers’ journey into the new era.

The 75-plus attendees in each city were educated on the company’s latest offerings, which will allow them to offer comprehensive solutions to their customers. Huawei executives also presented on how the partners could overcome the challenges that might arise while transacting in the digital era.

Traps unique approach preemptively stops attacks by blocking the techniques that attackers rely upon, including never-before-seen attacks.”

Traps employs a multi-method prevention approach to blocking both known and unknown malware as well as exploits before they compromise endpoints.

Despite increased investment in endpoint security, cyber adversaries continue to compromise endpoints at a rate that outpaces organisational investments. Legacy AV point products have made attempts to close this gap, but they have merely replaced one ineffective malware detection method with another without significantly advancing their ability to identify and prevent exploits and unknown malware.

The enhancements announced as part of Traps version 4.0

address these challenges, with the addition of support for macOS and Android (beta), plus several new prevention modules designed to detect and stop ransomware and other advanced threats.

“Traps unique approach preemptively stops attacks by blocking the techniques that attackers rely upon, including

never-before-seen attacks. These protections harness and add to the power of our platform to prevent advanced and never-before-seen threats from infiltrating the enterprise, at any point, and render them ineffective,” said Lee Klarich, Executive Vice President, Product Management, Palo Alto Networks.

Organisations that rely on machine data to make better decisions gain a strategic advantage over their competitors.

Splunk: Investment from outside IT is key to DX success

Splunk, provider of the leading software platform for real-time Operational Intelligence, has announced the results of new research that shows digital transformation initiatives are more successful when they have buy-in from across the business, in a report titled ‘Digital Transformation Trailblazing: A Data-Driven Approach.’

Findings from a survey of 400 senior IT executives across the US, UK and Germany show that adoption of digital transformation initiatives is widespread. When asked where they are in the journey, 55

percent believe they are moving with the masses, while 36 percent believe they are ahead of the curve. Respondents on average reported 29 percent of their IT budget is dedicated to digital transformation projects, but the research reveals these initiatives are more likely to succeed when funded from outside IT. The organisations

that are most mature when it comes to digital-first strategies are more likely to indicate that funding comes from departments such as product development, customer service, sales and marketing.

“Having a digital transformation strategy and executing on it no longer means you have an edge. If

most organisations are ‘moving with the masses’ or believe they are ‘ahead of the curve’ then no one is standing out,” said Doug Merritt, President and CEO, Splunk. “Organisations that rely on machine data to make better decisions gain a strategic advantage over their competitors.”

He added that it is not surprising that those organisations with the most success are the ones collaborating, and funding, cross-functionally.

“Data is a key driver in enabling that collaboration and can help companies drive real-time business insights to move faster to differentiate, innovate, raise revenues, reduce costs and mitigate risks.”
