welcome

issue number four / may 2009 / www.david-caruso-online.com

If you are reading this then I thank-you. Not just for reading it, but for being patient these many months between issues. As you probably remember it was my goal to put out an issue of RED every two months. That worked for approximately three issues. What happened, you ask? My answer: Life. It’s not an excuse. It’s just an explanation. It’s been an eye-opening several months for me, and I have decided to make an adjustment to RED’s release schedule. No longer will I try to put out an issue every two months.

Instead I will promise to have an issue ready whenever one is complete. There would be no sense in trying to force an issue together when there simply isn’t enough content or time. This is definitely a case of “quality over quantity” for me. I hope you will agree.

I’m trying something a bit new with this issue. From here on out I want to highlight one of David’s roles for each issue. As you have probably noticed from the cover, the focus this time is on Mad Dog and Glory. Feedback

would be appreciated. Since this magazine is for you, the reader, I want to know what you would like to see. While I can’t make promises, I will certainly do my best to make this a magazine that you want to read.

Again, thanks for your patience and continued support. Happy reading.

MAD DOG & GLORY <1993>

02

This is a delightful movie. A clever comedy drama with a love story and features some brutality, but overall is a movie that will bring a smile to your face.

The inspired casting brings together Robert DeNiro, a mild mannered Chicago police photographer whose real name is Wayne Dobie but has the nickname Mad Dog; Bill Murray as Frank Milo, an arrogant gangster and would-be comedian; David Caruso as Mike, a fellow cop and friend of Mad Dog, he is full of sarcasm for everyone and everything; Mike Starr as Harold one of Franks thugs; and Uma Thurman as Glory, the female interest. This is a team that complements each other to perfection.

The movie begins with a double homicide. Both Mad Dog and Mike are asleep at the police station and get called out to the crime scene, but not before their boss can ask them to bring him some Twinkies back with them, a request which gives rise to some real sarcasm from Mike. Having taken his photographs at the crime scene, Mad Dog wanders off to a local convenience store to purchase some Twinkies for his boss and walks in on a robbery in progress. This scene is hilarious. A trigger-happy young man is wielding a gun

standing behind the counter with one foot on Frank, who is lying on the floor, very humiliated and scared. Mad Dog is no natural hero, but he identifies himself and tries to negotiate with the young man to surrender his gun. The young man refuses. At the same time Frank is screaming at Mad Dog with some real sarcastic wise cracking remarks to do something. Mad Dog eventually persuades the young man to just flee the scene. He then follows and, frightened of his own shadow, creeps alongside a wall only to smack right into Mike at the corner coming the other way. Mike knows that Mad Dog is scared and later on they go to a bar for coffee. Mike suggests to Mad Dog that if he gets scared the best thing to think about is sex. At this point of time there is no woman in Mad Dog’s life, although he wishes this were not were the case. Mike starts to get sassy with one of the customers and then leaves the bar. Little does he know

that Harold, the customer he confronted, is there to find Mad Dog and, on behalf of his boss, invite him to the Comic Cazie club where his boss wishes to meet him. Mad Dog accepts the invitation and after the bartender, Glory, spills coffee over him he is surprised to see Frank. Mad Dog sits down and squirms while watching Frank trying to be a stand up comedian.

After the show Mad Dog and Frank meet up and have a few drinks, and, despite being on opposite sides of the law, they hit it off together while being slightly drunk. During the conversation Mad Dog gives the impression that he would like a woman in is life. Frank takes him home, and, as he leaves, he whispers to Mad Dog that he will be the expeditor of his dreams. The next morning Glory turns up at Mad Dog’s door saying that Frank had sent her to take care of him for a week in gratitude for saving Frank’s life.

Page 4: RED Issue 4

03

Later there is a disturbance at a neighbor’s apartment. Mad Dog goes to investigate and finds that the lady, Lee, has obviously been hit in the eye by her male friend. He asks her if she is okay (she is sporting a black eye) and her friend gets obnoxious, Mad Dog shows his police badge only for the man to show one in return. He then shuts the door in Mad Dogs face.

Afterwards, Mad Dog sees Mike, who is concerned about him and asks him if he is okay. Mad Dog explains that the guy is a policeman and an “ass”. Having looked at someone further down the bar, Mike realizes the couple that Mad Dog is concerned about are there. Mike asks Mad Dog to hold his gun and walks down to the couple, hell-bent on forcing the other cop to leave. Mike is very confrontational in a comically sarcastic way and threatens him, eventually

persuading him to leave. On his return to Mad Dog, Mike sits down and, all show, says “No guts, no glory”.

Soon after, there is a very touching love scene with Mad Dog and Glory which gives rise to a problem. Mad Dog and Glory have fallen in love, but she is to be returned to Frank at the end of the week.

In the meantime Mike and Mad Dog visit a restaurant where someone has been shot. An in love Mad Dog surprises everyone by turning on the Juke Box and starts dancing and singing. It appears that he has a fondness for Louis Prima’s song “I Ain’t Got Nobody”. This is a wonderful light-hearted scene and the expressions that pass across Mike’s face are priceless, as they are, in fact, throughout the whole movie.

When the two leave the

restaurant Mad Dog is still singing and Mike is full of mirth. He ask Mad Dog “What, did you get laid last night?” to which Mad Dog replies “Mike I don’t get laid, I make love.”

On their return to the station Frank is waiting to see Mad Dog and as he doesn’t like Mike’s attitude towards him (Mike is being a bit bull headed). Frank tells Mad Dog he will be picking Glory up on Monday, and subsequently threatens Glory on the phone. Mad Dog tells her he loves her and doesn’t want her to go back to Frank. He then asks Mike if he is doing anything on Monday and Mike knows immediately that his friend needs help and asks “ What time?” Mike is always there for his friend.

Monday dawns and Mad Dog is sitting on the stone steps outside the apartment block and Frank arrives to collect Glory. He sends Harold to find her. However rather than Glory, Harold comes face to face with Mike. They get embroiled in a fight, and both ending up in a bloodied mess. Frank has had enough and offers to sell Glory to Mad Dog and gives him two days to find the money.

When two days elapse and Frank comes to collect the money Mad Dog says he doesn’t have it and Frank suggests Mad Dog gets in his

car with his thugs. Mad Dog refuses, at which time Mike and a few colleagues turn up. However, there is a surprise for everyone as Mad Dog, for once, stands up for himself and tells Frank they should fight it out. It is quite a fight and no one else get involved. Eventually Frank concedes defeat, and says, “she is yours,” and repeats that phrase “I am the expeditor of your dreams.”The statement is true, for

now Mad Dog has a woman he loves and would probably never have met without the aid of Frank. Thus we have a happy ending and Mike is well pleased for his friend.I really enjoyed this movie. Great acting from all the stars, especially by Robert DeNiro and Bill Murray, whose timing is superb; but also by David Caruso, who plays his role as a cop with an attitude full of sarcasm in a very fine comedic way. David Caruso was is in

great company here and more than holds his own. Comedy really suits him.

As anyone who has seen the movie Misery can tell you that sometimes a celebrity’s biggest fan can quickly become their biggest nightmare. David Caruso knows this all too well. For nearly two and a half years he was the victim of a deranged individual’s threats upon his life and the lives of his family, along with a vicious internet campaign to slander him in any way possible. Had it not been for the efforts of a handful of dedicated bloggers and fans this story could have had a much different ending.

Sometime in the second half of 2006 (the specific date is unknown to me) Austrian fan Heidemarie Schnitzer traveled to the United States in hopes of meeting Mr. Caruso. Her hopes became reality when she encountered him in Miami. There are conflicting reports about what actually occurred, but one thing is

certain--Schnitzer approached Caruso, was unhappy with the reception she received, and returned to Austria, angry and ready to begin her internet smear campaign.

Over the next several months she sent over 100 angry letters to Mr. Caruso, several of which contained death threats. Austrian authorities, thanks to the stricter changes made to stalking laws, charged Schnitzer. However, when she failed to appear for her court date officials realized that she had fled the country, taking her laptop with her. A warrant was issued for her arrest, but Schnitzer was long gone. At that point in time no one could have anticipated just how difficult it would be to find her, catch her, and ultimately bring her to justice.

After fleeing Austria Schnitzer vanished from the radar for

a brief time before surfacing in a small Mexican town only a stone’s throw from the US border. She moved from place to place, making it difficult to pinpoint her location. Using one of her many, many online aliases Schnitzer would scour the internet, sometimes for 18 hours a day, in search of any article, blog, message board or photo of Caruso. Once she found what she was looking for she would proceed to post her vitriolic comments, angering fans and spurring on others who disliked the red-headed actor.

A number of Caruso’s fans took it upon themselves to discredit Schnitzer wherever she posted and reveal her for who she truly was. Despite their efforts her venom and lies continued to spread. It is impossible to know just how much damage was done to Caruso’s reputation during

Sarakanne

There are many people responsible for bringing Heidimarie Schnitzer to justice. Perhaps the most relentless crusader was the Stalker Chronicles Sara Kanne. Sara was gracious enough to answer some questions I had regarding her hunt for Heidi.

When and where did you first encounter Heidimarie Schnitzer?

I first encountered her after I bought a copy of the Jan/Feb 2007 issue of Cigar Aficionado that featured Caruso on the cover. After I read the cover story, I decided to do some Internet research on him. Unfortunately, I landed on one of Schnitzer’s four hate blogs. Much to my shock , I discovered that Schnitzer had plagiarized the Cigar Aficionado

article rewriting it with her slander and fabrications. I immediately contacted the editors of CA and brought it to their attention. They in turn contacted Schnitzer and threatened legal action if she didn’t remove it. Shortly thereafter, the article was gone. Weeks later though, it showed up on another one of Schnitzer’s many blogs.

A lot of people for a very long time doubted that the internet aliases such as Vixen and Dixiebabe were actually David’s stalker. How did you know she was the one? There are people who bad-mouth David on a regular basis, so what made the light bulb go off for you?

Apart from her trademark bad grammar and ad nausea

misspellings, Schnitzer also used a laptop with a German keyboard. In her haste to trash talk David Caruso, she rarely if ever used spell check. Oftentimes she would slip up and use a character from the German alphabet. Early on, she always hit my blog from a German translation. Until I managed to get the word out about her, I didn’t really get that many hits from Austria, other than her. When she fled the second time in April, 2008 it was patently obvious she was in Mexico. Every time I updated, she would hit within minutes from Mexico coming in under a German translation. You have to ask yourself: how many German people residing in Mexico had an obsessive interest in David Caruso. Although, Schnitzer

that time. Thanks to one blogger in particular, the story does have a happy end. Sara Kanne became a proverbial dog-with-a-bone and began ‘hunting’ Schnitzer, eventually coordinating with the Tijuana police and the Austrian courts. Thanks to her tireless efforts the Stalker Hunter (as she was later dubbed) got her ‘prey’. After the Austrian courts finally issued an international arrest warrant Schnitzer was

found in Tijuana, arrested, and extradited to Austria. There she went on trial and was sentenced to prison. While the length of her prison stay will most likely be shorter than fans would like, Schnitzer will afterwards be forced to spend time in a mental institution where she will be receiving treatment from mental health experts.

While fans are happy to see Schnitzer behind bars,

the hope of most is that Schnitzer will get the help she desperately needs; she has a family, including two younger children who have been without their mother for far too long.

A well-deserved thank-you goes out to Sara, dojo, lacyleanne and all others who helped bring Heidemarie Schnitzer to justice.

tried to be very clever and manipulative changing at one point her translation to Spanish, I was never fooled.

I know that Aaron Barnhart at the Kansas City Star dubbed you the “Stalker Hunter”. How did he find out about you?

After I decided that I would have to be more proactive in my efforts to get the word out about Schnitzer, I contacted a number of different sources about the story. The Kansas City Star’s Aaron Barnhart rose to the occasion and posted a piece on his TVBarn blog. When the RSS Feeds updated, Schnitzer immediately attempted to foment a comment war using her trademark multiple pseudonyms. What Schnitzer didn’t realize was that Aaron Barnhart and I were communicating behind the scenes via e-mail. I provided him with information and links to the AceofSpadesHQ Blog she had earlier invaded. What Schnitzer failed to understand when she was spamming Ace’s site was his 5 digit system that identified who the commenter was, no matter what screen name was used. Schnitzer could have used a hundred different pseudonyms, but as long as she was using the same IP address, the 5 digits remained the same. Ace called her on it and even noted that she wasn’t “too bright.” Aaron

Barnhart was able to analyze his traffic stats as well and see that the multiple comments originating from Mexico were indeed those of Heidemarie Schnitzer. It didn’t take him long to close down his comments.

I know you posted Heidi’s photo quite some time ago. Where did you get it?

Because Rachel and Lacyleanne had not only posted her identity as Heidemarie Schnitzer but the name of her daughter as Katharina Sophie, I did some Internet research and ran across this Austrian website. It appears to be some type of school that Schnitzer’s children attended and the site had photos of what appeared to an Open House for parents. I found three photos of Schnitzer plus two of her daughter and one with her son. It wasn’t a great leap of faith to assume that a site with photos of “Heidi” and “Katharina Sophie” were photos of the Caruso stalker given what we already knew about her. Schnitzer all but confirmed these were her with her outrageous denials. Initially, I decided not to post the link to the website as I didn’t want the other parents and children not to mention the school to be embarrassed by the fact that they were associated with a criminal celebrity stalker. But Schnitzer proved beyond a

shadow of a doubt that she was the stalker when she stole my name “sarakanne” and used it to post the Austrian website herself. You have to ask yourself, if she wasn’t the stalker, how did she have the link for the website? After she stole my name, she then used her own pseudonyms to denounce me for posting the link. KRoselyn called her on it though pointing out one glaring error: Schnitzer had not bothered to capitalize “sarakanne” which I always did. Shortly thereafter, Schnitzer gave up the charade and moved onto something else. She must have realized the more she denied the photos were her, the guiltier she looked.

When you initially contacted the Austrian authorities about Heidi, what was their initial reaction?

Initially, there was no response at all other than an increase in my hits from Austria, so I knew they were taking notice. When I didn’t hear anything, I kept writing them. Later on it paid off because I received e-mails asking me to verify details and requesting additional information.

Did you use her ISP to track her to Mexico?

Absolutely. At one point, Schnitzer used the same Mexican ISP for nearly 2 months. After that, she

Sarakanne

Page 9: RED Issue 4

08

moved around frequently every 2 to 3 weeks, especially after the international warrant was issued.

What about the Mexican police? How did they respond?

The Tijuana police were very helpful and asked me for the url for my blog. During one of our conversations, they were actually reading it as we were speaking. The Rosarito police on the other hand were adamant about having a warrant or an official request from the arresting country. After speaking with them, I contacted Judge Guenther Boehler and explained that Mexico was helpless to do anything about Schnitzer in the absence of a warrant. Within a few short weeks, he issued the international warrant.

I think Schnitzer’s ultimate downfall was her O.J. Simpsonesque belief that she was above the law and no one cared enough to search for her. Initially, she was probably right. Until The Stalker Chronicles published her name and photo and began an e-mail blitz towards Austrian and Mexican officials, this would have remained a cold case. I would like to think that in some small way The Stalker Chronicles kept this case up front and literally in the faces of law enforcement. No one should be allowed

to threaten to murder three people, fail to appear for court dates and flee a country to avoid prosecution. Sadly, we all know now why she fled. Schnitzer’s prior conviction for threatening an ex-boyfriend probably played a large role in her decision to flee.

Schnitzer’s death threat letter contained the following sentence: “You don’t know how much someone can buy on the Internet today.” Ironically, it was the Internet that primarily aided me in finding Schnitzer and locating names and emails of law enforcement officials who ultimately captured her.

Do you think if given the chance Heidi would have tried to hurt David and his family?

I most definitely think she would have attempted to hurt them. That’s why she fled to Mexico’s Baja peninsula. She hoped she would be able to sneak across the border and go after Caruso. Plus, we now know that she was convicted once before (around 1994) for threatening an ex-boyfriend when that relationship soured. And we also know that she told her attorney that she was “capable of going on a killing spree.” I think the death threat letter sent to Caruso says it all. And I don’t know if you ever saw the heinous, pornographic comment she left on the Who’s Dated Who

site directed towards David’s then two-year old son, but it was horrifying and sick. Yes, I do think this woman is capable of harming someone.Which moment was more rewarding, when Heidi was arrested in Mexico or sentenced in Austria?

The arrest actually. I felt like I played a role in that. Austrian prosecutor Karin Schiffmann and her team successfully argued their case against Schnitzer which resulted in the guilty verdict.

If you could say anything to Heidi what would it be?

Emily, I cannot remember where I read this, but it indicated that HS had some serious issues with her own mother and she claimed she(Schnitzer) would never forgive her. My hope for Heidemarie Schnitzer is that she gets the help she needs to become a mentally healthy person. If I had a chance to speak to her, I would suggest that she forgive the people she feels have wronged her and move on with her life.

And, finally, if you could say anything to David what would it be?

Being a technology addict, I would ask: When could we expect to see Lexicon up and running?

csi miami: LOSING FACE

This is my favourite episode from season one. Horatio is on a mission after the death of his mentor by a bomb explosion. David Caruso as Horatio has great impact in this episode from start to finish and in my opinion shows us some of his finest acting in the whole season. He is firm, decisive, makes a few mistakes showing us that he is fallible, works hands on and side by side with the team at the crime scenes and in the lab and is full of emotion throughout. Although a serious storyline there are some amusing moments and some tetchy moments between them all whilst they are working with a united front to catch the bomber. A truly good episode.

The episode begins with a

woman (Julisa) waking up to the sound of the alarm clock beep at 6am and wondering where her husband (Aurelio) is, he hasn’t been to bed. She gets up and finds him tied to a chair with a bomb pinned to his shirt together with a ransom note. She screams and next we see the bomb squad arriving.

Meanwhile back in the lab Horatio is watching the news on television and in an amusing scene Eric says “How about a cup of coffee H?”……..Horatio says “no, thank you.” Then as Calleigh arrives she says “That smells good” and Eric says “little cafe Cubano? Put some hair on your chest.” Calleigh responds with “ Don’t you say the sweetest things?” And Speed says “That stuff is no good for you…It’ll rot your

stomach up.”

Throughout this repartee between them Horatio is concentrating on the news on the television which is announcing a bomb scare. Horatio races off, arrives at the scene, gets out of the hummer and smiling walks over to the bomb squad officer saying “I didn’t know they made body armour in triple extra large” The officer Al Humphries is a very old friend of his who taught Horatio everything he knew when he was on the bomb squad.

Rather than using remote control, Al Humphries tries a hands on job to defuse the bomb although Horatio does try to stop him handling it this way. The tragedy is that Al gets blown to bits together

Page 11: RED Issue 4

10

with the man he was trying to save. Horatio is in shock, lifts his hand to feel blood on his face and is in desperate pain at the loss of his friend.

Megan is already at the scene when Calleigh and Eric arrive. Calleigh asks “where’s Horatio?” and Megan says inside and Eric then asks “Have you talked to him, as I think he knows the guy.” Megan says….Al Humphries. He brought him onto the bomb squad. Trained him, they were close. Give me a minute alone with him OK

Megan goes inside and Horatio tells her the victims name is AURELIO MORENO, a successful Columbian importer. He then describes the scene obviously very upset and Megan wants him

to climb down because of his closeness to the case. But Horatio emphatically says “This is a crime scene like any other” and “There are no other crime scenes in Miami today.”

When they finish inspecting the scene and return to the hummer Megan is concerned that Horatio places Al’s ring into a small packet and asks him what he is doing because this is evidence and tells him he cannot give it away. So Horatio firmly says “I’m not giving it away…..I’m giving it back.”

Horatio then visits Al’s wife Felicia…….and is very gentle with her and he says “Felicia, everything I am, I owe to Al. Everything I know, he taught me.

csi miami: LOSING FACE

He gives her Al’s ring and tells her he will handle telling the kids for her.

The team then do some work in the lab checking all the bomb parts and Horatio finishes up saying something is missing…….and said “It’s not here “ Megan joined them and said “ casing came back positive for TATP….very sensitive wouldn’t want to get the shakes.” Horatio says “not this guy he’s a pro, and then he says we are still missing a component. The action switch is not here. Speed is insistent that they covered the scene and Horatio very firmly answers “Let me say it again, it’s not here.”Speed is not happy at this and retaliates by saying the evidence just can’t get up and walk away. But, Megan is

Page 12: RED Issue 4

11

watching a video of the crime scene when she observes some workmen come out of the building wearing their boots and realises the evidence just could have been walked out of the building. So all the boots are examined with Horatio finally finding the missing component stuck in the sole of one of them.

Eric then discovers that the paper used for the ransom note came from a particular shipment which happens to be sitting in a Customs Compound so he visits the Compound where he meets Charlie Berenger who informs Eric that Aurelio Moreno was being investigated by a smuggling Task Force.

Now there is a second bomb

scare and at the scene Horatio explains to the bomb expert (a lady called Kat) that it is the same device that killed Al. He walks the scene and it turns out that the bomb is a hoax. As Horatio leaves the building he sees a boy on a bike with a suspicious looking parcel. He goes over to the boy and engages in talking to him. He suspects another bomb, checks the bike and asks the boy to move away with Megan and a robot is then used to detonate the bomb.

It turns out that both the victims are decoys…Horatio works out that the bomber was after the bomb squad. The first bomb was designed to kill the victim, the second bomb was a decoy to lure the bomb squad in and the third

bomb was designed to blow them to smithereens. Horatio explains that every bomber has a signature and he is going to find this one.

Horatio and the team then spend some time at the lab; going over and over the evidence throwing questions at each other and Horatio finally decides they need to visit the customs compound where he suspects the bomber is based.

On arrival at the compound Megan does not want Horatio to go in without back up. However, Horatio says “He’s killing my friends. He’s talking to me. I am going in.”Suddenly a voice calls out “Horatio” and Horatio turning with a smile says Charlie B……

csi miami: LOSING FACE

Page 13: RED Issue 4

12

who responds with “Horatio Caine, it’s been a while. Hey nice work with the kid on the bike.” Charlie B has a bomb device around his neck. So Horatio gets him talking about the past and it appears that Al had taken Charlie B off the bomb squad after a bomb blew in 1998 and having resented this ever since wanted revenge against the bomb squad. This is a dangerous situation because at any moment Charlie B could set the bomb off but Horatio notices that he has something in his hand that Charlie B keeps raising to his mouth and realises this is the safe arming switch. He makes a sudden calculated move,

grabs the switch and slots it into the device round Charlie B’s neck and cat and mouse game over.Horatio then says “GET HIM OUT OF MY SIGHT.”Finally, walking with Megan to Al’s funeral Horatio says “You know what I liked most about

Al, most men have to earn your respect….With Al that is where you started.”

Nice words on which to end a great episode.

mad dog reviews

As Mad Dog and Glory is the highlighted movie for this issue, I went in search of reviews of David’s performance. I found a surprisingly high number of reviews praising his performance as one of the highlights of the movie. Here are some of those reviews.

podwilliamsWhenever I see David Caruso now I’m reminded of his performance as one of the most convincing, chillingly fearless cops I’ve ever seen.

OneBadGuySay what you will about the man’s acting skills, but the guy can pull off the whole “I’m shorter than you, but I can still kick your a**” thing off perfectly. Watch CSI: Miami sometime and you’ll see what I mean.

you_savvyThis [bar] scene is easily the best thing Caruso’s ever done.

matthew_91_2000 David Caruso is awesome here. One of my favorite scenes of all time is Frank Milo’s “gorilla” going upstairs to get Glory, and opening the door to find Caruso’s character casually reclining on the sofa. Hysterical! Another favorite is the scene in the bar where he backs down the burly cop who is domestically abusing “Mad Dog’s” neighbor.

zrug99zAnd yeah, I too liked the scene where Caruso gives that cop bully a taste of his own medicine. And he did it without having to use violence!

azmildman David Caruso is always good. My idea of good acting is when, while watching, you don’t feel like you are watching a movie but more like being privy to a private conversation.

Kevin H. DudleyOne of the funniest characters in the movie though is David Caruso (ex. NYPD Blue) as Mad Dog’s best friend and overzealous co-worker. His fist fight with one of Frank’s goons in Mad Dog’s apartment near the end of the movie is one of the comic highlights of the film.

David BaldwinWho does distinguish himself is David Caruso as DeNiro’s no-nonsense partner.

mad dog reviews

dose2000Caruso’s part of the tough-as-nails partner to Mad Dog is one of his best!

freesharonDavid Caruso gives the most out-there performance I have seen from him, and in this movie it works.

PromontoriumThe supporting actors are deep and become story drivers in their own right, especially David Caruso who plays De Niro’s cop friend. “No guts, no glory right?”

Solidchuck19There are so many layers to the movie, and it is

showcased by both strong dialogue, including Wayne’s partner, (David Caruso). Very high quality acting...

halopesDavid Caruso delivers a solid, contained, performance.

Vomitron_GDavid Caruso’s performance is also ‘très naturel’, and he seems comfortable as De Niro’s helping friend. Caruso’s fight with Mike Starr is one of the highlights of the movie.

lastliberalDavid Caruso was also good and I admit that I have a certain fondness for him. I think he gets criticized unfairly.

jhcluesIn supporting roles, there are some noteworthy performances turned in by David Caruso (Mike), Uma Thurman (Glory), Mike Starr (Harold) and Kathy Baker (Lee).

And finally, a humorous compliment from a Caruso “hater”… you_savvyI usually can’t stand Caruso, but he’s a complete badass in this film.
