Heather Farm CommunityCenter sits comfortably inthe middle of beautifulHeather Farm Park, directlyoff Ygnacio Valley Road.The attractive LakesideRoom has banquet seatingfor up to 200, a kitchen,dry bar, and a large outdoorpatio, while the Club Roomis great for small meetings.

Shadelands Arts Center isdirectly off Ygnacio ValleyRoad and has been exten-sively remodeled. The facil-

ity is in-demand for largesocial and corporate eventsand has banquet seating for300 guests. The DanceStudio is great for smallevents up to 100 guestsand several classrooms arealso available.

Civic Park CommunityCenter is nestled amongoak and redwood trees andfeatures immediate accessto large grassy areas. Thiscenter has several roomsavailable for rental, the

P R E S C H O O L SWell-rounded, nurturing, developmentally age-appropriateprograms and curriculums for young children ages 24 to60 months. We offer hands-on learning opportunities thatdevelop and expand social/emotional, physical, and cogni-tive capabilities through creative learning experiences.Group activities include the arts, with small focus groupsexploring pre-math, science, and early language/literacyexperiences.

Heather Farm and Civic Park Preschools are now partof Civic Arts Education programming. Doug Rowe, CivicArts program supervisor, has been working with the teach-ing staff on this transition and will be supervising bothprograms as well as the Fine Arts Preschool at theShadelands Art Center. The unique qualities and teachingstaff of all three of these developmental programs willremain the same. We are excited about this new partner-ship and look forward to continuing the quality develop-mental education to which we are committed.

Students and parents alike will be impressed by the dynamicrange of learning aides and carefully designed development plans usedthroughout this program. Program drills enhance quickness, balance and racquet control forimproved consistency and accuracy. Class goal: Develop foundation tobecome a well-rounded tennis player, successfully play singles and doublesmatches, and to play in local tennis leagues, school teams or tournaments.

Little Tennis &RalleyerCampsSpecially designed tennis nets, racquets & low bouncing balls are used toprovide an enjoyable learning experience for younger players (4-6 years).Several short breaks are taken so that students can regain energy (bring asnack) and cool down (ice water provided). Little Tennis students will learnto recognize, demonstrate and successfully hit the forehand, backhand andserve. They will learn parts of the racquet and court, and improve coordi-nation and motor skills (i.e. balancing, overhand throwing, catching, shuf-fling). Little Rallyers will work to improve their full court abilities through aseries of drills and games.

Junior Improvement &MatchplayCamps:Students are grouped by age and ability levels on 1st day of class.Introductory students will learn and improve their forehand, backhand,volley, overhead and serve through our unique “court rotation and activitysystem”. Intermediate and Junior Team students will develop specialty shotsand play in Singles and Doubles Round Robin Tournaments. The instruc-tor(s) will help players with scoring, rules and match strategy. Players shouldbring a snack; ice water is provided.

Adult Tennis (16 & Older)BeginningFor students with little or no previous tennis instruction. Students will beintroduced to forehand, backhand, serve, and basic vocabulary. Intermediate/AdvancedFor students who have completed 10-20 hours of advanced beginning ten-nis. Drill ClassPrerequisite: Intermediate course or instructor approval. Workouts coverground strokes, volleys, overheads, and serving drills. A great class for thosewanting to move and hit lots of tennis balls.

Women’s Tennis AcademyThis innovative program is designed for 3.5 to 4.0 level players looking toimprove their results in interclub, USTA league/tournaments or just to fur-ther develop their game playing skills. Students will thrive in our rotatingcourt training system which has produced fantastic results throughout localand national junior competitions.

Men’s Drill ClassTurn up your game with drills focused on movement and shot development.Classes are designed to maximize the number of balls hit per session. Eachlesson will include a variety of drills that cover a wide range of shots.

Spring is here and we will be welcoming back ourmigrants. We should see orioles, warblers, swallows, fly-catchers, and numerous other spring migrants as theyreturn from the tropics to raise their families in ourbackyards. This is an easy stroll around Borges Ranch andthe woodlands near Bob Pond. We will meet under thewindmill at Borges Ranch.

Putnum Creek and Acalanes Open SpaceSaturday,May 21, 8:00-10:00am

This beautiful hike will lead us into the riparian wood-lands along Putnum Creek and the grasslands of AcalanesRidge. Acalanes is a great place for nesting vireos, chick-adees, nuthatches, and, if we’re lucky, even browncreepers. This is an easy hike to a hidden gem in our OpenSpace. We will meet at the end of Sousa Dr. at AcalanesOpen Space.

First, we’ll meander through the drier, open quarries toview penstemon, fuchsia, and stonecrops. Then it’s on tothe shady Indian Creek drainage to seek out ferns and

Habitats of Acalanes Open SpaceSaturday, April 16, 2:00pm

Sousa Trail starts with open woodlands before droppinginto a dark, fern-laden gorge and then climbs back up intoopen grassland. All this in the first one-half mile! Thismoderate hike includes the Putnam Creek drainage as wellas the Monarch Ridge area. This plantapaloosa will be twoplus hours. Meet at the end of Sousa Drive.
