Real World Evangelism: Lesson One!

The Need to Seek & to Save the Lost!

Luke 19:10 "for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that

which was lost."

Page 3: Real world evangelism lesson 1

* * 0 We will begin our study by first

considering the “need” for evangelism!

●It has been rightly said that, “God has no problems, just plans!”

●God has a purpose/plan for His church!

–Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

–Tit 2:14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

The Work of the Church!

●Evangelism! (Acts 1:4-8; 8:1-4)

–Universal Problem of Sin! (Rom. 3:10-12, 23)

–Universal Plan of Salvation! (Mk. 16:15-16)

●Edification! (Eph. 4:11-15)

–Building up one another! (Eccl. 4:9-12; Heb. 10:24-25; Gal. 6:1-2 and Js. 5:19-20)

●Benevolence! (Js. 1:26-27)

–Minister to the “needs” of others! (Gal. 6:9,10)

–This is what the early church did! (Act. 2:41- 47; 4:34-37, 5:1-11 and etc.)

* * 0 If We Are Going to Have the Same

Effect the Early Church Had then...●We are going to have to learn to “evangelize” like

them!

●When this is realized and followed I believe the result will be the same!

–Acts 17:6 ... crying out, "These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.

–Col 1:23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

* * 0 I. Seek them that are seeking!

Acts 17:1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to

Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.

●Synagogue = assembly; house of assembly; house of prayer

●Jewish worship would be carried out anywhere there were at least 10 Jews, this was often in the synagogue!

●This would be similar to our “church building” and what we use it for.

Page 7: Real world evangelism lesson 1

* * 0 It is important to keep in mind

“why” we need to seek the lost!Lk. 19:10 "for the Son of Man has come to seek and to

save that which was lost."●Without Christ “all” men are lost!

–Acts 4:12 "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

●He is the “only” one that can make men right!

–2Co 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

* * 0 Understanding what it means to

seek!●Seek Defined = to try to find or obtian; to search

for and find; give great effect to obtain

●Seek Described = A perfect picture of this is given in (Lk. 15:1-32 cf. Heb. 11:6; Mt. 6:33)

–Lost Sheep! (Lk. 15:3-7)

–Lost Silver! (Lk. 15:8-10)

–Lost Son! (Lk. 15:11-32)

●How often do we just sit by hoping the lost will come to us, when we should go to them?

Page 9: Real world evangelism lesson 1

* * 0 I. Search the Scriptures with them!Act 17:2 Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them,

and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

●When we find them that are seeking, what do we do with then? We must learn to help them find the answers they need!

●We need to “reason” with them from the Scriptures!

–Isa 1:18 "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.”

Page 10: Real world evangelism lesson 1

* * 0 God expects us to act upon the

evidence!1Sa 12:7 "Now therefore, stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD concerning all the righteous

acts of the LORD which He did to you and your fathers:●God can and must be found!

–Lk 11:9 "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

–Mt 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

●“Be still and know that God is real!” Ps. 46:10

Page 11: Real world evangelism lesson 1

* * 0 III. Share with them the Savior!

Act 17:3 explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying,

"This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ."

●Every Bible study/sermon should have this goal in mind! Point people to Jesus!!!

●We are not here to show how much we know, but to show how much we need Jesus!

●We are to preach and teach Christ!–1Cor 2:2 For I determined not to know anything

among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

Page 12: Real world evangelism lesson 1

* * 0 When we go out to share the gospel with

others, let’s keep in mind that the goal is to help them & not hurt them!

●It is only by the blood of Christ that sins can be forgiven!–1Pet 1:18-19 knowing that you were not redeemed with

corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

–Rev 1:5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,

Conclusion:

●May we come to understand our need to seek and to save the lost!

●There are indeed many souls that need saving and Jesus is the answer!

●Have you come to know the Savior, have you been set free from sin to live with Him?

●If you are a Christian, then how do you see the lost? As a opportunity or a obstacle?
