arms. Be a mother ready at every moment to help us.
For God who is mighty has done great things for you,

Equality and Equity
We operate under two very different economic sys-
tems. On one hand, in society the measure to which we
claim a right is determined by the character and extent
of our earning power. On the other hand, what is de-
scribed in St. Paul’s admonition to the Corinthians is
more like the way economics operates in a family.
There, need rather than earning power determines the
measure of what we might claim as our right.
Both systems are built on important, though sometimes different, values. The prominent economic
system in today’s world advocates equality as the value upon which it is built. This includes equal pay
for equal work, but also equality of opportunity. The system Paul advocates is built on issues of equity,
which recognizes that all things are not equal. It insists that those who need more should get more. Both
systems also face pitfalls. This could occur when a system based on equality does not operate on an
“equal playing field.” In such a situation, equality can lack justice. Then again, a system in which need
or equity plays an important role must always be on the alert for idleness. Experience has shown that
people have a tendency to take advantage of either system.
In an ideal system, both values operate. This is what Paul is actually advocating. He does not expect the
rich to become poor. However, he does insist that as a matter of justice, and not charity, legitimate
needs should be met. After all, we all are called to join the household of God.

A Word from Pope Francis They were two very different people….Yet the closeness that joined Peter and Paul did
not come from natural inclinations, but from the Lord. He did not command us to like
one another, but to love one another. He is the one who unites us, without making us all
alike. He unites us in our differences.

Weekly Offerings
During the summer months and over long week-
ends, many take time for vacation. The parishion-
ers of St. Teresa’s are very supportive of the
parish and for this we are thankful. However, we
cannot forget that our parish still functions during
these months. The ordinary expenses (electricity,
maintenance, household) you incur while away
from your home during the summer are very
similar as those needed to maintain our parish,
with the addition that we must continue to pay our
staff their salaries. Please don’t forget your
financial support to the parish during the
upcoming months, especially those Sundays that
you will be away.
Parish Bulletin This is the last bulletin for this season.
Bulletins will resume September 4/5.

Greeting my brothers and sisters in Christ,
Summer is here! Yay!, during the 12 years I have lived in Canada, I have been learning how
important summer is for everyone ( In Colombia, where I born, we have summer all year). In this
season there are many changes in peoples’ lifestyle: a long vacation for students (time to travel,
rest and work), people spend time outside doing many activities, family trips, camping, BBQs,
fishing, a variety of festivals, people are more spontaneous and upbeat, many weddings’ cele-
brations, graduations, light clothes and so on. In short, I would say people are living a full life.
Thank God and nature for this season. Just the readings for this weekend speak of the gift of
life, both physical and spiritual, that God has given us. They urge and challenge us to be grate-
ful for our health in body and soul and to use God’s gifts of life and health responsibly.
The first reading, taken from the Book of Wisdom, tells us that God gave us life and health, and
that it was the jealousy of Satan that produced illness and death. The reading also suggests that
the goal of our lives on earth is to know, to love, and to serve God here, with perfect health in
body and soul, and to share God’s immortal Life forever. St. Paul asks the Corinthian Christian
community to show to their suffering, starving Jewish brothers and sisters in Jerusalem, living in
poverty and sickness, the same generous kindness and compassion that Jesus showed in heal-
ing all who came to Him believing.
Today’s Gospel describes two of our Lord’s miracles, the healing of a woman who suffered from
a chronic bleeding disease and the returning of the dead daughter of Jairus to life. These heal-
ings teach us that Jesus wills life and wills fullness of life for all God’s children. They also reveal
Jesus as a generous, kind, compassionate God Who wills that people should live their whole-
some lives fully, giving us further proof of the Divine power and the Infinite Mercy of our Saviour.
We are invited to accept God’s call to health, wholeness and holiness. Jesus accepts us as we
are. Therefore, let us bring before him our bodily illnesses and spiritual wounds and ask for his
healing touch. As Christians, we believe that Jesus continues to heal us through God’s instru-
ments in the medical profession like doctors, nurses and medical technicians. Let us not forget
the truth that Christ still works wonders of healing. Let us also thank God for the great gift of
health and use it for helping those who are sick. Also, we need to continue the healing mission
of the Church: As members of the Church, we are not excused from our vocation to be healers.
We do our share of Christ’s healing mission by visiting the sick, by praying for their healing, and
by boosting their morale with our loving presence, and words of encouragement and inspiration.
Thus, we may enable them to experience the compassion of Jesus the healer.
Have a wonderful and happy summer, but care for your health and other’s heath as well.
In Christ,
Fr. Ciro
