- Responding to the Word -
**PROFESSION OF FAITH ............................................................................... from A Brief Statement of Faith In life and in death we belong to God….We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus
proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor, release to the captives, teaching
by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted,
eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly
condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain
and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his
sinless life, delivering us from death to life eternal.
**HYMN OF PRAYER 427 .........................................................................“Jesus Knows the Inmost Heart” Words and music on next page, you are welcome to join in the refrain, and in the verses as you

Music Notes by Rebecca te Velde
Prelude: Dudley Buck (1839-1909) was a prominent American organist, composer, teacher, and writer (Dictionary of Music Terms). After studying at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, he studied in Leipzig, Dresden and Paris before becoming organist at Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn. This piece is a quiet and elongated setting of the tune of our Doxology, presented in a trio texture. Postlude: Max Reger (1873-1916), known especially for his enormous organ compositions (in their technical demands as well as in duration), was a highly-acclaimed virtuoso organist, prolific composer, pedagogue, and conductor. He was also a church musician and composed for those needs, including concise hymn-based pieces such as this one. Although short, it bears Reger’s trademarks of density and Bach-inspired counterpoint. Special Music: We thank Choral Scholar Megan Flores for serving as soloist and cantor this morning. Her solo is a lovely setting of hymn #475 in Glory to God.
