Employment in the healthcareprofession is expected to grownearly twice as fast as the generaleconomy, increasing by 29 percentand resulting in a projected 3.5million new jobs by 2020.

Steve McMahan

EVP of Corporate Services, Randstad US, Professionals

The outlook for the healthcare sectorappears to be very bright for the foreseeablefuture. Attributed as a main factor in drivingeconomic growth, the healthcare industrycontinues to deliver solid job growth month

after month. In May, healthcare and socialassistance employment grew by 34,000 jobsaccording to the Bureau of Labor Statistics(BLS). Employment in the profession is

expected to grow nearly twice as fast as thegeneral economy, increasing by 29 percentand resulting in a projected 3.5 million new

 jobs by 2020.

Coupled with the increasing need forexperienced healthcare professionals, ourclients are in need of solutions that delivercost savings. With more than $4 billion inspend under management today, Randstad’sManaged Services Program is ranked #1 inthe world by Staffing Industry Analysts inHealthcare MSP and delivers significant cost

savings for our clients every day.

Additionally, several other market dynamicsare driving the tremendous growth within

the healthcare market, including an agingpopulation, healthcare reform, and theincreased emphasis on quality and patientsatisfaction. These trends require hospitalsand nursing and residential care facilities toinvest in skilled, hard-to-find talent to meetthe needs of an ever-changing industry.

Considering the challenge of managingfluctuations in patient census levels, andthe uncertainty of healthcare reformlegislation, many hiring managers continueto leverage temporary or contract healthcare

professionals to fill short-term or immediate job needs. In our own business, we are seeinghigh demand for family practice physicians, hospitalists, ICU registered nurses, nursepractitioners, and pharmacy technicians.
