The artist may elect to utilize theorganization’s logo or likeness of thelogo as a design element. Anyorganizational symbols or colorschemes may also be utilized as designelements. The artist will attempt tocreate a universal stylized image forbroader appeal. The organization’stheme for this project was “Praise TheLord With Gladness”.

Image Planning

Three sketches are usually submitted fora typical project. The concept for thepiece is usually discussed, with certainparameters in place. The organization willusually provide a theme. The artist willincorporate the theme in the sketchessubmitted. The artist’s sketches aresimple, rough line drawings with no color.Sketches will be either submitted bye-mail or by fax.

After submission and review of the three sketches,the artist and organization should have a better ideawhich direction to pursue with the image concept.The artist will make any necessary minoradjustments to the selected rough sketch. Uponwritten approval, the artist will begin to plan the finaloriginal work. The sketch process could take 1-2weeks.

After the final selection is made the artistbegins to paint the final original which will beutilized on the commemorative reproduction.The artist will generally e-mail an image of theartwork in progress to the elected contactperson. Depending on the complexity of thefinal design, this process could take between1-2 months. The final original artwork is nowcompleted and ready for publishing!

Internationally renowned artist Larry “Poncho” Brown is a native of Baltimore,MD. He started his first business at the age of17 as a signwriter and has been a full timeartist ever since. Poncho received hisBachelors of Fine Arts Degree from theMaryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore,MD. His art, both fine and commercial, hasbeen published nationally in Art Trends, U.S.Art Gallery, Images, Upscale, Ebony, EbonyMan, Essence, and Jet Magazines. His work isalso featured in the UCLA Fowler Museum ofCultural History Textile Series book entitled“Wrapped in Pride” and “Connecting PeopleWith Art” by Evelyn & Mercer Redcross. Hiswork adorns the walls of the likes of Bill Cosby,Dick Gregory, Anita Baker, Susan Taylor,Bernard Bronner, Ed Gordon and Charles Bibbsjust to name a few.

In pursuing his philanthropic goals, he founded “Raising The Arts” which provides fundraising opportunities for non-profit organizations. Hehas created over 62 images for such organizations since 1987. Poncho was awarded “Artist of the Year” by the AfricanAmerican Visual Arts Association, The HeritageArts Festival Palette Award, the Save The ArtsAward and numerous other recognitions.

Poncho’s unique style combines past and present art forms to create a sense of realism,mysticism, and beauty, giving his art imagesuniversal appeal. His contemporary creationsare a reflection of his personal values and payhomage to ongoing themes of family, unity,spirituality and perseverance.
