The Rainforest Foods Story
Rainforest Foods (pvt) Ltd. is a small and innovative Sri Lankan owned company based in Galle town
in the south of Sri Lanka. The organization was set up in 2011, when the directors identified an
opportunity to link small scale farmers residing close to threatened forests and local certified groups
with the market place at local and global level.
The directors believe that an organization that is socially orientated and one that works using fair
codes of ethics can help bring about lasting positive change in the rural sector of Sri Lanka and
strengthen the threatened ecosystems of the tropical wet rainforests.
Rainforest Food products are sourced from farmers and suppliers that are certified or those that
farm in close proximity to the remaining Rainforests of Sri Lanka. Rainforest Foods promotes the use
of organic production on these farms and helps the farmers reach more diversified incomes, by
improving the local agricultural systems. Working closely with Rainforest Rescue International; an
organization that works with rural forest edge communities throughout the country, production
systems that use no pesticides or fertilizers are promoted and introduced to rural farms.
While the Rainforest Foods has been active in pursuing international trade with current exports of
products to Germany, Russia and America the importance of supplying the local market with high
quality and socially friendly products has been a strong focus over the past years.
The organization has set up one of the first forest garden certified product lines in Sri Lanka and
currently supplies a number of retail shops such as independent groceries and specialty shops in
Galle, Colombo and Arugambay.
Supporters and consumers of the Rainforest Foods product brand are environmentally sensitive
individuals that want the best quality product that is produced in a sustainable manner.

Forest bees honey and Garlic in bee honey
Bees make honey by travelling from flower to flower, removing the rich nectar, storing it briefly to
mix with their enzymes, and then depositing the honey in their hives. Throughout the ages, honey has
been recognized as a premium natural food – a storehouse of energy that is easily digestible.
Traditional honey gathers harvest wild colonies thus destroying and destabilizing communities. We
work with communities that have developed sustainable bee keeping programme that provides
pollination functions to local system while harvesting some of Sri Lanka purest Honey varieties. The
dark honey is generated from forests with numerous medicinally important species of trees, thus
providing the honey important Ayurvedic properties.
This great-tasting, all natural sweetener is loaded with nature’s goodness. Easy to digest,
Rainforest Bee Honey® is a quick and natural energy source for any occasion!
