Valuesrepresentthe‘soul’ofourcompany,itsessenceandultimatelyitscharacter.Ourvaluesdefineourinteractionwithourenvironment-sociological,economicalandecological.Theydefinewhyouremployeeswanttoworkforus,whycompaniespartnerus,whycustomerschoosetoworkandstaywithus,whypeoplebelieveinourfutureandcontinuetoinvestinus.

Weknowthisisaveryboldstatement.Nordoweyetfullyunderstandtheramificationsitwillhaveuponourcompany-eitheruponcostorrevenue.Butwhatwedoknowisthatitistherightchoice-itmarrieswithourvalues,ourvisionandourbeliefs.Itistherightthingtosay.Itistherightthingtodo.We’reambitiousandwewillmakeithappen.

Weliveinadifferentworld-certainlyveryunliketheonewegrewupin.Andifbehavioursdonotchange,theworldasweknowitwillceasetoexist.Resourcesarerunningdryandit’stimetochoosetherightdirection-achoiceforchangeandtoshowwereallycare.It’salsoourduty-toourselves,ourfellowcitizensandfuturepopulationsoftheworld.Wehavearesponsibilitythatwecannotshirkordeny.

There’salotofpersuasiveresearchthatclearlydemandsabehaviouralchange-amoreresponsibleapproachtohumanityandEarthmatters.There’salsoplentyofevidencetosuggestthattheICTindustrycantakethelead.TheQurius‘vision’clearlystatesthatwecareandwewanttomakeadifference.Sowewillbeatechnologycompany,inspiredbyinnovationandwillingtomakethedifficultchoices,tobothshowthatwecareandhelpmakethedifference.Inachangingworld,it’stimetomakeachange.

A Commercially Sound ChoiceWeareconvincedthatthisvision-thismoralchoice-willnotonlycreateworth,butwilltransformthecompanyintoamorevaluableandresponsiblememberofaglobalcommunity-that’snotonlywhatwewanttobe,it’swhatwehavetobe.

Wealsobelievethatwantingtobe100percentsustainableisn’tanythingspecial-andnorshoulditbe,itshouldbecommonplace,standardandnormalbehaviourinanyorganization.Unfortunately,thisisn’talwaysthecase.Alltoooftenthecostimplicationsor,morefrequently,theperceivedcostimplicationspreventcompaniesfromtravellingthesustainabilityroad.

Weaimtodemonstratethatbeingafullysustainablecompanywillnotcreatecostsbutdrivesustainableprofit.Forus,it’saboutemphasisingthethree‘Ps’:People,PlanetandProfit.Andtakingthebroaderview,thisisaperfectlylogicalargument.Ourapproachwillincreaseprofitabilitybecausetheambition,theinitiativeandpracticalimplementationofthesustainabilityprogrammewillattractlike-mindedtalentandorganizationstoworkandpartnerwithus.Wefirmlybelievewecanandwillattractnewcolleaguesaswellasnewcustomers.

Someoftheseorganizationswillbeatsimilarstagesoftheirsustainabilitylifecycle,othersmaywanttolearnfrom,andshare,ourexperiencesandthechallengeswearesuretofaceonthejourneyahead-butaboveall,wewillallhavethesamesenseofcommunity.Andwearefullyawarethatwearenotmakingcorporatelifeeasybutthen,theworldisnoteasy.Key Business Drivers Remain UnchangedIt’simportanttoemphasisethatQurius’businessdriverswillnotchange.Profitabilityandcashflowwillremainthecompassesthatsteerourorganization.Butweknowthatmakingtherightchoiceswillleadtoincreasedprofitability.It’soneofourcentralgoalstobuildamorestrategicrelationshipwithallofourcustomers-describedinthenextchapter,‘OpeningDoors.’

Inthischangingworld,weknowthatwecanonlysurvivewithhealthyprofitsandwealsorealisethatthereisnoinfinitegrowthtoprofitability.Butneitheristhereaneedforinfinitegrowth.“Enoughisenough”,asthefamousDutchentrepreneurEckartWintzenusedtosay.

Butourdreamtobecomeanimportantopinionformerandleaderinourfieldofbusiness,demandsacompanyofstatureandsize.Tocommandrespectistheresultofouractions,butweneedtobeasizeableorganizationtohaveavoiceandwalkinafieldofgiants-andbeheard.

WearenotoneofthemanycommodityICTsuppliers.Nordowewishtobeone-it’sneitherpartofourstrategy,norconsistentwithourvalues,visionorambitions.Anotherreasontoavoidthatmarketisasimpleoneof‘smartbusiness’-therevenuesinthecommodity,lowmargin,businesssimplywillnotsustainorbuildourcompanyintoasustainableeconomically-viableentity.

Everyresearchpaperoranalystreportdescribingthefutureaddressesavarietyofimportantstrategicissuestoourcustomersandpotentialcustomers.It’sclearthatmanyofourcustomers’decisionmakersareworriedabouttheirfutureandtheirsurvival.Howcantheymakesurethattheircompanyororganizationwillstillbeinbusinessandviablefiveyearshence?

Thestrategicissuestheyfaceare,amongothers;Sustainability• andtheneedtocomplywithgovernmentregulation;Innovation• inproductdevelopmentandmarketapproach;Social innovation• inthewayorganizationsandpeoplework(oftencalledTheNewWayofWorking).

Toputitbluntly;todayourcustomersarelookingatsurvivalandthemaindilemmaishowtoachieveit.Theyallunderstandthatwithinfiveyearsfromnow,everycompanyandorganizationwillhavetocomplywithnewandexistingsustainabilityrulesandregulations.Withoutcompliance,theywillnotbeawardedprojects,theywillnotselltheirproducts,andtheywillgooutofbusiness.Quriuscanhelptoanswerthefundamentalquestions.Wehavechosentobethethoughtleaderandopinionformerinthisfield.Wehaveelectedtoentertheuncertainworldof100percentsustainability.
