Aquatics Policy:
TEST * MARk * PROTECTAt the SOUTH SHORE YMCA, we are committed to
keeping all patrons as safe as possible while swimming.
As such we have implemented a swim safety program
in the Aquatics Department called Test * Mark *Protect. All children under 14 will be given a swim Test.Based on the swim test, or their age, individuals will be
given a colored band to wear in the pool that will Markwhat areas of the pool they may use. Using this system
will help us further Protect the children who use our pool.
Swim test results will be stored and members will also receive a colored
membership tag to bring with them to the pool to receive their bracelet. This
will allow a convenient way for us to know each child’s color and swim ability
each time they arrive at our pool or the Y. Swim Tests will not need to happen
every time you come to swim unless the child wants to try for a higher level
or their swim ability has changed drastically.
For questions or more detailed information regarding this program,
please contact the SOUTH SHORE YMCA Aquatics Department:
QUINCY BRANCH: 617-479-8500 — Stephanie Higgins, ext. 177
or Felix Hor, ext. 176
EMILSON BRANCH: 781-829-8585 — Jill McCusker, ext. 238
or Tom Roffey, ext. 243
Preschoolers Guided Discoveryof the Water
We are very excited in our new state of the art facility to roll out changes within
our Aquatics Department. Our preschool swim program will no longer be using
bubbles. Our new shallow water pool is a perfect learning environment for these
youngsters to make progress.
The preschooler’s ability to learn and adjust to the water will be enhanced by
being able to explore the water where they can comfortably stand, guided by
their instructor. Our shallow water pool ranges from 32” to 48” at its deepest.
If your child has not participated in swim lessons anywhere during the fall it
would be most beneficial to have them evaluated. This way we would know
where they would comfortably fit in our new program. Our program will now
closely match our sister branch, the EMILSON YMCA, who has not used bub-
bles in quite some time.

persons with disabilities who are interested in a structured exercise program. Our program
serves individuals that need specialized, adaptive exercise equipment and/or one-on-one assistance.
Volunteer training partners will assist participants with workouts designed to improve or maintain physical ability to stay active
in sports, recreation, or activities of daily living. A volunteer will be provided based on availability, however participants are
encouraged to provide their own volunteer.
*NOTE: This program is recreational in nature and not to be considered rehabilitation
For more information:Call Sheryl Rosa, Partnership Program Director at (617) 479-8500, ext. 148 or [email protected].
Communication skills necessary to understand, respond, and follow instructions are required for safe
participation in the program. The Partnership Program Director will design the member’s exercise program
and train the volunteer. Each participant is subject to an assessment of appropriate mental and physical
skills required to safely participate in a physical fitness program at the SOUTH SHORE YMCA.
