Spring rye Drill Arantes at 100 Kg / ha from February onwards. This can be cut or grazed during the summer. Is quicker to grow and regrow than Westerwolds but needs replacing in August. Westerwolds For immediate silage production this summer the only solution is to drill Westerwolds. Use 35 kg / ha from late March onwards. Take a couple of cuts and then resume normal rotation. They can be drilled straight or at a reduced rate with perennial ryegrass for summer grazing. Kale Use the variety Pinfold. A seed rate of 4-5 kg / ha should be sufficient. The target plant population / sq. m is 70. For fertiliser and herbicides talk to your Agrii agronomist. Flea beetle will be worse in dry years but the risk should always be considered. Cruiser treated seed is available. Grazing kale has a production cost of about 3.7p / litre. Tyfon Can be sown in April and will be available from July onwards. If lightly grazed, regrowth will be 4-6 weeks. Seed rate is 5 kg / ha. While the D value and protein is similar to Kale, the dry matter is only 10%. Green Manure As an alternative to White Mustard use Adios Fodder Radish. This can be used in a rape rotation, as it is resistant to Club Root and many host nematodes. Drill at 20 kg / ha. This is late flowering but DO NOT LET IT SET SEED. Spring drilling White Mustard means creating a high plant population so the stems remain thin. There is no frost to kill the plants so it will have to be cut and incorporated. Use 15 kg / ha. There will be some biofumigation effect as the plants break down. DO NOT LET IT SET SEED. Nitrogen production The most vigorous legume to grow would be Red Clover. The crop is only going to be in the ground for a maximum of 4 months. Drill at 12 kg / ha. Spring vetches are very vigorous growers and good nitrogen fixers. They don’t like heavy wet soils so the Red Clover looks a better bet. Drill at 75 kg / ha. Agrii produces 80% of the seed for Master Leys on local farms. We are independent of grass breeders, selecting the best varieties we can grow to create the best mixtures. This also enables us to have greater quality control. As you can see below our germination % is at least 10% MORE than demanded by FERA.

2 high quality silage cuts and can then be grazed. It is more cost effective to put Cut Master down for 4 years than use 2 reseeds of Silage Master.

2.0 kg AberWolf Intermediate

2.0 kg Solomon (T) Intermediate

3.0 kg Red Clover Blend

13.0 kg per acre

Includes 3 kg of Red Clover for extra protein production.Red clovers are used to increase yield and protein levels in short term leys. They don’t leave any more residual N than White Clovers.

13.0 kg per acre Mean 29 May

Gives 1 high quality silage cut and then 3 grazing cycles OR 5/6 grazing cycles starting in late March/early April. Excellent sward density for persistency under varying managements. Includes Timothy for early spring growth and White Clover for added palatability.

We have a non-clover option which contains 3.0 AberStar.

A dual-purpose ley originating in the South-West, having excellent crown rust resistance and producing high levels of growth and quality throughout the season in most situations. An average ‘67D’ date of late May provides insurance for a delayed fi rst cut.

Don’t drill clover if you struggle to keep it. Good regrowth after 1st cut. Good autumn grazing Excellent sward density for persistency under varying managements.

Varieties selected for grazing performance. Very goodforage quality and digestibility. Excellent sward density to withstand high grazing pressure and White Clover blend to withstand heavy grazing by cattle or sheep.

SpecialsIf you cannot see the mixture you require please discuss with your agronomist and we can create a special for you.

Farmers often question the value of reseeding. Below are the yields in dry matter tonnes / acre of an old sward compared with the 1st year of a new ley. The yield increase is huge and easily pays for the reseed.

Clover Blends We use clover blends to keep clover whatever the management and weather conditions

White clovers are used to increase palatability and reduce N usage in grazing. They last longer than Red Clovers but don’t yield less.

Medium leaved AberHerald, AberDai and AberConcord will withstand sheep grazing.

Large leaved Aran and Riesling will withstand cattle grazing and silage production.
