Cruiser treated seed is available. Grazing kale has a production cost of about 3.7p / litre. Tyfon Can be sown in April and will be available from July onwards. If lightly grazed, regrowth will be 4-6 weeks. Seed rate is 5 kg / ha. While the D value and protein is similar to Kale, the dry matter is only 10%. Green Manure As an alternative to White Mustard use Adios Fodder Radish. This can be used in a rape rotation, as it is resistant to Club Root and many host nematodes. Drill at 20 kg / ha. This is late flowering but DO NOT LET IT SET SEED. Spring drilling White Mustard means creating a high plant population so the stems remain thin. There is no frost to kill the plants so it will have to be cut and incorporated. Use 15 kg / ha. There will be some biofumigation effect as the plants break down. DO NOT LET IT SET SEED. Nitrogen production The most vigorous legume to grow would be Red Clover. The crop is only going to be in the ground for a maximum of 4 months. Drill at 12 kg / ha. Spring vetches are very vigorous growers and good nitrogen fixers. They don’t like heavy wet soils so the Red Clover looks a better bet. Drill at 75 kg / ha. White clovers are used to increase palatability and reduce N usage in grazing. They last longer than Red Clovers but don’t yield less.
