DESIGN FEATURES 304/316L STAINLESS STEEL GRADE 304 One of the most versatile and commonly used stainless steels on the market, Grade 304 stainless steel is the most standard used alloy of this type. Essentially, Grade 304 is an austenitic chromium alloy which is also known as an “18/8″ stainless as the makeup of the steel is 18% chromium and 8% nickel. 304 grade is also cheaper than 316 grade. The chromium content promotes the material’s considerable resistance to the effects of corrosion and oxidation. The stainless steel alloy resists most oxidising acids and will withstand ordinary rusting though this does not mean that the steel will not tarnish over time. The steel needs to be cold worked to generate higher tensile strength. For valves which are welded heavily, postweld annealing may be necessary to provide maximum corrosive resistance. Type 304 Stainless Steel has excellent welding and deep drawing characteristics. APPLICATIONS OF GRADE 304 STAINLESS STEEL Grade 304 can also be found in heat exchangers, chemical containers, pipelines and throughout the food industry. We had a similar situation a few years ago which I would like to share with you
Both A216 grade WCB and WCC are in the cast steel variety used as valve bodies
ASME codes for Flanges (B165) and Valves (B1634) have material groups which are tied withASTM materials like A216 Grade WCB (material group 11) and A216 Grade WCC (material group12)
In ASME B165 and B1634 each material group is provided with an allowable pressure limit tablecorresponding to Pressure class (150 Lbs 300 Lbs 600 Lbs and so on) and also as a function oftemperature
In one of our power plant project (it was in natural gas supply pile) the combination of pressuretemperature and material class of A216 Grade WCB required 600 Lbs Control valve (B1634) as 300Lbs could not marginally meet the desired pressure at the specific temperature
However using A216 WCC as valve body we could meet the pressure shy temperature combination in300 Lbs class Control valve
The reputed US manufacturer of Control valve offered the 300 Lbs welded end type in WCC material
It is my observation that Control valves are available in WCC body construction in addition to morestandard WCB type

We had a similar situation a few years ago which I would like to share with you
Both A216 grade WCB and WCC are in the cast steel variety used as valve bodies
ASME codes for Flanges (B165) and Valves (B1634) have material groups which are tied withASTM materials like A216 Grade WCB (material group 11) and A216 Grade WCC (material group12)
In ASME B165 and B1634 each material group is provided with an allowable pressure limit tablecorresponding to Pressure class (150 Lbs 300 Lbs 600 Lbs and so on) and also as a function oftemperature
In one of our power plant project (it was in natural gas supply pile) the combination of pressuretemperature and material class of A216 Grade WCB required 600 Lbs Control valve (B1634) as 300Lbs could not marginally meet the desired pressure at the specific temperature
However using A216 WCC as valve body we could meet the pressure shy temperature combination in300 Lbs class Control valve
The reputed US manufacturer of Control valve offered the 300 Lbs welded end type in WCC material
It is my observation that Control valves are available in WCC body construction in addition to morestandard WCB type

We had a similar situation a few years ago which I would like to share with you
Both A216 grade WCB and WCC are in the cast steel variety used as valve bodies
ASME codes for Flanges (B165) and Valves (B1634) have material groups which are tied withASTM materials like A216 Grade WCB (material group 11) and A216 Grade WCC (material group12)
In ASME B165 and B1634 each material group is provided with an allowable pressure limit tablecorresponding to Pressure class (150 Lbs 300 Lbs 600 Lbs and so on) and also as a function oftemperature
In one of our power plant project (it was in natural gas supply pile) the combination of pressuretemperature and material class of A216 Grade WCB required 600 Lbs Control valve (B1634) as 300Lbs could not marginally meet the desired pressure at the specific temperature
However using A216 WCC as valve body we could meet the pressure shy temperature combination in300 Lbs class Control valve
The reputed US manufacturer of Control valve offered the 300 Lbs welded end type in WCC material
It is my observation that Control valves are available in WCC body construction in addition to morestandard WCB type

Carbon steel valves are kept in stock in forged ASTM A105 and itrsquos cast equivalent ASTMA216shyWCB The EuropeanDIN equivalent is C228DIN17243 (10460) ASTM A216shyWCC is also available ex stock and on an indent basis ASTM A216 WCC has a slightly higher pressuretemperature rating than A216 WCB as it has a higher yield strength and a slightly higher manganese content A216 LCC is basically the same asA216 WCC except it is charpies impact tested at shy46ordmC for low temperature service (Global Supply Line stock A216 LCC triple conforming toWCB LCB and WCC) Refer to low temperature carbon steel overview at this website (go to link below) LCC is a better casting than WCB due toitrsquos higher density A105 and WCB are for non corrosive service applications from shy29ordmC (shy20ordmF) to 427ordmC (800ordmF) for petrochemicals gas watersteam and general industrial applications For H2S Sour Service Global Supply Line stocks carbon steel valves fully conforming to NACEMR0175ISO 15156 This is specified for petroleum natural gas and geothermal production services containing small amounts of H2S For higherpercentages of H2S Global Supply Line also stocks upstream wellhead corrosion resistant alloy valves and chokes manufactured in chromeshymoly 4140 and 4130 that resists sulfide stress corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement cracking A105 and WCB are compatible with A234 WPBfittings and ASTM A106API5LB line pipe
