Color and Shade Variation DetectionFor melange and colored yarns, avoiding deviations in color and shade are critical. Even the smallest variations – which the human eye can barely see – are detected and cleared, for better fabric quality.

Polypropylene clearingNew sensor technology improves polypropylene detection enormously. Smaller, shorter and brighter contaminants can be reliably identified and cleared, leading to higher efficiency in polypropylene clearing. This is yet another means of reducing the number of cuts for the same quality level.

Periodic fault clearingPeriodic faults are among the most disturbing problems in fabric. The Periodic Fault feature (PF) detect these defects at all wavelengths and removes them.

Vegetable clearingThe yarn clearers recognize cellulose-based contaminant or ‘vegetable matter’ which is not regarded as disturbing for applications where the yarn or fabric is to be bleached. Vegetable clearing improves productivity for spinners by distinguishing between different types of foreign material in cotton.

Contamination clearingSmart technology uses multi-color LEDs to classify foreign-matter separately into colored foreign fibers and ‘mostly non-disturbing’ vegetable material. Troubleshooting with expensive clearer cuts is now outdated, thanks to preventive yarn clearing with USTER® QUANTUM 3. In-line monitoring of 100 % of yarn has developed, with intelligent connections which open the textile mill’s optimization potential in many ways.

Spinning mills rarely calculate the operational costs of yarn clearers over a ten-year period. A spinning mill of 500 winding positions might spend more than USD 3.5 million in operational costs over this period, at a conservative estimate. Control incoming contamination with Total Contamination ControlThe proven technology of USTER® JOSSI VISION SHIELD and USTER® QUANTUM 3 eliminates foreign-matter at both ends of the yarn production process. Early ejections to control the level of contaminants in fabrics, and yarn classifications for checking remaining contaminants in yarns, reveal optimization potential. At winding, cuts can be saved and a lower level of remaining contaminants in yarn achieved in parallel.

Maximize ringframe productivity with Ring Spinning OptimizationA comprehensive speed curve analysis, with its impact on quality throughout cop build-up, is an element of the improved method of optimizing ring spinning performance. This is where USTER® QUANTUM 3 comes in, with its data flowing into the Ring Spinning Optimization Value Module of USTER® QUALITY EXPERT. RSO relies on the yarn clearer data, processing it intelligently to allow spinners to select correct machine settings for higher production yields and maintain quality at the required levels. This reduces quality variations over the cop and improves winding performance.

Stop poor quality production, instead of cutting it USTER® RSO 3D focuses on individual quality data for each spindle position, enabling quality mapping across the ring spinning machine. This helps to identify outlier sides, sections or spindles, as well as supporting maintenance decisions.

Collaborating seamlessly with Muratec QPRO EX/FPRO EX, Spin Inspector and USTER® SENTINEL, USTER® QUANTUM 3 reports outlier quality data, to activate the Roving Stop of individual spindle positions where a quality problem is detected. Yarn prognosis for preventing claims Spinners are increasingly keen to see quality from the perspective of the customer, the yarn user, to understand the issues concerning weaving and knitting and to prevent issues such as claims before the yarn is shipped to customers. The combination of USTER® QUANTUM 3 with USTER® TENSOJET and USTER® QUALITY EXPERT provides an accurate prognosis for weaving performance, based on an easy-to-understand grading system. The prognosis requires no fabric samples and offers the possibility to test all produced lots at practically no cost. Practical feedback from mills suggests that the prognosis reflects actual performance in warping and looms.

Anniversary Edition – packed with features

USTER introduced the USTER® QUANTUM 3 Anniversary Edition to celebrate its long success in automatic yarn clearing with customers. The edition includes some very powerful features as standard, while also introducing the innovative Core Yarn Cleaning and Color/Shade Variation Detection as new optional features.

Based on popular demand from spinners, this edition, with all the special features, has been extended beyond the promised end date.

Advanced classificationSome defects once regarded as tolerable are no longer acceptable today. USTER® QUANTUM 3 Anniversary Edition now includes information on new advanced classes correlating to USTER® CLASSIMAT 5. Based on this, users can also customize classes and inspect specific defects.

In-line hairiness measurementHairiness variations in yarn can cause cloudiness in finished fabric. USTER® QUANTUM 3 Anniversary Edition offers in-process measurement of true yarn hairiness – so outlier bobbins can be taken out. Using hairiness monitoring, mills with linked winders can also inspect the condition of rings and travelers. The foreign-matter clearing module is a precondition to benefit from this vital information for maintenance.

Smart Limits: double-check with splice distribution Smart Limits – recommended clearing limits at the touch of a button – are based on the YARN BODY™ and ensure quality. But this also means that no cuts are made in the ‘normal’ yarn body, which has been proven in extensive mill trials to save a significant number of unnecessary cuts. In fact, in many cases it has been shown to offer better quality with fewer cuts! And saving cuts means saving costs.

Smart Limits are even smarter with the USTER® QUANTUM 3 Anniversary Edition. The system checks that clearing limits are aligned with splice distribution. Alarms indicate possible problems, for enhanced quality and winder efficiency.

Connectivity to the Total Testing Center™USTER® QUANTUM EXPERT 3 is the link between USTER® QUANTUM 3 Anniversary Edition and the Total Testing Center™ of USTER® TESTER 6. This gives spinners a total mill overview, so they can trace quality exceptions by combining data from the clearer with all processes. Core Yarn ClearingCore yarn clearing uses unique USTER® sensor combinations to identify core component that is either missing (MC) or off- center (OC) at a significant level and over long lengths. The detection of off-center core is possible for all capacitive (CF) and optical clearers (OF), while the feature to detect missing core is available only for capacitive clearers (CF). The Core Yarn feature also requires the Foreign-Matter option.

Color and Shade Variation Detection Color mix-ups and shade differences are big issues. USTER’s advanced Foreign-Matter Sensor can now detect these faults. The new Shade Variation (SV, CSV) feature with USTER® QUANTUM 3 Anniversary Edition automatically detects and clears even very small divergences from the base yarn shade. Bobbin mix-up could still occur, but would not affect the package.
