LET’S GET INTIMATE–

When I was a wee child, my friends and I

always loved to draw words in unique ways.

Instead of focusing on the spelling tests

themselves, we concentrated for the majority

of the time on how exactly to display that this

paper was, indeed, a ‘spelling test’. I would

meticulously draw out the letters to the head-

line, some weeks making the letters square,

sometimes cursive, and others, as small as I

possibly could. Drawing words, headlines, and

names became a hobby of mine.

As I grew older, I came to realize that each

person’s handwriting is very, very unique. I re-

alized that with my mood, and with my friends’

moods, our handwriting changed. At times it

was huge and excited, and during other times

it was small and meek. Our emotions ruled

our beings, and, consciously or subconsciously,

our handwriting didn’t miss the memo. Hand

lettering has been an unending, life-long love

affair of mine.

So, you see where my obsession began, how

it evolved, and where I am today. Naturally,

when given a project based on Public Typog-

raphy, I drifted almost subconsciously to hand

lettering. Now, don’t get me wrong– I love

machine-made typography. I will rant and

rave about Helvetica just as much as the next

person, and I couldn’t imagine modern society

today without our fonts loitering the streets.

Nonetheless, each person’s handwriting is

much, much more intimate than the cold, rigid

forms that we have come to adore and utilize.

Handwriting is unique in its nature that no

two peoples handwriting is exactly the same.

The ebb and flow of each letter changes from

person to person, there are variations of size,

weight, slant, line length, x-height, ascenders

and descenders, etc. I firmly believe that our

‘personal typefaces’ are a view into our subcon-

scious. Graphology backs up my crazy, just in

case you doubted me.

Graphology is the study of handwriting and

handwriting analysis in relation to human

psychology. It is now an accepted and increas-

ingly used technique to assess people. It is an

effective and reliable indicator of the physical,

mental, and emotional state of the writer.

Graphology can identify approximately 1500

distinct features of handwriting to reveal an

individual’s personality and characteristics.

Though there are hundreds of personality

types, I strive to break them down into three

categories: cool, calm, and classy. Throughout

each chapter, I will introduce you a few of my

friends and you’ll understand their disposi-

tion through descriptions of them. Within

their individual sections, I will analyze their

handwriting using graphology and show how

it clearly represents each friends personality.

Have fun, and don’t be afraid to be a little

intimate with us.

MEET MEGHAN FADOK

By some miracle, ‘COOL’ WAS PRO-GRAMMED into Meghan Fadok’s DNA. We

think she has literally been cool since she

was in the womb. If Twitter was available 24

years ago, her BIRTH WOULD HAVE BEEN TRENDING. Our friend doesn’t know what

‘nerd’ or ‘outcast’ feels like; she has always

been in the ‘In-Crowd’.

By the time Meghan was in the 4th grade she

was already a STAR JAZZ PERFORMER, all

the little girls wanted to be her BFF, natu-

rally. The cute boys in class always liked her.

Meghan was ahead of the game before most

kids even knew that there was a game.

Her favorite band is THE KILLERS and

her favorite show was Sons of Anarchy. She

seems to have all the COOLEST FRIENDS (US), and we do all the coolest things together.

Meghan got her nose pierced when she came

to college and dyed her hair various shades

from blonde to black within her first year. The

girl is obviously FEARLESS, CONFIDENT, EXPRESSIVE with her style and interests.

Along with being so cool, Meghan knows

everything there is to know about the city. She

has an INTUITION ABOUT THE WORLD around her that is unmatched. Our friend is

extremely personable- she can get along with

absolutely anybody. Her sense of humor and

ability to laugh at herself, and other mishaps

of life, help others to relax and take life easy,

like she does. Meghan reeks of cool to her very

core. The only thing the rest of us can do is

TRY AND IMITATE.

Using the science of Graphology, we can

look into Meghan’s character traits simply by

analyzing her handwriting. From this exert we

can see that the stem of the ‘t’ is of average

height, revealing that she has justified respect

and self esteem for her conduct. The curve of

her lowercase ‘m’s and ‘n’s reveal Meghan’s

ability to arrange information in her mind

into logical, step by step sequences- which

explains how Meghan is so street savvy.

Meghan’s tendency to have an upward word

baseline represents her optimism and shows

that she expects the best to happen. The

stroke pressure of Meghan’s handwriting

also shows strong passions and desires, an

abundance of energy and vitality, and shows

that she is proactive. The large size of our

friend’s handwriting also displays that she

feels she belongs to ‘the’ group, and she

might get distracted with attention. The wav-

iness of the lettering also shows Meghan’s

sense of humor; it shows the amusement

Meghan gets from contrasting jokes and

reality. Meghan’s fluid movement from letter

to letter shows her sense of easy and laid-

back nature.

MEET MATT DACUNHA

Matt DaCunha was one of the only white peo-

ple who attended his high school. We can only

assume that it was during that time of his life

that Matt learned to be SO FREAKING COOL.

He knows how to joke around with the best

of them; his wit no one can match. He carries

a SWAG AND CONFIDENCE around with

him, as though he doesn’t have a care in the

world, which is probably what made him so

popular through¬out high school and college.

Matt seems to know everyone by name, and

everyone DEFINITELY KNOWS HIM. Though he’s studying to get an M.D. in

Dermatology, he is one of the most laid-back

people we’ve ever seen. We don’t know if he

EVER EVEN STUDIES, since he spends most

of his time with people hanging out. It can

seem like he doesn’t even care about grades

and college, but he get’s straight A’s! Mostly,

WE THINK IT’S MAGIC. He maintains his

cool demeanor through his studies just as well

as he does when he’s around us.

Matt is truly the joke-ster of the group and real-

ly keeps us all from getting too tense. He isn’t

afraid to make that smart remark or say what

everyone else is thinking- HE’S TOO COOL TO CARE. Matt isn’t defined by anyone, other

than his own description of himself. He is an

MMA fighter and plays pretty much any sport

that involves team-work. His confidence in

himself and his abilities is a characteristic that

not many have, though many wish to gain it.

Matt has truly and phenominally mastered the

ART OF BEING COOL.

Using the science of Graphology, Matt’s

personality can be unfolded by simply

analyzing his handwriting. The first and most

noticeable distinction in Matt’s handwriting is

that most all of his words align to a consis-

tent baseline. This represents Matt’s ability

to have an unchanging approach towards

circumstances and conditions; his mentality

stays consistent and steadfast through any

ups and downs. The distance between the

words in our friend’s handwriting shows his

clarity of thought and displays his apprecia-

tion for mental and physical freedom. Matt’s

smooth x-height shows his flexible mentality

and ability to easily follow the subject at hand,

which is perhaps why he is a genius but

socializes with us just as easily. On each of

his ‘g’s and ‘y’s, Matts letters break away and

do not come back up to reach the baseline.

This shows his laid-back mindset; he feels

no pressure or urgency to do anything. Matt

is suave and taking life as it comes, with a

down-to-earth mindset and effortless ease.

MEET ADAM WEAVER

IF THE SKY WERE FALLING around him,

Adam Weaver wouldn’t blink an eye. His

demeanor is completely calm and incredibly

steady. We’re not completely sure why, other

than we know about his insane addiction to

techno music, which has so much substance

that anyone could be QUIETED BY IT. An-

other possible reason for Adam’s uber-calm

ambiance could be because he grew up with

his energetic, bouncy twin brother, Jonny. The

two brothers are obviously identical; the only

way we know who’s who is by their stark per-

sonality differences. Adam is extremely CHILL, RESERVED, AND INSIGHTFUL. The way we

see it, everyone needs a friend like him.

Our friend Adam never picks sides. He’s never

biased and it seems as though he never judges.

He is truly the patient FLY ON THE WALL in

many scenarios; he sees logic and reason while

others are emotional and irrational. Adam is

definitely on the quiet and observant side, but

he is always thinking. He will SPEAK WHEN IT IS NEEDED, and voice concerns, encour-

agement, and opinions when the time is right.

He’s just calculated like that; and he always

knows when he should speak and keep silent.

When it comes down to it, Adam is also a

total goof. He is quietly very strange, and we

think he secretly loves it. He never misses a

good Lawrence concert, and he aspires to be a

STORM CHASER. Sometimes we think this

is why he moved to Kansas- to catch the wild

storms. Every once in awhile he’ll take his

little blue car and speed out to the biggest and

baddest storm clouds. HE STOPS, LISTENS, AND MOVES based on where he intuitively

knows the storm is headed. The strength

within Adam is contained and controlled rigor-

ously; nothing will stop him. He is INTUITIVE, PATIENT, AND CALM.

Using the science of Graphology, identifying

Adam’s personality traits is a breeze. Most

noticeably, Adams handwriting is of average

size. This means he is well adjusted and

adaptable; he can adapt and shift to whatev-

er circumstance necessary. The spacing that

Adam places between his lines references

his clarity of thoughts- he thinks about each

item separately and doesn’t want to confuse

or entangle them. Adam’s light stoke pres-

sure indicates how he doesn’t expend all of

his energy on daily tasks; he probably has

more energy than he’s showing. The spacing

between each of his letters shows emotional


confinement. This displays how, along with

his calm nature, Adam keeps his emotions to

himself. The spacing also shows that Adam

is intuitive nature as there is a sudden shift

from letter to letter. Another interesting find

in this lettering is the space between the

initial capital letter and the rest of the word.

This shows Adam’s self-awareness and

reveals how Adam observes and reflects on

self-importance of himself and those around

him. His handwriting resembles his ability to

be calm and non-reactive, his intution, and

his steadfast attitude in all circumstances.

MEET LYDIA SNELL

Under synonyms of ‘calm’ in the Dictionary,

you’ll find A PICTURE OF LYDIA SNELL.

Lydia is a classic example of what it means

to be calm. Sometimes we think it’s because

she grew up with two extremely energetic

older brothers. We assume they were a huge

handful, so LYDIA LEARNED TO BE CALM, but she’s a huge goof on the inside, too. You

see, Lydia has this awesome balance of QUIRK AND POISE. If you know her at all, you know

she’s hilarious and will speak her mind when

need be. If you didn’t know her, you’d simply

think she was a polite, peaceful young lady.

Along with her INNER SPUNK and outer

quietness, Lydia is one fierce chick. She dances

for the University and is on scholarship for

her abilities. In my opinion, Lydia SPEAKS THROUGH DANCE. She is extremely expres-

sive through the art form; movement is her

language. For Lydia, it seems as though words

are unnecessary; she communicates through

choreography and NONVERBAL ACTIONS.Lydia is sure of herself, her talents, and her

future. She knows that hard work can get her

anywhere, and that NO ONE WILL HAND HER SUCCESS. Her confidence does not

give her a huge ego, nor does she see herself

for something she is not. Lydia is extremely

self-aware and understands her limits, though

she continuously pushes them. For Lydia,

BREVITY IS KEY. Through her quiet playful-

ness, Lydia embodies what it means to be calm.

Using the science of Graphology we can

identify Lydia’s innate nature through her

handwriting. First and foremost we notice the

size of her lettering. The large letters show

that she is people-oriented and outgoing-

which completely represents her goofy side.

The wide spacing of her letters indicates that

Lydia doesn’t like to be crowded and loves

her freedom emotionally and physically. The

fact that Lydia’s letters have almost no slant

shows that she is logical and practical. Each

of her letterforms are completely enclosed,

displaying that Lydia is slightly less open

emotionally and relatively private when shar-

ing personal feelings. Looking at the cross

on the ‘t’ bar, we see that Lydia crosses

almost directly in the middle, showing that

she has visionary but attainable goals in

life. She probably feels confident about her

abilities and directs her efforts towards them

with means to achieve them. Her consistent

ascending strokes display self-control of her

inner feelings. It shows that her actions are

more based on reason than emotion. Lydia’s

handwriting shows her laid-back nature, con-

MEET LINDSAY MARKO

As if you couldn’t already tell through her

photographic appearance, Lindsay Marko is

the EPITOME OF A CLASSIC young lady. In

all situations, Lindsay is polite and feminine.

Lindsay is extremely bashful about unladylike

things; she turns tomato-red whenever an

instance arises that is uncomfortable to her.

Our friend very seriously is one of the most

naïve girls we’ve ever met. She simply expects

people to be kind to her, and she radiates

goodness and kindness because of it. We don’t

think Lindsay has a mean bone in her body,

and she BEAUTIFULLY SENSITIVE to the

small things in life.

Of anyone I know Lindsay definitely

deserves THE PRINCESS AWARD. She

is so goodhearted, pure, and simple. She

always, always does the right thing, and will

be the first to apologize in any circumstance.

Lindsay has a classiness to her that DIFFUS-ES THROUGH HER PERSONALITY. We’ve

decided that this elegance is from a long life

of sidestepping the self-inflicted pains of life.

She never bothered with tons of boyfriends or

cared immensely what she looked like, and she

always BELIEVED WHOLEHEARTEDLY in

herself, regardless of what others thought.

Lindsay never let herself be tainted by the

unreasonable standards of this world. She has

always held onto goodness and positivity.

Classy people like Lindsay don’t always have

the best of circumstances, but they MAKE THE BEST of what they do have. Lindsay has

done just that. Her grace, genuine love for peo-

ple, and SHEER TENDER-HEARTEDNESS

have made her into a very classy friend.

We can look into Lindsay’s character traits

simply by analyzing her handwriting. From

the way Lindsay draws her ‘n’s we see that

she is calculated and logical in her decision

making skills, and thinks in step-by-step

sequences, which shows her ability to weigh

consequences. The baseline of the letters

show our friends’ flexible mindset and ability

to adapt, ever so classily, to changing circum-

stances. Lindsay’s wide letter spacing shows

her vulnerability to readily show her feelings

and emotions at the appropriate times. The

umbrella T-bar in this lettering shows how

she purposes imposes discipline and realistic

MEET COURTNEY GRIFFIN

We all say that Courtney BELONGS IN THE

1950’s because of her classiness. We can’t fig-

ure out why in the world she landed in the 21st

century, but we’ll take it! Courtney grew up with

three other sisters and they were taught to have

GREAT RESPECT themselves, their friends,

and society. I like to think it was really Court-

ney’s mom, Sandra, that raised them all to be so

classy. Sandra holds onto old values like truth

and HONESTY, PURITY AND FEMININITY.

Growing up, Sandra didn’t let Courtney wear

makeup until she was 16 years old. Courtney

also wasn’t allowed to have a boyfriend until she

was 18. Somehow Sandra didn’t make these reg-

ulations a burden to her girls; Courtney came to

adore the concepts, and will continue them with

her children. The guidelines taught Courtney

to sincerely respect HER BEAUTY, HER BODY, AND HER HEART. A classy woman holds

those things to the utmost importance. While

learning these valuable lessons, Sandra also

taught her daughter to never accept less than

she deserved. In fact, she was taught that SHE DESERVED THE BEST, no matter what soci-

ety or insecurity tried to tell her. Our friend has

taught us to respect ourselves and to not settle

for less than we would have dreamed of.

Along with her PERSONAL SOPHISTO-CATION, Courtney is also extremely loving and

considerate of others. Every room she walks

into glows with the energy that she brings. Her

charm and wit are unmatched; her intellect

is what matters most to her- not her latest

Instagram or Facebook status. Courtney has

truly instilled in each of us what it means to be

ELEGANT AND CLASSY, and we all have bene-

fitted from her energetic, witty friendship.

Using the science of Graphology we can

identify Courtney’s innate nature through

her handwriting. One of the first and most

noticeable aspects of her handwriting is the

cap-height of her letters. The cap-height is of

average size, showing that she is confident

about her importance in relation to others,

which is something classy people understand

naturally. The heavy pressure stroke shows

Courtney’s passion and how she readily

proactive. The slant of Courtney’s lettering

shows her ability to react to some circum-

stances emotionally, but it also displays her

classy in day-to-day life, she is also extremely

LET’S WRAP IT UP–

Now that you are acquainted with some of my

friends, I feel like WE KIND OF KNOW EACH OTHER, or at least you know us. I sincerely

thank you for letting us be SO INTIMATE

with you. Surely you have gotten to look into

the lives of my friends, see who they are, and

see how their handwriting is representational

of their personalities. Throughout the book I

hope you have been able to internalize these

HANDWRITING CHARACTERISTICS and

apply your own lettering to a category or two.

Handwriting is greater than merely a quick

way of communicating with pen and paper. It

is more complex than simple letters on a page

and more valuable intellectually than many

other forms of PERSONAL EXPRESSION

outside of the arts. Handwriting communicates

our subconscious and speaks of our character

through letterforms. Our handwriting is much

like OUR FINGERPRINTS- unique to just us.

It tells of mood, temperament, mental states,

personality and character traits, and attitude.
