Principal’s report

Swimming Carnival

Sunshine, sausages, smiles and swimming were all part

of the day at last Thursday’s swimming carnival.

Congratulations to all of the students who participated

in last Wednesday’s carnival. It was wonderful to see

the terrific enthusiasm and sportsmanship displayed.

Whilst our carnival is held to select those competitive

swimmers to go on to the District carnival, our main

focus is on ensuring that all children have the

opportunity to participate. It was especially lovely to

see the fun had by our new Kinder children! My thanks

to Mrs Davis for organising the day. A big thank you

also, to those parents who assisted with timekeeping

and sausage cooking. Special congratulations to this

year’s age champions:

Junior: Cooper Vanzanten, Ella Fitzgerald

11 years: Matilda McDevitt, Joel Crowder

Senior: Lachlan Payne, Daminica Jackson

These children, along with about 12 other students will

now compete at the District carnival at Harden next

Friday – good luck to our team!

Tell Them From Me Student Survey

I am delighted that this term, our school, like many

others in the state, will participate in a Department of

Education and Communities initiative: the Tell Them

From Me student feedback survey. The survey aims to

help improve student learning outcomes and measures

factors that are known to affect academic achievement

and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-

wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and

effective teaching practices.

More information about the survey is available at:

http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to

provide our school with valuable and quick feedback

on what they think about school life, how engaged

they are with school and the different ways that

teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and

around the world have used the Tell Them From Me

survey to help improve how they do things at school.

I want to assure you that the survey is confidential and

school staff will not be able to identify individual

students from their responses. The survey is conducted

online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to

complete. It will be administered during school hours

between 9 March and 2 April. Participating in the

survey is entirely voluntary.

A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the

survey is being sent home with students. If you do not

want your child or children to participate, please return

the form to school by Friday 27 February. Copies of

the form and FAQs are available from the website

above.

Kay

Thumbs up! To all of our wonderful parent helpers at last

Thursday’s swimming carnival – thank you!

To all of our super students for your terrific

behaviour and participation!

What’s happening in our school?

Better Buddies

Our school is part of the Better Buddies program. It is

coordinated by the Alanah and Madeline Foundation, a

national charity keeping children safe from violence.

Through the Better Buddies program the Kindergarten

and Stage 3 children share all sorts of wonderful, fun

activities. Their mascot is Buddy Bear. He symbolizes

the values of friendliness, care, respect, responsibility,

valuing difference and including others.

Stage 3 and Kindergarten enjoy Buddy sessions each

Wednesday afternoon. Last week was a very special

treat – fairy bread making! I’m not sure who enjoyed it

more – the kinder kids or Stage 3!

This week the children got to meet and have fun with

their Buddy Bears (I think Stage 3 might have enjoyed

it just as much by the look of these photos!)

Well done to our Stage 3 students who are doing a

fabulous job as Kinder buddies!

Swimming Carnival

A fantastic day was had by all. Well done to all

students on their behaviour, enthusiasm and

participation. Congratulations to our age champions

and those students competing at Harden next week!

25 metre races proved very popular

Mia can still smile after her race!

(Unfortunately our camera went flat so not many

photos!)

Well done Ella – our Junior girl champion

Home Reading

This year all classes K-6 have been provided with Home

Reading log books. A major part of every child’s Home

Learning is reading. Children should aim to read every

night. We will be presenting Home Reader awards at

our weekly assemblies when students reach various

achievement levels. As well, we will be conducting

some Parent information sessions on how to help your

child with reading later this term.

Reading doesn’t just have to be done using books –

there are so many other sources for children to read,

learn & enjoy

Raiders Visit

All students thoroughly enjoyed the visit from NSW

rugby league and special guest Raider’s player Josh

Papalii. Their discussion covered everything from the

importance of daily exercise, getting involved in sports

and healthy eating – did you know Josh Papaliii eats 15

weetbix every morning?!!

Grace gives Josh some push up tips!

Grace, Daminica, Nick, Patrick & Mr B put in a solid

effort!

This is so much fun!!

Nick & Patrick do the official thanks

Happy Raider’s fans with their signed gear.

P&C News Annual General Meeting

Our first P&C meeting was held on Tuesday. How

wonderful to see a great roll up and some new faces!

Meetings are generally held on the first Tuesday of

each month at 6:30 pm in the staffroom.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 24 February

and will be our Annual General Meeting. All positions

will be declared vacant and we are keen to see some

new faces take up these positions.

Come along with your ideas on fundraising and other

ways we can continue to improve our wonderful

school.

Swimming Carnival BBQ

Thank you to those wonderful parents who assisted

with the BBQ at last week’s swimming carnival. A huge

thank you to IGA for the donation of bread and

sausages!

Reminders

Work Book Fees

Letters regarding work books and associated fees have

been distributed. Your prompt payment is

appreciated.

School Photos

School photos are being done Wednesday 4 March.

Envelopes were sent home this week. Children need to

bring in their envelopes with correct money in them

either before or on photo day. Please ensure that your

child is in correct summer uniform – no sports shirts,

black shoes, white socks for girls, grey socks for boys.

Sibling photo envelopes are available from our office.

Health Spot

What’s in your child’s lunchbox?

Some tips

- Lunch boxes should include:

- Fresh fruit

- Crunchy vegetables

- A meat or protein food such as egg or nuts

- Dairy food such as a cheese stick, reduced fat cheese

and crackers, yoghurt

- Breads

- Water

Healthy sandwiches can be prepared in advance and

frozen if necessary

Cool foods in a refrigerator after cooking before

packing in lunch box

Head Lice Please check your child’s hair

Unfortunately we have had some instances of head lice

in children’s hair. If occurrences are reported to us, or if

staff detect any head lice, a note will be sent home to

all students in a particular class to inform parents &

ask that hair be thoroughly checked. We have a

brochure regarding treatment on our Skoolbag app

and on our website. Your assistance in this matter is

greatly appreciated.

Free Graduated Licensing Scheme

Workshops for Parents of Learner

Drivers in Junee

Young drivers are three times more likely to be

involved in casualty crashes. That's why the Roads and

Maritime Services (formally RTA) has introduced a new

licensing scheme, with more supervised driving

practice for learner drivers.

To help parents in supervising learner drivers, the

Roads and Maritime Services has set up a FREE 2 hour

workshop for parents that offers practical advice on

how to help learner drivers become a safer drivers.

The next free workshop will be held in Junee at the Ex-

Services Club on Tuesday March 17th

from 5.30 pm –

7.30 pm.

Early bookings for the workshop are essential, so

phone on 0434 964 764 now to reserve your place, or

email [email protected]

Boy’s cricket

Good luck to our boys’ cricket team who play Junee

Public in the first round of the PSSA knockout next

Thursday!

Mathletics for everyone

All of our students have been signed

up again this year to the wonderful

Mathletics on-line program. Your

child has 24 hour access to this &

teachers are incorporating it into their

lessons. Mathletics covers all aspects

of our curriculum with students

working at their own level and pace.

The program is extremely engaging

for students – try to include some

Mathletics time each week if possible.

Every child has their own sign-in and

password – if your child has

forgotten, please see their classroom

teacher.
