The advent of large scale offshore wind farms

ProTek™ fl ange covers are designed and
engineered to protect ANSI fl anges and compact
fl anges from failure due to the effects of blast
followed by hydrocarbon jet fi re. The protection
cover also ensures that the fl ange bolts are fully
protected throughout the duration of the jet fi re.
The covers can be provided to meet a range of
different blast and jet fi re scenarios and to fi t to
the full range of standard fl ange sizes.
The fl ange covers are manufactured using
lightweight ProTek™ composite technology
that has been used on several hundred
equipment enclosures currently installed on
onshore plants and offshore installations
in UK, Norway and
the rest of the world.
The ProTek™ fl ange covers are designed for use in
harsh environments encountered offshore with no
degradation in performance offering a low lifecycle
cost for 30 year design life.

ProTek™ fl ange covers provide inherent thermal
insulation, fi re protection and noise reduction
characteristics in accordance with NORSOK
R-004 Classes 5, 6, 7 and 8. Certifi cation of the
product is carried out by Det Norske Veritas (DNV)
or Lloyd’s Register and is based upon full scale
blast testing up to 1.5 barg overpressure and jet
fi re testing carried out for more than 2 hours.
The ProTek™ fl ange covers are designed to
incorporate earthing straps for connection across
the pipe fl anges. The covers are supplied as two
semi-circular mouldings with a simple bolted
connection that permits rapid assembly on site;
the design also allows rapid dismantling and
reassembly of the ProTek™ covers for planned
maintenance inspection of the pipe fl anges.
ProTek™ fl ange covers enclose a pipe fl ange
and bolts and are located upon the pipeline so
that there is no requirement to attach the covers
directly to the fl anges themselves. The structural
properties of the durable ProTek™ composite
laminate support the blast and fi re loads.
