May not want one…
Lets take making a prosthetic finger as an example…
Make a cast of the finger using alginate
Hot wax is poured into the mold
Wax is swirled aroundso it sticks to the
mold
Excess wax is tippedout and wax left
to dry
Alginate cut awayleaving the wax
prosthesis
The finger is colouredand ‘accessorised’
Step 1: Mix 2 scoops of alginate with 40ml water to make a paste – like toothpaste
Step 2: Using the spatula spread the paste into your tube, starting at the lip end
Step 3: Slowly slide in your chosen finger – don’t touch the sides!
Now wait!
Step 4: When the alginate is dry, hold the tube and wiggle your finger to release it
Step 5: Scrape any remaining alginate out of your bowl and into the bin!
Step 6: Mix 2 scoops of plaster of paris with 20ml water to make a liquid – like thick cream
Step 7: Pinch the sides of your bowl and pour the plaster into the mold. Make sure that the plaster is only touching alginate – not your tube.
Step 8: Gently tap the tube on the table to remove air bubbles
Now wait!
Q1: Why are his eyes covered? Q2: What are those black dots?
Prosthetic ear! What do you think?

Step 9: When the plaster is dry you can push the whole thing out of the tube.
Step 10: Slowly, starting at the base of your finger, peel away the alginate to reveal your prosthetic finger
Step 10: Take it home and accessorise it!
