Project Phases Project 1 – Prepare proposal – Fall Semester

Purpose is to win the project Proposal must state why your team is best Must include a Project Management Plan in the proposal Must include your proposed fee

Project 2 – Construct the project – Spring Semester Verify the proposal @ 5% stage Construction phases @ 15, 50, 95, 100% Develop project details & construction drawings Manage & report on status@15, 50, 95,100% Integrate all elements into unified project Prepare display for Design Showcase in April Estimate cost of construction @ 15, 50, 95,100% Prepare and include a construction schedule Turn in written report

Proposal Contents-26.Project Sketch & Layout

Shows boundaries and major features Sketch adds “proposed” size & features All team members should participate in these drawings

7.Design Investigation Report Written Technical Report – consult with advisor Include such items as:

• Problem(s) to be solved in the design• Logic of size of key features• Options considered; cite the pros & cons of each• Applicable codes, ordinances or criteria that will control the project• Cite all technical information to be used • Concept decision – what engineering design method will be used and why

• Constraints – cite any political, environmental or physical limitations

Cost Estimates Conceptual Construction Cost Based on historical data

Itemize components. Use cost per SF or unit pricing data Data from similar project Be sure to update for location & timing

Page 14: Project Management Requirements Prof. Ralph Locurcio, PE Dr. Troy Nguyen, PE.

Cost Estimates Detailed Construction Cost – 50%, 95%, 100%

Due in Project-2 reports Based on actual data Itemize all components More detail as design is completed Obtain pricing for elements online, RS Means,

other. Include all cost elements: materials, labor, logistics See template; all use same format Be sure to summarize cost of entire project Should be 90-95% accurate
