At Eglinton our school expectations are be safe, be respectful and be responsible. Please help us keep our children safe. Our school is a busy place and the safety of our students is paramount. Parents are reminded to assist us when they enter or leave the school during school hours to close the gate. We have a couple of students who take advantage of an open gate. This causes them distress (and our staff as well) as we try to calm them and settle them into routines. In the afternoon, at close of school, the main (office) gate will remain locked and for bus children only. Entry and exit from the school will be by the middle gate. This ensures that all students and families cross Alexander St using the safety of the school crossing. A few quick reminders: Year 7 2021 The Expressions of Interest for Placement in Year 7 2021 in a Government School were distributed to our Year 6 students last Thursday. Parent/Carers please complete and return this form to your child's teacher by Friday 20 March 2020. School Photos School Photo orders will go home with our students today. Families are asked to return your School Photo Order with your child on the day of the School Photos please – Thursday 26 March. Social Media We are very concerned at the moment about the impact of social media on our students. Young minds can be influenced so easily. We ask our parents to supervise their children’s time online and know ‘what’ they are accessing. Games such as Tic Toc are not appropriate for primary age students. Stay engaged and encourage balance Keep an eye on the games, apps and devices your child uses. Chat with your child regularly and help them stay aware of how much time they are spending on different online and offline activities. Include positive things outside the online world in your conversations, such as what they love in life, careers they are interested in and new hobbies. Join in. Play games together as a family, or explore some joint online projects. Rather than being just a solitary activity, online time can then become another way of strengthening connections as well as building social skills. Where possible, avoid limiting online time as a punish- ment as this approach may inflate its importance to children. PROJECT BASED LEARNING
Project-based learning is a student-centred pedagogy that involves a dynamic classroom approach in which it is believed that students acquire a deeper
knowledge through active exploration of real-world challenges and problems.
Last week our Specialist team, Mr Peters, Mrs Hanlon, Mrs Marybeth Smith, Mrs Quinn and Mrs Cluff, accompanied by Mrs O’Rourke attended two days of professional learning on Project Based learning at Hilltop Public School.
Once a fortnight the Specialist team will be engaging in Project Based learning with students K-6 whilst their classroom teachers engage in collaborative planning.
We’re looking forward to sharing the student’s projects without throughout the year.
