INTRODUCTION

Birth-Preparedness and Complication-Readiness(BP/ CR) is to promote maternal and neonatal survival.

DEFINITION:“Birth Preparedness and Complication Readiness” is a strategy which promotes timely use of skilled maternal and neonatal care especially during child birth, based on theory that preparing for child birth and being ready for any complication reduces delays in obtaining this care.

This is basic awareness, which helps in reducing the maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality.

RATIONALE:

Medicine advanced but maternal mortality rate never reached below 100 per 100 000 child births. Many of the complications in maternal deathsand that contribute to perinatal deaths are unpredictable, and their onset can be both sudden and severe. Delay in responding to the onset of labour and such complications has been shown to be one of the major barriers to reducing mortality and morbidity surrounding childbirth.

According to WHO eight studies have shown positive results in birth preparedness and reduction in maternal mortality rate.
