Language and Communication (PLNG001)Thisunitfocusesonstrengtheningbasiclanguageskillstoenablestudents to construct well-structured expressions in writingandoralcommunication.Readingwithcriticalawarenessandextractingimportantviewpointsfromarangeof literaryandexpositorytextstomakenotes,tosummariseandparaphrasetheirunderstandingwillbethecentreoflearning.Awarenessoftheinfluenceofmediainoureverydaylifewillalsobeapartofthelearningandcommunicationprocess.

Communication: Audience and Context (PLNG002)Thestudentsareempoweredwithawell-developedlanguageskilltocommunicatewithconfidencetheirviewsandopinions.To convey information, opinions on contemporary issuesand recognition and analysis of diverse opinions and thevalidityofclaimsarecentraltothiscourse.Studentswillreadinformationaltextsandliteraryworksfromvarioustimeperiodsacrosscultures.Analysisofvisual texts (advertisementsanddocumentaries) and writing for targeted audience will bestressedinthecourse.

Language and Knowledge (PLNG003)TheunitbuildsonthestructuresandconventionsinEnglishtextsthatdeveloptheabilitytouselanguagetoarriveatexpressingindependentviewsandopinions;abletosubstantiate,drawingontheirreadingsofliterary,expositoryandinformationaltextsandskillsofreferencing.Thefocusisonbuildinganappropriatestyleofwritingforacademicpurposes.

Contemporary Business Mathematics (PMTH001)Theunitequipsthestudentwiththeknowledgeandskillstoperform mathematical operations and apply numerical andquantitative approaches in day to day problem solving. Itdeals with arithmetic operations, fractions and conversionsanduseof symbols inplaceofnumbers in simplealgebraiccalculations. Techniques to solving linear equations, plottingof graphs to determine value will be covered. It will alsoconsolidateknowledgeandskillsforquantitativeanalysisandproblemsolving.

Mathematical Techniques and Analysis (PMTH002)Thisunitwillprovideworkingknowledgeofratios,proportionsand percentages. Students work from using simple algebrato calculate financial transactions to using simultaneous orquadraticequationstosolveproblems.Itinvolvesrecognitionofarithmeticandgeometricsequences.Theunitwill includeuseofgraphicalandnumericalmeansforoptimisation,useofmatrixarithmetictosolveproblems.Itwillalsoteachtheskillsneededfordataanalysis,probabilitiesandstatistics.

Statistical Techniques (PMATH003) Thisunitwill teachskills tomake inferencesandpredictionsusing suitable statistical techniques. Students will learndata analysis from tables and graphs, calculatemedian andquartiles and central tendency and determine measures ofdispersions. Contemporary Creative Expressions (Film as Art) (PCCE001)Thisunitprovidesthelearningandpracticalskillsinvolvedinthepursuitofcreativeartsandfilmappreciationessentiallytounderstandtheimpactofvisualartsonsociety.Theunitexplores the ideas behind themaking of films and digitalimagesinanimatedfilms.Theunitalsoassessestheimpactofmusicandsoundeffectsinthemakingofasuccessfulfilm.Studentswill critically review films of different genre andassesswhat elementsmake the films endearing. Studentswill have the opportunity to develop their own ideas andresponsestofilms,documentariesandanimationfilms.Thiscourse is designed to equip students with the necessaryskillsandbasicunderstandingof technicalitiesbehindfilmmakingasanareaofacademicpursuit.

Introduction To Accounting Techniques (PACT001)Accountingisfundamentaltounderstandinghowabusinessoperatesandperforms.Thefirstpartintroducesthedoubleentry system and the concepts of separate entity and thelogicbehindtheaccountingequation.Theuseofdaybookstoorganisebusinessdata to facilitatepostingwill bedealtwith. This will proceed to preparation of simple financialstatements.Thesecondpartwilldealwithdepreciationandallowance for doubtful debts and their impact on financialstatements.Theemphasiswillbeonproceduresandconceptsunderlyingthem.

Accounting Processes and Reports (PACT002)Thisunitbuildsontheknowledgegainedinpreviousmodule(PACT 001). Balance day adjustments on accruals andprepayments will emphasise the importance of accrualsaccounting. Further accounting entries for non-currentassets and accounts receivables will be dealt with. Bankreconciliation procedures will introduce the concept ofcash control. Preparation of accounting reports of servicebusinesses,companiesandmultipledepartmentorganisationswillshowvariationsinthefinancialstatements.Performanceassessment using financial ratios will enable students toappreciate the importance of accounting as a means ofcommunicatingbusinessinformationtostakeholders.

Introduction to Business: World of Finance (PIB(F)001)Thisunit introducesfinanceandtheimportanceoffinancialinformation.Theunitlooksatthedifferentsourcesoffinanceand the factors affecting it. The topics will also includeunderstandingbudgetandbudgeting. Itwilldealwithwhyfinancialinformationisimportanttoparticularusersandthetypesofreportswhichfinancialandmanagementaccountingyieldtohelpdecisionmaking.Aspectsofcost-volume-profitanalysiswillalsobeincluded.Unitalsobuildsonbreakevenanalysisandcapitalinvestmentappraisal.Studentswillhavebetterunderstandingofthefinancialworld.

Microeconomics - Concepts and Models (PECO001)This unit investigates the choices that people, groups andsocieties face as they confront the problem of satisfyingtheir unlimitedwantswith limited resources. This unit aimsto analyse and understand the allocation, utilisation anddistribution of scarce resources that determine our wealthand well-being. It develops the knowledge, reasoning andinterpretation skills that form an important component ofunderstandingpersonal,businessandgovernmentbehaviouratthelocal,nationalandgloballevels.

Macroeconomics - The Global View (PECO002)Thedisciplineofeconomicsisoneofparticularrelevanceintheworldtoday.Itisconcernedwithdeterminingacountry’soverall levels of output, employment, inflation, growth andits external stability. The effects on changes in monetary/fiscalpolicyinshortrunandlongrunperspectiveisassessed.It assesses government objectives and how they can beachieved. Economic models are used to analyse events inmacroeconomicperspectives.Studentswillassess,evaluate,andcriticisetheeconomicperformanceofacountry.

Introduction to Business: Management and Marketing (PIB(M)002)Thisunitemphasiseshowvitalbusinessisandhowitimpactseveryaspectofourlives.Thefirstpartdealswiththebusinessenvironment, ownership and its determinants, internal andexternal factors in planning business strategies, and stepstaken in settingupabusiness. The secondpartdealswiththemanagementstyles,organisational factors,motivationaltheoriesandleadership.Thethirdpartdealswithmarketingand its importance inall thesectors. It focusesonproduct,place,promotionandprice.

Mathematics for Actuarial Studies (PMATHA004)The unit will provide students with an understanding ofthemathematicsconceptand toencourage them toapplymathematicalskillstoactuarialproblems.Thecontentofthisunitformsapartoftheunderpinningbodyofmathematicalknowledgeandskills thatwouldenablestudents topursuetertiary level Actuarial Studies. Students will learn torecognisesequencesandseries.ItwillalsoincludeSettheoryor Counting Techniqueswhichwill be applied to topics ofProbabilities.Studentswillalsounderstandtheconceptsofmapping,functionsandtheshapesofgraphs.StudentswillalsobeabletousetechniquesofMatrixtosolvesimultaneousequations.

Introduction to Mass Communication (PCOMM001)Thisunitisdesignedtointroducestudentstotheworldandindustry of mass communication. It explores the functionofmasscommunicationandroleoftoday’scommunicationpractitioners.Itcoversthesubareasofmasscommunicationfrom print media, to electronics; multimedia and socialnetworks even highlighting potential fundamental careerpath and the future of being in themass communicationand real world industry. Travel & Cuisine (PHCM001)This unit broadens students’ interest and understandingof travel and cuisine industry. It provides an overview oftourismandtravelasaserviceindustry.Itexplorestheworldof food and travel, and the development of gastronomictourism. Students are introduced to activities andeventstourists engage in. This course prepares the students torelateddegreeprogrammesatuniversity.

Introduction to Computer Science (PCSC001)This unit provides a basic introduction to a range ofComputing and IT fundamental. The unit is focussedonthe applicability of computer systems and developmentsto stimulate interest in the discipline. The unit coverscomponents andorganisationof a computer system, therelationshipbetweenhardwareandsoftware,applicationsofcomputers,databases,networking(withafocusontheInternet),graphicsandmultimedia.Withtheserationalesinview,thesyllabusisdeveloped.Asthefundamentalsfromthemodule are required to appreciate content in higherlevelsofacademicadvancement.

Introduction to Programming (PCSC002)Withtheadvancementoftechnology,newapplicationsareintroduced to automate our jobs and the tasks at hand.An insight into Basic Java programming forAndroidwillbe studied. This will enable students to explore simpleAndroid GUIs- Basic widgets and their applications.Students will learn to identify, apply and solve commonapplications of Fancy Lists using custom layouts. TheywillalsobeintroducedtoProjectPreparations,DataFlowand Flow charts, UI Designs for Mobile Platforms etc.Theunitprovidespracticalskillstoperformsimplephoneprogramming.

Social Media In the New IT World (PCSC003)Knowledge of applications and the use of different socialnetworkingsystemshavebecomeanimportantskillintoday’sworld.

This unit focuses on the basics of the impact of socialnetworkingsystemsonourdailylife.ThiscoursealsoreflectsontheuseofSocialMediainbusinesssettings.ItwilllookathowsocialnetworkshelpmarketinginBlogs,NewsReleasesand Online Video etc. It will help students understandthe basics of SAS Text Miner and the processes that areappliedintappingintoUnstructuredData.Managementandgathering information and presenting findings through theuseofFacebookinteractionwillprovideapracticallearningexperience.

Calculus (PMATH005)Calculusisprimarilyconcernedwithdevelopingthestudentsinunderstandingthepropertiesofderivativesand integralsoffunctions,andprovidingexperiencewithitsmethodsandapplications.Thecourseemphasizeamulti-representationalapproach to calculus,with concepts, results, andproblemsbeing expressed graphically, numerically, analytically, andverbally.Broadconceptsandwidelyapplicablemethodsareemphasized.Thefocusofthecourseisneithermanipulationnor memorization of an extensive taxonomy of functions,curves,theorems,orproblemtypes.Throughtheuseoftheunifyingthemesofderivatives,integrals,limits,approximation,and applications and modelling, the course becomes acohesivewholeratherthanacollectionofunrelatedtopics.

Thetopicscoveredinthiscourseincludesdifferentialcalculus,integralcalculus,calculusofvariations,differentialequations,calculusoffinitedifferencesandsolidcoordinategeometry.Afterthiscourse,studentsshouldbeverycomfortablewiththeconceptsofthederivativeandthedefinite integralandhow they are applied to a variety of daily life applicationproblem types and have an intuitive feel for continuousmathematics. Students should be able to compute simplederivatives and integrals, but theyneednotneed tobeanexpertatcalculuscomputations.

Introduction to Psychology (PPSY001)This unit is designed to stimulate the student’s curiosity,initiating them to the broad and diverse field ofpsychologicalprinciplesandhumanbehaviour.Theywillbeexposedtotheories,researchandapplications.Itwillserveas an impetus for students to think critically and enablethem to understand the scientific approach in studyinghuman attitudes, emotions and behaviour.
