Procraft synthetic webbing slings are generally manufactured fromNylon, but can also be manufactured from Polyester. The light weightof the material, combined with superior flexibility have made theseslings popular with riggers over the years. Webbing slings will notscratch or deface loads and the webbings flexibility will form a securegrip around the load to be lifted.

Slings manufactured from Nylon will stretch between 6% to 8% andshould be used if alkalis are present, while Polyester slings will stretch

approxiametly 3% and should be used where acids exist.

Synthetic webbing used to manufacture slings have a chemicallytreated surface to increase abrasion resistance, seal out moisture, andprevent grit from attacking the webbing internally. The webbing isunaffected by moisture, mildew, rot and certain chemicals.

CARE, USE & INSPECTIONWebbing slings should be inspected by the person(s) prior to anylifting operations. The inspector should seek to detect any surfacedamage to the sling and its components. Excessive surface chafe(wear), cross or longitudinal cuts in the webbing, cuts or chafe damageto the edges (caused by overloading), crystaliztion of the webbing(caused by exposure to excessive heat), local weakening or softening

of the webbing material so that surface fibres can be plucked or rubbedoff, corrosion and/or distortion of hardware - caused by acids oroverload; will result in a serious loss of strength to the sling. A sling soaffected should be taken out of service immediately.

Never try to repair a damaged webbing sling. Wesco Industries caninspect and reuse your old webbing sling hardware safely and provideproof load certification if required.

All slings should be stored in a cool, dry, and dark place away fromharmful ultra-violet rays (sunlight) and Arc Welders in operation.Continuous exposure to sunlight can affect the strength of synthetic

webbing in varying degrees, ranging from total degradation to slightdegradation. Nylon and Polyester slings shall not be used withtemperatures in excess of 194 degree F (90 degrees C).

Chemical active environments can be hazardous to the sling strength,Wesco Industries should be consulted before using slings in suchenvironments. See chart below for a guide on chemical resistance ofwebbing:

    ENVIRONMENTALCONSIDERATIONS

#Disintegrated by concentrated sulfuric acid. ## Degraded by strong alkalis at elevated temperatures.

When slings are used in a basket hitch and suspended from one hooksling angles will directly affect the rated capacity of any slings. Thesling to load angle is the angle between the horizontal top of the loaand the leg of the sling. As the sling to load angledecrease, so doesthe safe capacity of the sling. Refer to the charts below:

Once sling has been inspected, determine the weight of the load, typeof load to be lifted and the sling angle that is to be used. Make sure thathe sling will be protected from cuts by sharp edges, sharp corners anabrasive surfaces.

NEVER EXCEED THE WORKING LOAD LIMIT OF THE SLING

Angles less than 45 degrees are not reccomended and those below30 degrees should be avoided whenever possible.
