1/7 Procedure to replace the Korg T3 backlight 1 - Disconnect the T3 from mains plug. Procedure to replace the Korg T3 backlight

1 - Disconnect the T3 from mains plug. The backlight is powered by a high voltage (270V) which can be quite dangerous and even deadly. 2 - If you don’t have experience in working with high voltage, please hire a qualified service technician. The operation of replacing the backlight is quite easy but requires some attention. 3 - Place the keyboard upside down, taking care about the pitchbend lever:

5 - Disconnect CN19A and CN6A from the motherboard then CN7:

6 - Disconnect CN1A by pulling the black clip, then CN8A and CN9A:

7 - Disconnect CN4A and CN5A:

8 - Back away the tie raps and the 3 ribbon cables:

9 - Unscrew the motherboard (4 screws on rear side + 2 inside):

10 - Remove the motherboard, you should see CN2A:

11 - Disconnect CN2A by pulling the black clip:

12 - Disconnect CN3B from the power supply (coming from the motherboard):

and remove completely the motherboard. From now, each screw or cable clip removed must be put back on its place once the board or element has been removed. Otherwise, they must be noted precisely on a paper, with drawings if necessary, in order to be able to proceed correctly for the reassembling phase. 13 - Remove the memory board, 3 screws:

14 - Remove the protective “shield screen” above the power supply (2 screws, to be put back on their place, once the screen removed):

15 - Remove the “aftertouch” board, by pinching the clips with a clamp:

16 - Disconnect:

- CN10B, to the sound board - CN14, CN15, to/from mains part - CN12A, to the floppy drive - CN13A, to the Display board

then remove the power supply (6 scews, replaced where they come from):

17 - Unscrew the shield screws at rear side only:

18 - Handle the wires up and unscrew the display board (below the shield screen):

19 - Use a thin metal ruler that you glide between the printed circuit board (PCB) and the backlight, in order to peel off the backlight from the pcb:

20 - Unsolder the old backlight and replace it by the new one, by pulling on it:

21 - Adhesive tape can be used to fix the new backlight onto the pcb:

22 - Go back through all the operations from number 22 to number 3 in the reverse order. It is important to perform all the steps calmly and meticulously because a lot of screws are used, with different types, and you can be faced with the problem of having some screws left at the end of the operation.
