Let’s look at some numbers: An estimated 190,120,055 gallons of oil have

leaked into the Gulf of Mexico. Oil is sold in barrels. There are 42 gallons of oil

per barrel. How many barrels of oil have leaked into the

Gulf of Mexico?

________about 4.5 million barrels_______________

What do we get from oil?

Page 5: Problems & Solutions

Let’s talk about gasoline: For every barrel of oil (42 gallons), we can get

19.5 gallons of gasoline. From our calculation of __________ barrels of oil

in the Gulf of Mexico, how many gallons of gas could have been produced?

Let’s talk about gasoline: If 19.5 gallons of gas can be made from 1

barrel (42 gal), what % of each barrel can be made into gas?
