I know all staff have been very busy getting everything finalised for the end of term, and are looking forward to planning for Term 2, after they have spent some time with their own families over the break. Congratulations Archie and Sophia This week I had the pleasure of two Kindergarten students visiting me to share their great writing, based on a book read in class about Easter. Both Archie and Sophia (and Miss Tamsett) were so proud of their great work. It is such a pleasure to see how far some of our youngest students have come in their first 10 weeks at school. Setting and Achieving Maths Goals This year, teachers are working with students in setting goals in the classroom. Recently from Mrs Sullivan’s class, I was visited by Ella Rose, Annabelle, Eli, Sebastian and Jake, who proudly spoke about their Maths goals, explained how they achieved them and what their next goal was in Mathematics. The confidence of these students as they shared their knowledge and their goals was amazing. Congratulations to all the students, Mrs Sullivan and Mrs Saddington. Cooler Classroom Update Yesterday, Mrs Xenos (THS Principal) and I met with a large group of people from various companies, as well as Department of Education Representatives, to discuss the Cooler Classroom Project. The project will move to tender, and then the installation of the project can go ahead once the tender process has closed and been accepted. The entire site (Primary, High and TAFE) will need to have the electrical upgrade and installation of the hardware before it can be operational. This will mean some disruption to classrooms as the hardware is installed. More information about which classes will be affected and when, will come out to parents and carers once we know the timeframe for the installation. It was very exciting to see the next phase is about to begin.

Principals Report

The end of Term 1…wow, that has come in a rush! I know all staff have been very busy getting everything finalised

for the end of term, and are looking forward to planning for Term 2, after they have spent some time with their

own families over the break.

Congratulations Archie and Sophia

This week I had the pleasure of two Kindergarten students visiting me to share their

great writing, based on a book read in class about Easter. Both Archie and Sophia

(and Miss Tamsett) were so proud of their great work. It is such a pleasure to see

how far some of our youngest students have come in their first 10 weeks at school.

Setting and Achieving Maths Goals

This year, teachers are working with students in setting goals in the classroom. Recently

from Mrs Sullivan’s class, I was visited by Ella Rose, Annabelle, Eli, Sebastian and Jake,

who proudly spoke about their Maths goals, explained how they achieved them and

what their next goal was in Mathematics.

The confidence of these students as they shared their knowledge and their goals was

amazing. Congratulations to all the students, Mrs Sullivan and Mrs Saddington.

Cooler Classroom Update

Yesterday, Mrs Xenos (THS Principal) and I met with a large group of people from various companies, as well as

Department of Education Representatives, to discuss the Cooler Classroom Project.

The project will move to tender, and then the installation of the project can go ahead once the tender process has

closed and been accepted. The entire site (Primary, High and TAFE) will need to have the electrical upgrade and

installation of the hardware before it can be operational. This will mean some disruption to classrooms as the

hardware is installed. More information about which classes will be affected and when, will come out to parents

and carers once we know the timeframe for the installation. It was very exciting to see the next phase is about to

begin.

Flooding at Keel Street

I am attaching some recent photos of our flooded area at the Keel Street gate. Whilst the water has receded

slightly, the oval, bike racks and path are still under water.

I have been in extensive talks with the Director of Assets Management and WH&S Representatives from the

Department of Education since the flooding, who have also visited the school on a number of occasions to see the

damage. At this point in time we are awaiting their input and expertise as to how the situation can be rectified. The

area has been fenced off until a solution can be reached or the water level drops.

I would like to thank parents and carers for their understanding in realising this is a situation beyond our control

and reassure you we are working hard to rectify it. We will continue to keep you informed of any changes to the

current water levels and when Keel Street gate can re-open.

Easter Hat Parade

The Easter Hat Parade was held today! Thank you to Michele Pearson and the Special Events team who did such a

great job organising the events for the day. Next term we will be including the photos from this great day. It was a

lovely way to end the term.

Holidays

I just want to wish everyone a wonderful Easter break and a fantastic autumn holiday. The current situation in

Brisbane, with the 3-day lockdown and the raft of restrictions (especially for schools) reinforces the need to stay

diligent and COVID safe.

Please take extra care over the holidays, especially if you are travelling. The Term 2 Staff Development Day (pupil

free day) is on Monday 19th April, with all students due to return to school on TUESDAY 20th APRIL.

Have a wonderful 2 weeks and enjoy making memories with your family and friends.

Year 6 Leadership Day 2021

Last Friday (26th March), all of year 6 attended a Leadership Training Day organised by Mr Hopper and

Miss Rowlands. This day was based around our school values and what is involved when being a leader at

Tomaree Public School. We played a range of team work activities and looked at a number of inspirational

leaders across our world and the qualities they hold.

Year 6 spoke about the important role that ToPS Leaders play in our school, particularly for their younger

peers and brainstormed activities that they would like to coordinate in the playground and that their

peers would enjoy participating in. ToPS is one of the amazing programs that is run at our school and

supports so many of our students, both Year 6 leaders and their peers. It promotes a sense of belonging

while building leadership and problem-solving skills.

ToPS will be up and running Week 1 of Term 2.

Activities include: canteen helpers, quite play with colouring and toys, sandpit activities, hoola hoops and

the extremely popular recess disco!

End of Term

I have enjoyed working with the Defence students during Term One, especially getting to know those new

to our school this year.

Please continue to inform me if there are any changes to your family’s work circumstances

(deployment/exercise/courses).

Stay safe and enjoy the holiday break. I look forward to catching up with everyone next term.

Kind regards,

Debbie Hersant, Defence School Mentor

For the past two weeks most Yr3 have attended “Swim Scheme” at Tomaree Aquatic Centre.

Although we have battled with the weather, on the days we were able to attend all students were

respectful and responsible. Most importantly they have all shown personal best, enthusiasm and

improvement. Mrs Zimmerman and I were so proud of each and every one of them and how much

progress they all made. Well done Year 3.

Mrs Sullivan.
